Thread: OT: An election in the US.

Yeah, a lot of my family aren't happy with the out come, and are making wildly ridiculous posts. I don't care either way, like I said I didn't vote, but there are a lot of people taking sore loser to new heights.

I do not understand the electoral college. Why do we need them? Why can't we just count up the peoples votes and declare the winner. How can a person lose the popular vote and win the electoral vote? This makes no sense and seems like a run around to me. Even when I took Government class in school, it didn't make sense.

There aren't all the votes (less than half) in and candidates are conceding. I am seeing this as the votes for my state come in. What if by some freak turn a candidate manages to pull back ahead? BUT wait they have already given up so it doesn't matter, or does it not matter?

I guess I just need to go back to school, or maybe I am too stupid to get it.

I don't want to start a debate, I just want someone to explain it to me.

I have never understood it either. when I teach my students about voting its majority wins.. all votes count. I cant tell one table they get more weight on their vote because they have 5 students sitting there rather than 3.... it doesn't make sense. all votes should count. What about the absentee ones that they were only going ot count if needed because it was going to be too close for the electoral vote?

The last time this happened with the vote it was Bush vs. Gore. Bush had the lesser popular vote and won the election.

This entire situation is making me mad. This is not a valid system, this is not a valid election. States do not need to be divided up, you win the popular vote in the country, you should win the position.

it is NOT valid! I also wonder how many people didn't check their summary at the end. I know in my town we had people who voted for Romney and it came up obama in their summary.. Others I know that live elsewhere had the opposite.
