Do all of your Doctor's order NT scans for you? They have to be done between 11 weeks and 13 weeks 6 days, and I'm wondering if I'll be getting one. I guess my old Doctor ordered them for everyone, but I'm not sure if most doctors do.
Since I think I'm a lot further along than the Dr. suspected, I'm wondering if I should call and ask if he'll be ordering one because I'd have to have it done next week at the latest.
Just wondering if anyone knows how common they are. I was under the impression that they were ordered for everyone but after looking online it seems like maybe they're not as common as I thought.
ETA: Not that the results of the NT would change anything for us, I just like the ultrasound opportunity!
Sandra, from my experience they are not automatic in Edmonton. At lot depends on the particular doctor but I would call if you want to get one. My OB did not do an NT and got mad as I refused an amnio.

I was given the choice. I agree that the results woudl not change anything. I just wanted the extra ultrasound!
They only offered me one with DS, because I was 35+ at that point. I think it's more commonly offered to women of advanced maternal age. Also, with this baby, assuming it holds on, the doctor told me there is a new blood test out that replaces the NT scan. They have me scheduled for that test on Nov. 29.

I don't recall my doc offering them before. I asked about it this time and he said if I wanted one he would refer me to get one but they don't do them. I decided to skip it since they do u/s at every checkup until they can check the h/b with Doppler anyway.
I haven't gone to the doctor early enough to get one. Plus after working in an office for the doctor that specializes in those tests and genetic testing, I don't think I could do it, I am not against it, I just would have trouble with worrying until the child was born. So if the baby does have an issue that isn't detected at the big US then I don't want to know until we can actually deal with it.
