OT - Signs you need to get your Toddler's eyes checked?

I'm not sure if it is just because he likes to be close, but DS likes to watch TV really close to the screen.

In school he does better the closer he is to the teacher (but I think that is a behavioral/attention issue)

Are there indicators of eyesight issues? neither DH or I wear glasses so I have no experience in this department.

With dd it was her one eye would wander and we found out she is near sided. I was supposed to bring her in in January but couldn't :(. I'd ask your ped for a referral to be sure. No harm in getting it checked out.

If I were you I'd take him to be checked...but that's just me.

No harm in getting eyesight tested. It should be done every year just for eye health reasons. We started taking our kids once a year once they turned 3.

My husband needed glasses in kindergarten so our kids started getting eye exams between two and three. Right now they are both looking good and only need to come in every two years because they aren't showing signs of any issues. But until kindergarten, we did every year. Always best to be safe!!!

It was only ten dollars copay to get DS tested at the optometrist so we got him tested when I had mine done. I figure if we are paying for the insurance might as well use it.

So do I ask his pediatrician for the test or go to an optometrist?

I had to ask my ped first then he referred us to a pediatric optometrist. Then again she was 7 months old

My DD1 complained of headaches and blurriness. She has to wear glasses. Take him in to be tested.

We don't regularly go to pediatricians here in Canada like you do in the US so I'd just call my optometrist. Biggrin

I would just call an optometrist, but to be honest with you I am not the type to rely on my pediatrician much. Now I'm sure your pediatrician would gladly refer you to an optometrist, if that makes you feel better.

My kids haven't had their eyes checked yet, but it would probably be a good idea. I needed glasses as an older child and didn't realize it until they checked my eyes and told me I did. Once I had glasses it was a work of difference!
