    Default Insurance question

I'm trying to figure out what to take out in Health spending for the delivery and OB, but I don't remember my grand total from DS.

I'm thinking it was decently expensive, maybe $3000 at least out of pocket.

We have BCBS with a standard 80/20 and $200 deductible.

Any ideas? Doesn't need to be accurate, but do you remember roughly what you spent with your last child on hospital costs?

I really don't remember. We have an extremely high deductible on ours because we are self employed and it brings the premium down. We have also changed plans since DD, but we now have a HSA, which is great! My hospital too will give a 50% discount if you pay the whole bill up front. A lot of places will do that if you just ask.

My insurance sent us sample costs based on different situations. It said for pregnancy to plan on $1400 after insurance for hospital, doctor, medications, and ultrasounds.

We have 80/20 and $200 as well so it should be pretty similar.

Well that's not TOO bad. I'd have a hard time coming up with that money right now though. Do people use credit cards or do they go on some sort of payment plan for this sort of thing?

We have an HSA. You pick an amount for the year and it goes into an account for you. Then the total gets divided by your paychecks and you get a little deducted every week. But you have access to the full amount on Jan 1. So we put $2500 in and we can spend it all now, it just keeps deducting out if your pay all year. Ours comes to roughly $40/week. And I never have to worry about unexpected medical bills unless we go over $2500. It's nice.

That isn't so bad. It's nice to have that option to set a bit aside like that.

I love our HSA. When I had my bleeding episode back at 9 weeks and I went to the ER, we got a bill for $1400. I called the hospital to pay at once and they knocked it down to $700 and I paid it all out of our HSA.
