Names

Has anyone decided on names yet for sure? When do you usually decide? Do you and DH decide together? Do you have the final say? Wink

I think we're pretty decided on "Marshall Lewis" for a boy. Lewis was DH's dad's name (he died when DH was 19). We are both liking "Cora" for a girl but that is WAY further from being decided. I'm feeling the love for J names right now for some reason...so I've been researching J names.

My DH is pretty easy going and we have similar taste in names, so we seem to come to an agreement pretty easily. I had DD's first name picked before I met DH, and he liked it and went with it. We picked her middle name together.

None of our kids have been named for sure until after they were born. We usually have a handful of potential names and then wait to see what they "look like" or how we feel when we see them. It took us 3 days to name DD and 2 days to name both of our boys after they were born. Leaving the hospital is our name deadline!

This time....we have had a girl name picked out since 2007, right after we named DD. We both still love it, but feel a little bit weird about using it because it doesn't start with E!!!! Would she feel left out from our other kids?? Our girl name is Ainsley. And I couldn't change it to Einsley just to make it fit, I don't like it with an E. We've also considered using Eve for a girl's name.

Boys are where it gets tricky. There aren't many E names left that I like. DH wants Ethan. (I don't love it) BUT, he also feels like I've made the final choices on all the other kids, and I might have to give in on this one. He also has been trying to use Maverick as a middle name on all our boys and I haven't let him! He really wants Ethan Maverick this time. (Maverick just makes me roll my eyes. it completely doesn't fit with the style of our other kids names!)

Once we find out gender then we can really start to get in to it Smile

What's the story on the E names? Why do you pick all 'E' names? I'm just curious as to why people do that? I have friends that used all C names...the parents have C names too. It's so 50s to me! Smile

I love the name Ainsley...but it got ruined for me. Sad You should totally still use it though!!!! Personally, I wouldn't do it with an E. It just looks better with an A!

Ethan is nice! I don't hate Maverick as a middle name. I mean, at least it isn't a first name, right?

We haven't talked about it really yet. DH and I had an easy time naming our DD, but our DS was a whole different story! We have very different naming styles...I like unique and he likes common (especially for boys...he wants a good "professional" name). We didn't even consider DS's name (Dane) until about 2 weeks before I was due, then threw it in our list of 4 names. In the end, I let DH "pick" although we'd narrowed it down to two during my induction and I was pulling for Dane. The other choice was Gavin which I find too popular, but was sure he'd pick that but obviously he didn't. It's nice for him to feel like he got to pick it.

ANYWAY...for this one, I'll probably "let him have" one of the boy names I vetoed last time (Corbin) because he loves it so much. I like it fine, just know 2 people who had babies the year before my DS with that name. It's not as uncommon here as most places. If he chooses not to go with that, we also talked about Evan and Caleb last time but again they are more popular names which is all I have against them. For a girl...WHO KNOWS! We might be in for another battle with that one.

Sandra: Ainsley is so cute...so what if you go with a "vowel" theme instead of an "E" theme? Wink I would totally try that one by my DH if it wasn't so similar to my name. I like Eve too though! I like the names Evelyn and Everly with NN "Evey".

Yes, at least Maverick wouldn't be used THAT much. LOL

The E names were not intentional at all, at first. We picked Ella for DD. Then when DS1 came along we just happened to choose Eli because William and Edward were on our list and neither of them fit. We were worried about Ella and Eli being too "twin-y" but decided to go for it. Then when DS2 came, everyone was expecting another E name. For some reason we just kept liking names that started with E! We had sort of decided on Oliver Benjamin when I was around 32 weeks but then around 36 weeks DH started emailing me more name ideas starting with E. Finally it came down to Ezra and Emerson, and DH wanted Blake. I didn't want Blake as a first name, so Emerson Blake it was, and there we were with 3 E names! Now it's just sort of fun Smile But we like Ainsley so much that we might interrupt the E's if it's a girl!

I thought about doing vowels too....since we were thinking of Oliver for our last boy, and then we could use Ainsley for a girl. Ah well! In the end, what does it really matter? Just being goofy Smile

Definitely haven't even discussed names yet, and we won't until we at least know the sex of the baby. Even then, we probably won't get real "serious" about it until I hit 32 weeks or something. We've had a harder time with each pregnancy deciding on a name. With Odessa we knew early, right after we found out she was a girl, my DH heard the name, and we both liked it. With Sophie we didn't decide until a couple months before she was born. With Nadia we decided on a "girl name" about a month before she was born, but we never did have a boy name (we didn't find out the gender ahead that time). With Ellie we decided about a week before she was born. With Aidan we decided while I was in labor - about an hour before he was born. So, if the past is any indicator, this one won't have a name until after it is born!

Oh, and my DH and I basically suggest names to each other until there is one we both like. He usually has really odd suggestions (like Natural - with a french pronunciation - for a girl), so of course I veto them, and then it doesn't seem to matter what I come up with, he has some reason not to like it, lol!

DH has about name picked out, Mason. I like it, but I hate it with our last name! I am hoping to talk him out of it of its a boy. I won't seriously consider names until we know the gender. I haven't even really been looking at names or thinking about them yet. My kids want to name the baby non-names. It is quite funny some of the ones they come up with!

Oh Man. This is brutal for me. I HATE all boys names. For our first, we didn't know what we were having, and didn't have one boys' name picked out. We had our one girls' name from before I even got pgn. This time around, we have a girls' first name, but no middle yet. It was one DH mentioned liking last time, and I liked it, but was already set on DD's name. So I think we've agreed on it for this time. I like using the middle name to name after people, but we don't name after the living - and it seems like all the names we would want to used from deceased have a living counterpart in the immediate family on the other side. Like Esther was my grandmother's middle name, but it's also my MIL's middle name. Or Sara was DH's great grandmother's, but it's my middle name. And this goes for boy middle names too. Although in that case I'm happy since I really dislike the names Smile

As far as E names go. All my nephews on DH's side are E's. And DH is convinced his sis who is due soon will also use one. So NOOO E's for us. My FIL already confuses the boys!

Well since we arn't finding out I'm guessing we should pick out a boy name and a girl name. We like to have a name picked out before baby is born. I'm finding it hard to pick out a boy name this time because we already names 2 boys and can't think of anymore I really like. We have had a girl name picked out ever since me and DH have been together so that shouldn't be to hard but we arn't set on it and we need to find a middle name too.
It's a coincidence that out boys names end in both "as" (thomas, nicholas) but I can't find any other names that end in that and sound like it.

Douglas, Elias, Lucas, Silas, Phineas, Tobias, Matthias? That's a cute "theme" for the boys names!

I have no idea. If it's a boy his middle name will be William which is dh's middle name, his dad's first name (well Guillermo the Spanish version), and my brother is Will. Beyond that ... No clue.

I have no idea. Jon and I fought over names a ton in the past--and we never fight about anything, ever. This will not be fun. He always wants old man names like George and Charles. Sigh.

I don't do names that have nicknames. I name my kids what I want to call them. That's my biggest rule.

My girl middle name is Morgan, which is my Grandmother's maiden name. That's all I've got.

We compromised on Gavin's name kind of and Dh is so not the type to "let me have the final say" but I have convinced him to use my name for a boy this time which is Jude Asher. He likes Jude but not Asher. Gavin's middle name is his first name so he needed to get over it and he did. For girl names we had picked out Harper Sage but now I think Harper is too popular which is what happened to me with Gavin's name. I want Saylor, maybe with my middle name, Jade. DH likes Saylor but he likes Harper more. If it's a girl we may start over from scratch not sure.

Sandra, I love Ainsley too. That is actually at the top of our girl list...well it's a really short list with one name on it. Wink We have a history of not naming our kiddos until after they are born. DS2 was a surprise and Ainsley was at the top of our girls list then. I'm sure it would have been the name if he had been a girl and it's the only girl name that I even remember from our previous list. We haven't talked about it yet though so I have no idea what we'll come up with when it's time. We won't start looking until after we find out this time which will be at 18 weeks. We will all start finding out soon after Christmas which will be here before you know it. I am starting to feel like this pregnancy is going quickly.

I do like Douglas! It's not on the top 100 list so I never even thought of that name. It will definitely have to be considered. Thank you!

Our children names were picked out from our dating days back in 2001...lol. Guess we just knew we would be married and a family. It took longer then we would have imagined to have our first but the wait was so well worth it. Couldn't imagine me and DH both in the miltary at the time trying to have Alex (even though people do it all the time). But going back and fourth out to sea would have been difficult...sorry a little off topic..lol

But Alexandria Raye was her name for years and if she was a boy it would be Roman Louis. So we know if the baby is a boy his name will be Roman. We decided on Ava Reagan once I confirmed I was pregnant. DH calls the baby Ava now:)

Alex was called Roman by DH up until our 18 week scan. So my thinking Ava will acutally be Roman at my 18 week appointment:) lol

with DD it was easy because Ive wanted her name since i was little, thanks to my sister not using it i could! We never had a boys name that we could agree on. We had said Rylie for a girl and Carson for a boy this time but Ive been thinking differently. I have a bunch of names i like, well more boy then girl this time, and DH doesn't like many. we have a hard time because i like unusual names and he doesn't. Sad we will start being serious about it after Dec 26th. I have a feeling we will know then. (no longer team green, i got sucked in to finding out).

I like your taste in names! I love Cora, but a friend of a friend just had a baby last month and named her baby that. And I love Marshall and Lewis. Marshall is cute and quirky. And I worked with a really cool guy named Louis and I have liked that name ever since.

Aweeee, thanks! Cora was just a short list but I'm kind of getting attached to it now... LOL

Cora is on my short list too. It yells well. We have started yelling names across the house to see what sounds right, like this:

"Tori, Lucas, Cora, get in the car!"

"Tori, Lucas, Henry, dinner!"

"Tori, Lucas, Logan, clean your rooms!"

I have a friend with a daughter named Cora. I'd never heard of it before that.

I just adore Lucas!! I wish we could use it but DH has a close friend with the name. But I think it's so cute!
