First Midwife Appt!

We had our first midwife appt today. We had to have it fairly early to get everything done for the genetic testing. I forgot how long the first appt is. SO MANY QUESTIONS. I had to get a swap for Chlamydia and gonorrhea so they did a pap too. Oh so fun. The best part was the student midwife did the pap and couldn't find my cervix. Not only is it retroverted but it's also off to the side. DH 'got' to stay in the room for the pap. Good times. I need to go to the lab and give like 40 liters of blood, but I need to wait until I have to pee again as I guess I'm giving urine too. LOL. Oh, and they faxed off the requisition for my U/S so the lab will call me with a date soon. She asked for it between Oct 23-26 so that's soon!!!!! YAY!

All in all a good appt. She says she doesn't need to see me again for 7 weeks. LOL...so late November.

Oh, my blood pressure was seriously low (as usual). The big number was even under 100. LOL.

They gave me the VBAC pamphlet...so all systems are go for that if baby co-operates (DD was breech).

I just got back from the lab. 7 vials of blood and 1 cup of pee later. I feel like a human pin cushion. Please tell me that's done for a while. It is, right? LOL

sounds like it went well! I hate how many tubes of blood they take at the first appointment. I have enough trouble keeping my iron up during pregnancy even without their "help"

I don't know how many vials they took from me. If I watch what they are doing, I start not feeling so well! I did notice her changing it a few times though. I also get low iron while pregnant, I always feel much better after they put me on supplements.

I think just at the beginning and when they do the GD thing. I HATE getting so much blood taken, I always feel woozy. Glad you had a good appointment!

Yes, I think the worse is over for that...although last time I had a scheduled c-section so I had to have a bunch of blood work done then too. Sad

I think I might not do the GD test. We'll see. It's optional for us. I did it last time and had no problems.

So I've been cramping a bit today. Sort of a dull ache. Likely just from them bugging my cervix. They said I might have spotting from the cervix irritation. Sigh. I hope it stops soon. I was happy we still had turkey leftovers for dinner as it was fast and easy!

I want to see if I can refuse it as well. I really don't see myself having issues with that, plus I don't like doing it and don't know when I would have time. I have a new ob that is a more progressive type female one so hopefully she will be down with stuff like that.

When I was pg the first time my midwife said I could not do it at all...but if I did it and failed the 1 hour then I HAD to do the 3 hour...no choice. I was a scardy cat first time pregnant woman so I had it.

Well that sounds like a not so fun appointment. Too much poking and proding. Hopefully your next one is more exciting!! And geez 7 vials? I'm scared now. I go for the chlamydia/gonorrhea/blood taking next week. The most blood I've ever had taken was 4 vials and I nearly passed out. I denied all genetic testing...do they still take that much?

I got the standard prenatal screening for Canada which was the 7 vials. The genetic testing is separate. I also opted for the HIV testing and stuff too. It's all free so why not? The Chlamydia/Gonorrhea was a vaginal swab. Ya, I feel a bit violated today. ha ha!

Yay for first appointment! Boo for all the tests. I want to skip all the swabs this time. They were done such a short time ago that I don't want to bother with it again. Ugh not looking forward to 7 vials of blood though!

The Ultrasound people just called. I'm going in at 12:30pm on Oct 25th. I could have had it as early as the 23rd but the later you go the better picture/dating they get!
