So, Husband wakes me up bright and early Saturday to go get the rent paid (we had gotten a note that said residents of our complex would be eligible for a rent discount next month if we paid by 5 pm on the first). I go out and the weather in the morning was really quite lovely it had rained the smallest bit and smelled lovely and it was pretty warm for December 1st (no coat or jacket!), I took DHs SUV, which we haven't had but 6 months (its a used one though). I take the road out of our "town" (which is a town with the main city around us on all sides) to go to the bank. The road I usually take it a little wind-y but it goes through some woods and is so pretty I cant resist, but that also means its a bit twisty, and like I said it had rained a bit and the road was wet. I was aware of the danger I was going 15 under the speed limit so I was only going 20 mph... but the danged car still managed to hydroplane (or whatever) and I wound up going nearly 180 to the right, then managed to get it going back round the other way and ran into the ditch. And like all good ditches it was higher on the other side so I messed up the front bumper (not bad IMO because on the other side of the street I nearly hit the lamp post). I hit my head, but not too bad I wasn't going too terribly fast at that point. DH is beyond mad at me and asking why I hadn't just driven my car (was planning to stop by the store and his SUV holds more groceries without hitting my head on my trunk 5 times). Baby seems fine, still feel wriggles, and I didn't have any bleeding or cramps, but as I didn't hit the steering wheel or anything I didn't expect to. Also, DS wasn't in the car, Thank God.
Then had to fight with husband about going out with mom for her birthday dinner that afternoon. Went, that was fine, I love my mom and sisters to bits so there is never a bad time.
I guess today wasn't so bad, but messing up the car kinda messed up the rest of the weekend....
Sorry for the long rant.
Yikes! Sorry for the poopy weekends ladies!
Mary - I'm sorry DH got so upset. I mean, like it already wasn't traumatic enough for you! Did you need a tow truck to get the SUV out? I'm glad you're ok!!!
Leah - A scratch...seriously? WOW! You must have a nice vehicle! Our truck is a 1993 and our car is a 2000....there be a FEW scratches on both of them already. We care about our cars, but WOW!!!
No need for a tow, it wasn't a terribly deep ditch and the SUV is a 99 Durango, so it was big enough to not get stuck, and while the road was slick the dirt was pretty dry. I was pretty mad at myself, so I can't really blame him. I also forgot to add that after I came home (just drove back home, I didn't want to drive the monster anymore) I drove my car to the bank, and went to pay the rent, turns out it was a DRAWING to win 100 off of next months rent, I am beyond annoyed with it now, because had I known, I wouldn't have even been going out. I think there are close to 250 units, and that's if they only do our towns in it if they include the complexes they have in the city PFFFT not a chance of winning.
Sandra- they sell small things of paint at the auto parts store if you have a basic color, cover the scratch right up.
Ugh, that sucks... I'm sorry... I'm so glad you seem okay though!! Honestly, what's a bumper anyway. It is hard not to overreact in the moment though. I'm sure there is a part of your DH that does realize it's "just a bumper." But it really is human nature to freak out when you hear news like that.
DH and I have said over and over again how we are very glad that we drive older vehicles when it comes to "beauty." Quite honestly, there is definitely a temptation to get worked up about "stuff" and I know if we drove newer vehicles I probably would get worked up about scratches and dents. Thankfully, our vehicles always have plenty when we buy them. I actually prefer to buy them that way because it lowers the price on a car that can still have a very good engine!!
It's only a drawing!!! AHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow... yeah, that's not cool!
Ugh, I HATE car accidents. Our car is a 2011 Chevy Traverse and I've already banged it up twice. Then DH got rear ended this fall too so we had over $9,000 worth of repairs to do - covered by insurance, thankfully. The nice things was the rear end accident was over the same spot that I backed in to a pole hahaha, so one of my accidents got fixed up too. LOL.
So sorry that your DH flipped out. I hope he was still concerned for you and baby. I got in a car accident at 38 weeks pregnant with DD, and totaled our car. I was SO nervous to call DH and tell him. But he was just worried about me, thankfully.
Men and their vehicles
Ugh car accidents are the worst. So sorry you had such a bad weekend *hugs*
Leah: my DH is the same way. His truck is 8 years old and looks brand new and he freaks if he sees the tiniest imperfection. I'm fairly anal about my car too but not nearly as bad. I mean, I get bummed if I see it but what's done is done so why get so upset??
