Has anyone done a 24 hr urinalysis before?

Wondering if anyone else has had to do this before? They told me that I have to collect ALL of my pee into this jug and if I miss any I hve to dump it out and start over. BUT what they didnt tell me is what I am to do if I FILL the jug before my 24 hrs is up??? I only have about maybe 1 or 2 more times of having ot pee before the jug is full and I have 5 more hours!

Oh no! I've never done it so have no idea really. It would seem like it's important to collect all output in the time period though. Got any empty milk jugs you can wash out?

IDK, hope someone can help. :/

I have, not for pregnancy though.

They didn't mention anything about having to fill the jug, just collect all the pee.

I thought it was so gross, lol! and I'm not easily grossed out.

I've never done it, but I would just collect any "extra" in a different container I guess???

I remember being at the lab once and someone came in to request another jug because they were going to be more than full. I'd collect the extra urine in another washed container. Or see if you can get another sterile one.

I called and after being passed through multple people on the phone they wanted me to "run back to the hosptial and grab another one" because if I missed ANY I had to start over. new dilemma: I had to pee THEN. not after an hr+ drive there and back... (where I live you don't just run into the hospital....it's 30 mins away IF there is no traffic etc (and this was prime school bus time) so after explaining I did not have the ability at the moment to jsut drop in... they suggested that I could go to the dr office and pick one up . (the dr office that is 2 streets over from the hospital) again. this didnt work. I had a deadline for gettng DS dropped off at daycare and getting my sub plans to school and I had to PEE. So I sat on facebook and talked with a friend who is a nurse at a dr office here in town ( 5 mins away) to see if they had any jugs at their office. She said they didnt but the new local diagnostic center should- as someone contacted them the toher day for one. SO I used a ziploc bag to collect in and then called them when they opened (at 8--granted my jug was ful at 5am) and thankfully they had them there so I didnt have to make the drive AGAIN to the hospital. Im hoping that everything comes out ok bc if not Im afraid they will induce me now--and Im not ready. The nurse at the diagnostic center said that her daughter had the same problem and they took her baby at 36 weeks.... which I hit today. prayers for good results!

on another note my principal is doing my end of year eval toniht so if Im there tomorrow we can meet and that be done with. so Ill know if Im tenured!

Yikes! So crazy strict. Why they think people can just "come on down to the hospital" at a moments notice is beyond me. Like, we don't have lives, we just sit around and pee in a jug for 24 hours with nothing else to do.

Wow! I would have just peed in a clean cup and then gone to get a new bucket. I mean, really, don't you pee in a cup before you dump it into the big container anyways?

Induce at 36 weeks? really? That's like recipe for a preemie, is it not? I would hope they'd try to control the pre-e first before they take the baby. Sad

Heather the issue was it has to be refrigerated..... so I ended up just using a ziploc bag until I got a new jug. was highly irriated though! as for inducing, I think it depends on how bad it is--the nurse yesterday said they wouldnt induce yet... but at the same time I know people that HAVE been induced.... she also said If I start labor at this point they won't stop it.(which is the same as my old ob's office) . I have been contracting a lot more last night and today too... so I've startd tracking it.

how frustrating!

I hope you don't have to be induced, unless absolutely neccessary.

That sounds like it was a huge pain in the butt! I feel your pain cause we live 1 1/2hrs away from our hospital so it is not an easy ordeal! I hope you have good results and that little one stays put for a little longer!

Boo, I am sorry you had this issue. You probably could have gotten one from any lab that was closer to you and not had the hour plus drive. I tried to make sure I always gave people two jugs, we had one person go through four once (BWAHHH!)

They will control it till its harmful to the mama or baby comes on their own. If there are seizures or other neurological problems they have to get baby out. It can also mess up your heart so not something to be taken lightly. It is all about balancing babies benefits of cooking with the risks it puts mom in.

So I got a new jug from the lab that is 5 mins from me rather than making the drive to the hospital to get one... went in for hte blood work and to drop off the collection... and the birthing center messed up my lab paperwork. so it took 10 times as long bc a dr didnt sign the papers before they gave it to me. gRR. today has been extremely frustrating!

Oh, I totally get that...but so far she seems ok. I would definitely hope they'd try to calm things down first.
