I have a 2000 VW Jetta. Not the newest or most luxurious car but I love it (and it's paid for!). Here's a photo of it a few years ago. Smile

I am all about paid for vehicles. Smile Both of ours are but neither are very new. I don't mind either.

I'll definitely share a pic later.

I love the scenery in the background of your pic. Gorgeous!

Those are the Rocky Mountains! DH's daughter used to live on the other side of them...so this was one of our trips back from dropping her off. Fun times. Beautiful scenery but you sort of get used to it. I think this was my car's maiden voyage on that trip.

Our other vehicle is a 1992 Ford F150. We mainly have it as a secondary vehicle and for towing our trailer. I've done the HUGE vehicle loan thing and it's just not worth it for me right now.

I completely hear all of you on the hating car payments!! We paid for both of our vehicles with cash. We bought our van a little over a year ago (it's a 2001). Our other car we bought 3 years ago (a 95 Toyota Camry).

In my mind I just moved to wherever that pic was taken, Heather! Dirol

Laurie, if I had a big van like that, I would be able to justify having all the kids I want!!

That's my plan!! LOL, It would be "wasteful" to drive the van half empty all the time!!!! Smile

Wow! You need to have a van that size with your family size! We are going to have 'issues' fitting everyone once we have #2. We technically have 5 seat belts but who is going to squeeze between the kids in the back? Not me! When DSD isn't here, we should be good to go though. LOL

Yeah, we really do need it. It's the carseats that make things a tight fit in anything smaller. We took the back bench out, otherwise there is virtually NO cargo space. So, basically what we have is a HUGE amount of cargo space with the seat out, and 3 benches. My 8 year old still uses a booster under bottom. My 4 and 5 year olds are in in MASSIVE seats with 5 point harnesses. My 2 and 1 year old are rear facing in Britax roundabouts. I have one massive seat and one rear facing in the first row (and really not much space inbetween). The next row just has my 2 year old facing rear next to the window. Two other people could squeeze next to her (or one big carseat). In the back row is another massive seat and the smaller booster. A person could sit back there, but not another carseat. So, yeah, we need it!

We have a 2004 Ford Explorer that we bought used a few years ago. It had a crack in a panel on the back when we purchased it. We later started to notice that lots of Explorers with this back door design have the same crack. It must have been a design flaw in models made around that time. So now when we're out and see one DH and I try to beat each other to say "crack back". Sort of like saying "punch bug" when you see a VW bug. Blum 3

and a picture of the back panel...

Laurie - I hear ya. We have a RF Britax Marathon in our Jetta. It HAS to be behind the passenger seat for the space. We might have to turn DD FF when #2 comes so she can be behind the driver. I'll see. She'll be almost 3.5 years old by then but I'm still scared of FF! LOL, right? We had problems fitting an adult in the passenger seat in front of the infant seat last time, so I'm not sure what we'll do this time. I might need to research infant seats that are slimmer. Ours is a Graco.

Lynn - I love explorers. I always wanted one. That's crazy about the crack! Have you checked if Ford did a recall on that panel? Seems odd if lots are getting it.

Yeah we really like ours. Smile

I am lazy and it didn't bother me that much so I never checked. I have seen quite a few though with a silver band that was a few inches wider than the Ford symbol and it looked like an add on. So I suspect that is how they dealt with it and I'd rather just have the crack. It's purely cosmetic so not a big deal for me.

Lynn - It looks like the recalls on that year are lighting and glass related. Smile

Jenny - I've seen those Routan's around town. How do you like it? I'm a bit of a VW girl. Smile

lol I don't already have a picture of my car, and you really don't want to see it, its a 2003 Cavalier, and I mashed up the front driver side light area, and I am missing hubcaps... The mashed up bit I wish were fixed but I could care less about the hubcaps... I also have a pretty Huffy Cruiser bike, that has a silver basket on the front and a child seat on the back. I love it.

Wow, Laurie, am I ever jealous of your van! We drive a freestar and I wish we had went the 15 passenger van route. As it stands, it's going to be a tight squeeze with all our car seats. If this babe happened to be twins (please God no...), we'd need a new vehicle.

Finally figured it out. I have an 08 Subaru WRX. It's my dream car that we bought brand spanking new when I graduated college. This pic is old...it has custom wheels on it now but you get the idea. I'm going to have to sell it before this baby comes because it would NEVER fit 3 car seats...I will definitely cry.

OOO I saw a new combi carseat they say will fit 3 across in smaller cars Amazon.com: Combi Cocorro Lightweight Convertible Car Seat, Licorice: Baby .Maybe a combination of what you have plus this would work out, I wouldnt ant to sell such a pretty car especially because it is your dream car.

Also, I think I maybe a terrible mom. My kid has been in a backless booster for almost two years. We had him in the high back (with the 5 point, then with the adult belt) He kept getting out of it and trying to roam around the car, so we got a new 5 point that we had trouble getting undone, PPPFFFTTTT DS had no trouble, so we let him pick out a booster, and explained that he had to sit in it or he wouldn't be leaving the house ever. That did the trick. I don't even remember wearing seatbelts as a kid (with 7 kids in a station wagon) we never died...

The Diono Radians are quite narrow too and well known to fit three across.

I'll have to scope out those measurements when I get back from vacation! It's a very narrow car though so I'll be surprised. Plus the middle seat is raised so it would be tricky. But definitely worth checking out! Thanks girls Smile

Heather I LOVE my Routan. It came with all the bells and whistles. Leather, heated seats, dvd, storage everywhere! Love the digital components in the console and al the lights are LED's and are super bright plus i love that the sliding doors and the rear windows all have built in sunshades. Also the fold flat seating is super easy for us and comes in handy

Sigh. I think I want one...but not the loan. LOL. My Jetta has heated leather seats too but the heater is broken on the driver's side. It's ok though, we park in a garage and it's not super cold around here so it's not that big of a deal. Worse case, I made DH drive, then I can use the heated passenger seat! LOL

I didn't know they had seats that fold flat...that's great!!! Hummmm....I need to win the lottery!

I was going to suggest the Radians too. I believe they are the narrowest on the market. We are planning on buying two Radians and then using the infant seat for the baby so we don't need a new car. the seats we currently have I love but they won't fit a third because they are so wide!

I think I might go that route so I can cram our now-youngest into the back row with the big kids (who will both be in boosters by that point). Otherwise we'll have absolutely no car-seat-free space.

What a great thread!!

I don't have pictures right now either, but we have 2 volvos. An '06 XC90 (SUV) and a '98 XC70 (Wagon). I love love both of them, but now I wish we had gotten a minivan instead of the SUV. It's really hard to get everyone in and out of. Oh how I want an automatic sliding door Smile

We've looked at getting an XC90. Have you had any issues with your Volvos? I've heard they are pretty expensive to repair but oh so pretty!

What I need is a car seat that is less tall so when it's RF it takes up less room in the back seat. Our Britax Marathon 65 works behind the passenger seat enabling us to sit in front of it, but it might not work behind the driver's seat. We might have to turn DD FF and that sort of scares me. I know she'll be 3.5 but still! Also, when we had the infant seat behind the passenger seat an adult couldn't comfortably sit in front. Sad I will need to research seats one day. Once I'm 'out' I'll talk to the local car seat techs and see what they say.

We've never had any major issues. They are expensive to fix, but that doesn't happen very often. The oil changes are ridiculous on the xc90 because it takes so much oil. DH is fairly handy and has managed to start changing the oil himself and has done a few repairs on the wagon. The things you can learn from youtube are amazing Smile But I am a volvo fan. It's funny because I've always wanted one ever since I was litte (weird right?) and I turned DH into a volvo fan too.

I'm not sure right now...I'll measure her later. I think she WAS 34" but is probably taller now. She is mostly legs though...I have a short torso and long legs and it look like she got it too!
