The OTHER funny thing is DH has 3 names (1 first and 2 middles) but his parents called him by his third name. It's SO confusing when we travel because I use his third name, which isn't even ON documents sometimes. He hated it so much he did the same thing to DSD. Brook is her MIDDLE name which she is called by.
All the men up the family tree on my dad's side have the same terrible first name and go by their middle names. (not my uncles, just my dad for some reason). My mom refused to do that to my brother and I won't either. I don't mind traditions but UGH! The first name is Wilmot. Ugh!
I've seen Kennedy spelled in many different ways, all sounding the same. I think that doing that just sets your kid up for a lifetime of trouble. I have a friend named Cristina (no h). How many millions of times do you think she has had to correct that? When DD was born and the nurse asked the spelling of her name I said "The normal way" and her reply was "good girl!". LOL
What gets me is when people can't pronounce (what I think are) completely self explanatory names. My DS Eli gets called "Ellie" all the time. Since when has E-L-I ever been pronounced Ellie???? It's in the Bible, it's as old as the hills! Ellie? Especially since he is a boy, why would his name be Ellie??? Bizarre.
