Ok, DH and I have a first name that we both really like but I have a first cousin by the same name. Here's the kicker, though. I have never met her nor do I ever communicate with her. My grandmother does, though. It's not as though we had a falling out or anything; she just grew up over-seas and we don't know each other. Is it weird to give our daughter the same name? Thoughts?
My girl name has already been used by a second cousin but as a boy name. I asked my mom and she said no way would anyone be offended at all. Maybe ask a few family members? I don't think it's a big deal. Thanks to marriage, adoption of older kids and step kids we have four Kens, two Steves, two Mikes, etc. And my sister named her baby Caleb even though it's her husbsnd's first cousin's name--and they seem him every day!
Use it! My DH has a first cousin with his name. And a lot his grandmother's great grandchildren (6 to be exact) all have the same first and middle name since they were all named after his grandfather. I think one person naming after someone is enough, but apparently they don't lol! So YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You can 100% absolutely use it no questions asked! NO CONUNDRUM!
I think if it's someone most of the family doesn't speak with then the name is free game. I have a first cousin whose name I wanted to "steal" for my DS but we decided against it as he spends a lot of time with my family. But if it he had lived far away and not by most of my family and they didn't all know him so well, I would've totally used it!
