    Default ovulation pain (an over-analysis)

    This is a long one.

I ovulated Friday the 5th, but since then I've been thinking a lot about my ovulation pain. it was weird this cycle.

Normally I get achiness on the right side for a week leading up to O. The ache is rarely noticeable on the left, it peaks a few days before O, and clears up about a day after O.

This cycle I had achiness clearly on both sides, although it was stronger on the right. It lasted around 8 days, peaking a few days before O. Then on the 5th, at 6:15am, DS2 woke me and I noticed I was getting twinges on the left... and a few on the right. That was it for left side pain, but the right side ache continued for the rest of the day, worse than it had been the previous few days. Then it disappeared. I've had twinges on the left before (when DS3 was conceived) but I'm not sure I've ever felt them on the right.

So, I've been reading. The achiness is follicles swelling and I get it worse than most, but it's not abnormal. Apparently feeling it more strongly on the right is normal, too. The twinges are thought to the the egg releasing, and are usually only felt on one side each cycle. Achiness can appear/continue after O as tube picks up the egg.

So... I'm wondering if the weirdness adds up to two eggs. Hmm. I have a slightly higher chance this cycle because I'm still BFing my toddler and it's my first cycle since a m/c. And no, I don't really want twins. I enjoy having my babies one at a time, but if I get two, I'll take them.

no idea - I've never had O pain ever! I have this weird "oh no" thought that I'm going to have twins this time. I hope neither of us does! I want 4 kids and DH may be done after this pregnancy so I'd get #3 and #4 if it was twins but man two toddlers and twins would drive me up the wall I think! LOL

I've read that you can feel O pain on one side, but the other side could end up releasing an egg first. I think it's a popular belief that it alternates but when I delved further, I found out that may not be the case. I too have signs starting a week before O and as you can see by my chart, I even get a + OPK. I think it gears up and then just takes longer or maybe even ends up forming a cyst sometimes. I feel like for 25/33 day on average cycle, I am feeling some pain or another. I also get cramps and PMS a full week before AF comes.

I also read that actual ovulation when the egg releases from the follicle isn't a big burst like we think, it takes 15-20mins!

Holy cow! I didn't know nursing increases your chance of having twins. Just read it does 9 times!!! Now I'm scared!!!!

I've had that thought too as I will feel both achiness and twinges on both sides (also sometimes it's not side specific just all over). Ovulation pain is a new one for me. I never had that until after I went of bc this last time in March. The whole thing is weird and I think different for everyone and I'm not sure you can really tell a whole lot from it. I seem to have various cramps, twinges, etc most of the freaking month too!

I think the more you nurse the higher your chances are. DS3 is nursing 2-3 times a day, and I doubt that has too much effect (compared to getting pregnant while nursing a little baby). My second and third sons were both conceived while nursing 1-2 times a day and they were singletons.

Malia is 19 months, but she still nurses like 6-8 time a day.
