Names?

So, has anyone started to come up with potential names?

My DH and I struggle to agree; it was made all that much harder because both ours were surprises, so we had to come up with both a girl and boy name each time. Our daughter was fairly easy to name - I still say we got lucky on that one Smile We just decided to both write down our top three choices one night and just happened to agree - we both had Kendall as #1 - and it was the only name we had in common. After that, I said "lets stop talking about - we are done!" If she had been a boy - it was a compromise.

With DS we compromised again; he didn't like my girl name choice and I didn't like his boy name. So we agreed to use my boy name and his girl name which we both said we could live with.

I dread this topic this time around -- DH actually joked awhile ago that we couldn't have anymore kids because we didn't agree on anymore names?! I like names that are not unusual, but are less commonly used (typically veto anything in the top 100 list). So, I better start looking now ! Smile

With DS it took awhile to agree, but we finally did. With DD we just used the girls name that we had picked out for DS, if he had been a girl. With this baby we do not agree. He likes Mason (I don't mind the name, but I hate it with our last name). I like Jack, I think DH likes it ok, but he really wants to pull Mason over on me. He got to pick out both DS and DD middle names, so maybe I can have some leverage!

DH and I were very similar - had an easy time naming our DD but a really hard time with DS. DS didn't get named until he was born and his name was even considered until the last 2 weeks I was pregnant. I left it up to DH between two names and he chose the one I was leaning towards (which I was thrilled about).

Anyway, we haven't even started talking about names this time around. I don't think it's really sunk in for him yet. I'm guessing we won't talk seriously until about halfway through, irregardless of whether we find out the gender.

Our biggest struggle that we HAVE talked about is if we have another DS, what will his MN be? DS has DH's name for a MN and DH thinks we need to stick with family names. I'm not crazy about using his dad's first name but DH feels his dad will be super offended if we use my dad's instead so IDK. Thinking about using DH's mother's maiden name as a MN instead.

And I don't even want to think about girls names, unless we find out we are having a girl.

Christa, my husband and I are the same way. I love unusual names, and he doesn't. i don't like most top 100 names either. With our daughter I was really lucky that he agreed right away to the name i have liked since i was little, thanks to my sister not using it. If she had been a boy, we would have been screwed. IDK this time how it will all work, we cant even agree on the names we thought of before deciding with El. o well, we have a bit. lol

With DD I liked the name Kennedy before I met DH, so I'm glad he liked it. This time we have a boy name picked, Marshall, but no girl name yet. Last time we had a girl name but no boy name. Hummmm???? Last time we found out the sex at 13 weeks but I want to keep it a secret this time so we'll have to come up with some options. I pretty much toss names out if they are on the top 100. Silly, I know.

We're set on Jude Asher for a boy. We're throwing around Saylor and Harper for a girl. If we find out it's a girl we might go back to the drawing board though.

Throwing a bunch if names around, but no real top runners yet, except if we have a boy William will likely be a first or middle name. If it's a first name we will call him Will.

My friend was just telling me that her nephew is William (aka Willie) and his parents are having another boy and naming it Waylon...i.e. Willie Nelson and Waylon Jennings. Ummmm....

Dh got to name DS, and it was agreed then that if we ever had another child I would get to name it. He only gets veto power if it is absolutely terrible. I am pretty much settled on a boys name, I have had it picked out since I was young. For the girls name though I am lost, there are things I like but I dunno. DS decided that if it is a girl her name will be Liza (Lie-za) because he watches Beakman's World all the time.

Good call on the Junior thing. I'm pretty against that whole thing mainly because it's SO confusing. When someone calls for Bob Smith, is it for the kid, the dad or the grandpa? Know what I mean? Also, I don't love hubby's name enough to use it over. There are way better names out there.

Julianna is SO cute. I like Jenna too, probably second. Personally I wouldn't do Jaylynn just because of the spelling issues.

i let DH give DS his brothers first name as the middle name because he passed away and i told him if he wanted to use his first name as a middle name i would be fine with that. No one even calls him by his first name so why would i want my child to have a name that no one calls him by. I've mentioned Julianna in the past and he says its ok so im sure that will be the name that wins if we have a girl which is my favorite, he doesnt like Jenna cause it reminds him of the porn star

LOL about Jenna. I remember when I was pg with DD there was a girl on pg.org who had decided on Chloe for a name. I guess she told a real life friend who replied that Chloe was a stripper name. LOL. The mom was horrified and very upset! I'm not sure if she ended up using Chloe or not...but I don't really think of it as a stripper name.

I don't think we have any ideas for a boy right now. We haven't talked about yet though so DH might have something he likes. We usually don't get serious about naming our children until they are born. Mostly b/c we are noncommital and both in the running for the guinness world record for biggest procrastinator. Wink I have some girl names I like but definitely haven't explored all my options yet so not sure my list won't grow. I am liking A names for a girl...Ainsley, Ava, and Andie.

We are pretty set on Sailor for a Girl and I really like Henry for a boy.

My uncle passed away the day I found out I was pregnant and he and I were incredibly close. So either way, the middle name will be Daniel for a boy or Danielle/Daniella for a girl.

William is actually my dh's middle name and his dad is Guillermo which is the Spanish version of William. My MIL calls him Willy and I actually told DH that he has to tell his mom not to call him Willy, but if for some crazy reason we had twins I would have to seriously consider Willy and Waylon, lol!

If we do William his middle name would probably be Guy after my Dad. Other boy names we like ... Flynn William, Collin William, Corbin William, I love Sawyer but dh said no.

Girl names: Possibly Allison or Hadley, I also love Harper, but dh says no. Names subject to change infinite times, lol.

I had NO ideal that Guillermo is Spanish for William! Learn something new every day! The name Guillermo always reminds me of the show Weeds!

I like Sawyer too...

So does Fiona go well enough with Ethan and Olivia or does it clash? *sigh* This just gets harder each child!

I think it sounds fine! I was thinking that about Kennedy & Cora...they might be too similar.

I think it sounds fine although keep in mind that means 2 kids with much more common names then one with a very uncommon name. Just something to think about Smile DD has a Fiona in her school and it's an adorable name.

DH won't talk to me about names, period. He SAYS he will after the gender scan, but.. I'm highly confident Baby X is gonna be born. Nameless.

I like Ashley Ryan for a girl. Ryan is my middle name...and Ashley is one of those girl names that reminds me of cheerleaders/field hockey/soccer players LMAO I also like: Kristin, Tiffany, Madison and Hailey. I don't care if it's in top 100, I just don't want any other *memories* associated with that name. Like, I really don't want to know anyone or have known anyone with it. There's also a name that begins with a "K" that I like and I can't remember it right now. Pregnancy brain.

For boys, DH wants his dads name in there somewhere. I personally don't care for Charles as a name, so I was gonna put it as a middle name, but DH got rather upset a few weeks ago when I said that. I really really don't wanna name my kid Charles, but if DH won't budge, then I'll give in. Boys names I like: Logan (DH said HECK no, reminds him of Wolverine LMAO) and Matthew. I'm sure there are others, like I mentioned before I can't remember them.

Right now we have Callan and Ethan. I like Callan but really hate the nickname Cal, so I am sort of staying away from it. Same with Camden, I love that name but be will get Cam all his life and I don't like that. DH isn't sold on Ethan and it is kind of similar to our DD's name (Elaina). Sooo back to the drawing board. We still have no girls names (and I think it's a girl).

edited to add: I LOVE Holden and so does DH but it is atrocious with our last name. Very sad Sad

I don't blame you. I wouldn't want to name my child Charles. I mean, sure, it's ok for a middle name...but there are so many great names out there. *hugs*

Based on Social Security info (so obviously this is USA info) Ethan and Olivia are both top 10 names for the last few years. Fiona was 267 last year.

Nicknames are a big deal to think about! DH really wants to name this baby Corbin if it's a boy but I sure dislike the NN "Corby". But I'm sure it'd grow on me because I really like the name otherwise so I'm trying to get over it. I love Camden & Holden BTW Smile

I think about nicknames too. I'm thinking if we have a boy and we DO end up naming him Charles, he's gonna be a Charlie and I don't like that either. I'm gonna have to name him some awesome middle name and accidentally (on purpose) call him that ALL the time LMAO

Jessica - I really like Matthew Charles - maybe you can convince your DH?

Yeah I thought about Fiona not being as common. I'll leave it on the list for now.

I don't really consider NM's too much. Maybe if a name I pick has a cute NM I would use it but that wouldn't keep me from using a name if I didn't like the NM. But my little brother is Michael and my parents didn't want to shorten it so we always called him by his full name and everyone else did too...I don't remember having to correct people, I guess they just noticed we didn't use a NM and so they didn't either. Smile

Kids often come up with their own nicknames too. I was worried people would call DD 'Ken'. I really didn't like that name. Someone suggested 'Kenna' as a possible nickname, which I thought was OK. We started calling he 'K' and 'baby K' before she was born. Then when she was old enough to talk she started calling herself 'Dee'. So cute! We had never thought of 'Dee'!

My family wasn't particularly fond of Damion as DS's name, and even I agreed before he was born that I was likely to call him Ian. (half because DH was convinced we were going to name him after Ian Curtis for a good third of the pregnancy, half because I wasn't sure of Damion myself) well when it got to it I end up using his full name all the time (it felt more right), my family mostly used Ian, and we had moved away until DS was nearly four so when we come back and everyone is trying to call him Ian and he was just ignoring them, it was silly so we aren't going to try to use shortened names before the birth until we figure out how we will actually call the child.

DS's nick name is Booger, or Boogs, or Brat or Brat-avious. mostly derivatives of Booger though.

My older brother is Michael Douglas. Named after my dad and my granddad. He goes by Doug. When he hit...about 16 or so, he wanted everyone to start calling him Mike. Yeah, that NEVER took and he tried real hard! LOL My younger brother is Stephen Jacob. He introduces himself as Stephen to everyone now, but to me he'll always be Stevie. He HATES it...LMAO. He did go through a phase where he wanted to be called Jake - and that never worked either.
