Awesome that you have an appointment booked! I have one that same day I think
Being in the US...I don't see a problem with either system, as long as your LO is getting regular check-ups by someone who knows what they're doing! I would have no problem taking my kids to a family doctor if I had one I went to already. But I love our pediatrician who is very relaxed about everything and fantastic with my kids. I think no matter what kind of doctor you see, you're going to have good ones and bad ones. FTR, I didn't see a pediatrician personally after I was about 6, then I went to a family doc if I got sick or injured. Like Leah said though, it seems like family doc's here have really long waits vs a pediatrician so that's a definite benefit.

I HATE our pediatrician! the office doesnt seem to be very kid friendly and Im not a fan of the drs. (or the center itself... I go to the family practice side of it) Our issue was that in our area (and wehre we lived before) it is incredibly hard to get into the GOOD pediatric offices. They only take newborns from the hospital. We had a "decent" one when we were at our old house, but we also only got in there becuase DS was a newborn. When we moved we ended up at the crappy office (everyone in the county HATES going there and says how horrible they are...even one of their nurse practitioners agreed!) BUT DS was almost a year and the good office was only taking newborns. HOWEVER when this little one is born, we can get into the good office and then transfer DS in because he's a sibling....
Wow Patience! What a pain...sorry to hear your options are so limited but at least it won't be too long now before you can switch.
Sandra, yay for having something booked. I hope you like the new person.![]()
I had a "domino delivery" lol. I was out of the hospital in 3 hours. And I was delivered by a family doctor who specialized in delivery. It was AWESOME!
This time around, we are doing midwife, and the baby will be in their care until 6 weeks. Even if you're in the hospital, it's the midwife that signs out the baby.
I like how things are more relaxed in Canada. Much less testing and fear mongering. It makes delivery seem much more natural. And the midwives have access to everything the doctors do if one has concerns. I think we're going to do a home birth this time around though anyways since it's not like I want any of the things the hospital has to offer.
I remember my brother tried to get his son into a family doctor when his son was a few months old, and they said they couldn't take him since they only took newborns. I think my brother threatened them with some sort of "age discrimination" suit. LOL! It's definitely hard to find family doctors here that take patients, (especially Quebec because they make it really hard for doctors to start a practice, I think Ontario is a bit easier). But in general the system is quite good. Especially if you really don't care to go see doctors![]()
