October Chat Thread

I thought we could start a chat thread...mainly for those of us not in the 'Waiting to O' or the '2WW' categories...but anyone can feel free to chat!

So who is excited for Fall? I'm not a super fan of Fall but I have to say as the leaves change colours and the smell of pumpkin pie fills the air, I get excited for October! Our (Canadian) Thanksgiving is this coming weekend. TURKEY!

I love, fall it is my favorite time of the year! I do not like summer, so I always look forward to fall. We had such a long, hot summer that I am doubly glad to see it this year! It still isn't cooling off very quicky, 80's are better that the 100's.

We don't have many leaves falling here yet. I LOVE fall. The cooler weather, we like to go camping, and out to the farms for apples and pumpkins.

I like fall except for we usually sort of jump from summer to winter here (Utah). It'll be pretty hot still then suddenly snow and that's that. I'm just hoping for a nice Halloween since my DD is old enough to enjoy it this year. Thanksgiving is weird at my house since we normally go on a cruise with family...which means no yummy thanksgiving food!

Ok, well I love cruising, so I'm not opposed to that...but I'd definitely be doing a turkey dinner when I get back!!!!

I loved heroes and lost but never completed those either!!

I never watched Heroes but I watched all of LOST. I was also into Drop Dead Diva for a while...but it's still on TV and I've caught up. So now I have to wait for more to show up!

I like Being Erica. It's different but interesting. I like to knit and crochet so it's nice to have a light sort of show to watch while I craft.

Phew, I'm so glad I'm not a teacher. I thought about being a teacher...but teachers have no time for fun! Side note: My house isn't clean. If I cleaned, I probably wouldn't have time to craft!

So I couldn't resist and I ordered this shirt for DD!

Obviously personalized with her name. Ooooh, so excited! She can wear it all winter and in the spring too!

Heather: LMAO I can't even think about Halloween next year! I'm still hoping to survive this one with my candy-obsessed 3 year old and my 1 year old who runs in the opposite direction of where he should.

Speaking of which, those with kids (seems like many of us?), what are your kids dressing up as? My DD is going to be a cheerleader and my DS is going to be a football player (for my alma mater). I figure I only have a few years to make them match for Halloween (last year they were a dog and a cat) so I'm going to take advantage of it.

DS wants to be a penguin and DD wants to be a cat. I wanted them to be little red riding hood and the big bad wolf, I couldn't convince them though! Last year they were both pirates, they looked so cute together!

My DD is obsessed with sharks...so I ordered her a shark costume online. She hasn't seen it yet because I was worried she'd want to wear it EVERY single day. Well, she has now decided she wants to be a cat (like halloween Dora). GAH! I'm waiting for the cat thing to blow over before I bring the shark costume out.

DH is going to be Indiana Jones and I was going to make myself a carebear costume...if the sleepies of the first trimester don't hit me. That being said, we haven't even been invited to the annual halloween party we normally go to...so ???

Last year we took DD trick-or-treating at the local shopping mall. She really started to get the whole process and loved running to the shops. Well, she didn't eat candy at all last year. I offered her various things but they all got spit out. The only thing she liked was plain chips. In the last year she has discovered chocolate...we're in TROUBLE!

Do any of you do the thing where they can eat all the candy they want the day of Halloween but then they leave it out at night for the fairy who takes it all and replaces it with a small toy? DH and I are thinking of doing that....

I'm not sure what my kids will be this year. Last year we did a family costume and dressed up as the Adam's Family. I guess we need to figure it out soon!

Sounds like cute costumes girls!!

Heather - we did the pick one item per day for about a week while I slowly emptied it out to take to work so they didn't notice! LOL

DS is going to be Spiderman and DD will be an Owl.

I let them eat some that night. Then I put the rest up and we use it for rewards. I do that with candy they get for any holiday, I never have to buy candy!

Great ideas on the candy!

So I called the midwife. We're going in next Wednesday (a week tomorrow). Fun! Let the testing begin!!!

I love the candy ideas! esp the fairy one! one of our local dentist offices pays you for your candy--per pound. (I can't remember how much. the sign should be goig up soon)! then they send all of the candy that comes in to the troops. DS is going to be a monkey. bought the costume on sale already. HE is insisting mommy is going to be a monkey and Daddy is going to be a banana!:ROFL:

DD is going to dress up as Tinkerbell! We don't normally go door to door trick-or-treating. We usually go to the local church's "Fall Festival" where they have lots of games for them to play and bounce houses!

That sounds so much fun! My daughter was 1.5 years old last year so we did our trick-or-treating at the mall, then we went to our 4-5 immediate neighbours whom we know so they could see her. We only got a couple trick-or-treaters here last year, probably because we weren't home all night. Blum 3

OH man, ever since my FRER BFP yesterday I haven't been able to focus on my work...I need to get this job finished! LOL

Last year my whole family was Peter Pan themed and this year we were all different. On Sunday, we went to Mickey's Halloween party at Walt Disney World. Was a blast! Smile

Last year

This year - I was the evil queen....my kids are merida/alice and husband was linguini (the chef). My mom was snow white, stepdad was Dopey and one of my brothers was Mad Hatter

Photobucket

This was my two little pirates last year. I spent way too much making their costumes! This year will be much simpler! This was also at the stage where my DD didn't like for me to take her picture...

Your kids costumes are so cute! Heather, you made that?! Awesome! I'd upload mine but I don't feel like battling with Photobucket today. I have about 100 projects I'm working on that all require my kids to be sleeping and that time is way too short so off I go!

Phew! I went out for dinner tonight with two friends and we all drank WATER! I was SO worried. LOL. The 'not drinking' thing is normally a pregnancy tell in my group of friends...so I was sure they'd figure it out. I blamed it on the diet i've been on lately and how I'm not supposed to 'drink calories'. I think they believed me... Blum 3 Now I have to get through Thanksgiving this weekend. Blum 3

Yay! My 'big sister' shirt is shipping today! So glad. I forgot my mom is moving this month so I need to tell her I'm pg sooner than later so I don't look like a total B when I don't help with heavy things! Blum 3

Not drinking is pretty obvious for our group too. We're spending a weekend with some close friends in a few weeks so maybe they'll catch on. We'll see.

I don't HAVE to tell my mom sooner than later, but I sort of want to even though she's going to pass out. LOL. I'm her only child and she thinks everyone should only have 1 maaaaaaybe 2. She knows we're planning on a 3rd sort of, but I'd bet she thinks it'll be a few years. What a surprise that'll be! Anyway, I talk to her almost every day so I hate keeping secrets from her and I figure anything happened I'd tell her anyway.

My sister knows, I told her last night, and she is saying I shouldn't keep it from my mom, though I am not 100% sure why, I don't have anything against telling my mom soon, but I hadn't planned on telling anyone beside my sister for a while.

I've had one of those days too. My DD has been really whiny and I finally told DH he needed to let her "help" him with whatever he was doing because I needed a break! LOL. I realized I hadn't really eaten much today so once I ate, I felt a lot better. I'm pretty sensitive to my blood sugar being out of the norm so I blame that. But I was still pretty happy when nap time rolled around Wink
