I had my first "official" midwife appointment.

Well, I had my first appointment yesterday. I had to fill out a TON of paperwork, and then I met with the midwife and we chatted and she did a pelvic exam and got out the doppler. The birth center has only been in business for about a year and a half, and they were super excited to have me back with another baby because apparently I am the first "repeat" customer. Smile Anyway, when she got out the doppler I knew she probably wouldn't find the HB... no one has ever found it (but myself) prior to about 13 weeks. So, yeah, she searched around for quite awhile (I didn't want to tell her that she was moving it around too high... afterall no midwife wants the patient telling them what to do, lol... even though I know my body!). I could tell she was getting nervous. Anyway, she had a vaginal probe. So, she got that out, she did a pelvic exam and said that, yes, my uterus was tilted WAY to the back, and she immediately found the HB with the vaginal probe. A nice strong HB chugging along at 165 bpm! Smile

Oh, and since my kids go with me to all my appointments, I told them yesterday just before we left that we were going to check on our new baby. They were all SO EXCITED!!!! Smile They said that they think it would be nice if Aidan has a brother, but that they really don't care if it's a boy or a girl. Smile

ETA: Oh, and I forgot to mention that I got weighed as well. Yippy, I'm up 11 pounds already. Yep, right on track to gain my "typical" 12-15 pounds in the first trimester!!

HA HA, I totally LOL'ed at this statement. I was the same way with my midwife last PG....I just had to bite my tongue and let her search. YAY for a finding the HB and for being the first repeat customer. Do you get some sort of plaque? Blum 3

Aweeee, I'm glad the kids were so excited! We haven't told DD yet but I'm not sure how much she'll get the concept. She did see a picture of me pg with her on the weekend and was interested in it.

Yay for good a good appointment! I'm sure it would be nice for Aidan to get a brother. Smile

That is one of the reasons I can totally be excited about having another little boy even though I do have a preference for a girl. I'm sure the lone sibling will be fine but I figure it can also be tough to be the only boy or girl in a bunch of siblings. I was in the majority though as I'm the oldest of 4, 3 girls and the baby a boy so what do I know? I should talk to my brother to get a real perspective. Wink

Well, my preference is definitely boy with this pregnancy, because I would like Aidan to have a brother, and this is likely our last. Honestly though, as far as raising girls or boys go - so far I don't have a preference. Aidan is definitely my most laid back child. I'm not sure if it's because he's a boy, or if that's just his personality. I can already tell that he is much more go, go, go than my girls are. The girls can sit at the table and do crafts for an hour or two. I don't see Aidan really ever doing that. He's always moving. Smile So perhaps more drama with the girls, and more constant moving and getting into stuff with the boys???

Anyway, I have a friend who has 5 girls and 3 boys. Her children range in age from young 20's down to 4. She says that boys are WAY easier to raise than girls!!!! Smile
