Lets talk names

We can only agree on one girls name - Hannah - but I don't know if that will be the name we go with.

For boys, we agree are far more names. Jacob, Ryan and Zachary are our top 3, with Andrew and Tyler in the mix as well.

Other names that we agree on are Kaitlyn, Mason, Matthew, Natalie and Nicholas but we really do not want to use the name initial or similar initial (Connor/Kaitlyn) twice.

What do you guys have picked out?

I like lots of your choices!

We never decide until baby is born.
Our top girls name is Ainsley, but I think we're slightly worried since it doesn't start with an "E" that she will feel left out! We have liked Ainsley since 2007 after our first DD was born.
Other girl names we have considered are Eve, and Emily.

Boys is a lot tougher. DH has been wanting to use Maverick for a middle name FOREVER and I never let him Smile I might have to give in this time! After all, it is only a middle name. For first names we will likely do Ethan or Ezra. DH likes Ethan and I am not so hot on it....

I hope it is a girl so we don't have to argue about boy names!

DH likes Mason. I like the name, but I hate it with our last name!

I like Jack or Elizabeth. We haven't even discussed girl names yet. I won't give much thought until we find out what we are having. No sense it getting in a fight over something that we may not event need to use. Although he DH did pick out DS first and middle name (I agreed with them). I gave DD her first name and DH gave her her middle name. I have a feeling with his one if it is a boy he will name it Mason even though I am deadset against it!

The kids want to name the baby a silly name, why I don't know! They always suggest things that aren't even names!

I like your name choices too Rachel!!!!

I hear ya on the C/K names. My daughter is Kennedy and our current leading girl name is Cora. The ladies here say they sound good together but I'm still on the fence about how similar C names are to K names. All K names are definitely out since we have Kennedy.

Our boy name is fairly decided Marshall Lewis is our boy name. Lewis was DH's dad's name and it has already been used in the family as a first name so we decided to honour him by using it for a middle name. DH's dad passed away when DH was 19...a massive heart attack in front of my poor DH. Sad

When we were pg with DD we loved the girl names Olivia and Sophia but they are now way too popular so they are out. I tend to lean away from anything top 100.

What do you ladies think of this...because we are thinking Cora for a girl...DH doesn't want any middle names that start with a vowel. He thinks the ending A in Cora make it not go with middle names starting in vowels. I get what he's saying but I don't think you can say that about EVERY middle name. For example, Cora Elizabeth sounds good, doesn't it?

Hummmm.....the name debate rages on!

I can see what your DH is saying about the vowel middle names, but I agree, not with ALL vowel names. Cora Elizabeth is nice. I think you'd just want to stay away from middle names starting with "A".

Yes, good call. Like Cora Adele sounds silly. Blum 3

Oh, I forgot to say, DD's catch all name for babies and dolls right now is Cee Cee. OMG so cute! I guess Cora's nickname could be Cee Cee. Blum 3

We have a girl's name picked out. But no middle name. Especially since we have the issue of not naming after living, and the middle names we would want to use from deceased on one side are the names of immediate living family on the other side. My SIL just named her son's middle name after DH's grandfather, so I'm happy since we couldn't have used it, and I don't like it anyways. We have NO boys names. And NO list. And I hate them all! So that's that. I pretty much refuse to even entertain boy's names until we would find out - and we are staying team green. Unless one comes to me in a dream or something. And all E names for boys are out since all 4 of my nephews on DH's side are E names - a little overdone! Luckily, if it's a boy, we don't do the naming until the 8th day after the baby is born, so we'd have a little time to figure something out.

Heather - my DD's name is Saphira. We loved it because it's not the ridiculously popular Sophia, instead it is unique, but still sounds enough like a normal beautiful name vs. something that is really "unique". I'm talking to you Hashtag's parents. And I agree about the middle name starting with a vowel. One middle name we came up with for a girl starts with an E, and the first ends in A - and I do have a bit of trouble with the pronunciation of the two. So I do agree with your DH on that one.

Rachel - I think Hannah is timeless and beautiful and simple. It's my niece's name.

Sandra - we entertained Ezra briefly for our first. But I still wasn't set on it. Then DH's best friend used it a couple months later, which I was happy about since it solidified in my mind that it wasn't right for us. And my SIL just named her son Ethan - which I guessed she would months before, I'm proud of that guess. But E names are completely out for us for the same reason they are desired by you! All our nephews on DH's side. It's just too much and I already don't think my FIL can keep them straight!

LOL! I know, that's a BIT much!

Oh, I forgot to say, I have a friend with a son named Ezra. He's 5 now. I thought it was crazy at first but now I'm pretty used to it and it doesn't bother me. Smile

I already mix my kids names up. I don't even want to imagine what it would be like if we had Ella and Eli, Emerson and Emily. BAH HA HA! Name buddies.

The E's were not intentional at all at first, but now I feel like we can't turn back!

Love everyone's name choices Smile

Heather: ITA that it doesn't apply to all vowel names, just A ones that start with the same sound (which is most that say "aah"). I seriously don't think Cora and Kennedy are too close. It would only be annoying to me personally if you changed Cora to be spelled with a K. I have nothing against names with same first letters (we almost did this with my two) except when the normal spelling of a name is changed to fit the trend.

We haven't discussed names at length yet; DH needs to know gender first  We had a hard time naming out DS (Dane) and had Brody, Gavin, Caleb, Corbin, and Dax in the running. DH is in love with Corbin so we might end up using that if its a boy. It isn't my top favorite but if you knew how hard it was for us to agree last time you'd understand why I'll settle! For a girl we'll be starting from scratch. Her middle name will be Jade (which is my MN too) unless we decided to use it as a first name.

Ya, I'm not really into the whole "change the spelling all messed up so I seem unique". It just causes more problems for the poor kid in the long run.

My maiden last name was pretty normal, boring, easy to spell. So is my first name. I went to university with a lot of international students. The profs would struggle at roll call and then I could see them breath a sigh of relief when they came to my name. LOL. Easy to read, easy to spell, BUT Unique, those are my goals!

I love everyone's names so far. I think middle names should go with the first name, compliment it, and not end the same. So as far as us its been a battle. We could agree on a the boys name Clayton (clay) but found out we are having a girl. lol so its a kinda long story but here is where we are with it.

I like unique names because I enjoyed growing up being the only Kia i knew. So i like .Hadley, Avery, Zadie, and Aliya

Jake suggested the names Zoey, Cloey, Emma, and Arieanna (Arie) I wont use Zoey or Cloey... dont care for them myself.

So the night he suggested names we asked Elora what the baby's name should start with and she said "E" (she can say E and I because we spell her name and sing Old Mcdonald alot). So i turned to jake and said "Emma?" Elora then pointed at my belly and said "Emma" and continued to do so the entire night. I suggested Emmalyn because I love that name too and he said we could do Emma Lynn.

I told my mom and sisters about it and found out it was my grandfathers mothers name! I got the chills because I am named after my Grandmothers Grandmother and then this baby would be after her Grandmothers mother too! So I agreed to use it but....

The next day I was looking into the name Emma and found out it has been in the top 3 for 4 years running! Gerrr. But I really love Emmalyn Marie tho DH wont even talk about names anymore because in his mind we have named her. He doesnt like unique names at all. What do we do!

Kia: I'm all about trying to avoid most popular names but if you love it, you love it! Keep in mind that the top name is less used than the top names were 20-30 years ago by a lot (look up the # of births by name and compare last year to the year you were born). I have a friend with an Olivia which was #1 or 2 the year she was born but she's never met another one yet. Does that make sense? But being someone who had AT LEAST 3 girls with the same name in school every year, I understand the concern. By the way, I love Clay for a boy but it sounds horrendous with our last name.

If it's a boy I am pretty sure we are going to do Noah. and I'd like to use DH's middle name, so it would be Noah Bryant. As for a girl we had originally decided to do Heather (which is the name of a friend of mine htat was killed in an accident right after high school...but we would request permission from her parents and sister as we are very clsoe with them and don't want to upset them) Im also not a fan that there aren't really any nicknames for Heather. (that I am aware of) the middle name of the girl is going to be Ann. It is my grandmothers, mothers and my middle name. I want to continue that tradition. However that would mean the initials would be HAW and I a m not sure I like that. I am stuck on girls names. the only other one I REALLY liked was Chelsea. and my niece who is due the month before me is doing Chelsea Michelle. My cousin (who is due 3 weeks before me) is doing Julianne Elizabeth and Jackson Kenneth depending on which they have. (which takes away the Elizabeth I liked too. I don't want ot use the same names that are alreayd in our family as our family is too confusing as it is! I have 3 Aunt Karens, there are multiple Matthews, Jims etc. I also hated that my name was so unique and no one ever got it right.. or did and had tons of jokes to go with it. so I dont want anything tOO unique.... I need to look into girls names becase that is what my gut is telling me

Heather is a GREAT name! I love it!

Nicknames don't have to come directly from the name. When I was a baby my nickname was Chuckles. My dad calls me "Heathe" sometimes but that's really just his nickname for me.

As for initials, I was HAR now I'm HAH. Tee hee. SO funny! HAW isn't bad. Besides, how often do you write initials anyways?

I'm not into the whole Hope/Faith/Noah religious names but obviously we have a different background. I do like Victoria though! It has always been one I like. Smile

There are some really great names being tossed around! I think this board are going to have the best names!!

We are not finding out what we are having, so we need to get two names sorted.

We have so many rules, few names fit what we want.

1. Nothing in the top 10.

2. Nothing with 12 alternative spellings.

3. Nothing with a nickname. We name them what they are going to be called. People were flipping furious that we chose Tori Beth, not Victoria Elizabeth. Oh well! Smile

4. Nothing so off the wall that people wonder how to pronounce it but nothing so common that there will be a six of them on the basketball team (failed with Lucas--one play group he's in has Lucas, Lucas and Luca. Grr!).

5. I prefer to follow the syllable pattern we already have. Two syllable, one syllable. But this is not a 100% deal breaker.

My top boys names are:
Henry Blake
Hudson Cole
Sawyer Graham

My girls names are nothing I really truly love so far. And many don't have middle names.
Morgan Jane (a bit too popular but it's my grandmothers maiden name so it's special--her name before marriage was Janet Morgan)
Charlotte Lane
Cora
Lana Skye
Molly (I love Molly but my mom has a stupid dog named Molly. Grrr!!!)

One of the big things we are doing now is yelling the names with our kids "Tori, Lucas, Henry, get in the car!" And trying to see what sounds most natural. Smile

i just realized my name isn't in my sig anymore. Good grief. My first name is Rachelle. I get called Rachel, Michelle, Rochelle, Me-shell, Shelley. Sigh. But my nickname from my dad? Willie. I have no idea. To this day, he only calls me Willie. Nicknames are a weird thing!

I agree, don't get hung up on nicknames. I was worried about DS not having one (Dane) but you come up with some. We call him Daner, Rooski, and DH calls him Spuds :?: My dad calls me Bear. We call my DD Peanut and Bean. Lots of random nn's at my house.

My daughter currently names every baby 'Cee Cee' so if we have a girl and name her Cora, I think she might already have a nickname! Smile

Does my baby HAVE to have a name? I seriously have no idea!! My other kids are:

Emily Paige
Cody Austen
Malia Claire

I won't do another name that ends in "y" or the "ie" sound. No clue though!!!

I love your names Lauren! What about something like Jocelyn Rose? That's pretty but doesn't end in a y. (Not sure why that name popped into my head!)

That is pretty Heather! And thank you!! I stress over names so much and then we always seem to find the perfect name at some point, but I feel so clueless for a while!

I keep looking through all these names to see if I can get any ideas. We still are stuck on names. This time isn't as easy with the 3rd!

With that said for girls I like, Tiffany, Lauren, Nicole, Makenzie, and cannot figure out a boys name.

Our first two end in the same sound (Nathan and Madison) and our third is different (Connor). We are throwing around the idea of another "UH" sound for our 4th but don't really want to get into that sort of thing - we want another 2-4 kids after this one.
