Ethan saw the pediatrician today, at 12 days old
His birth weight was 7 lbs 2 oz. He was down to 6 lbs 11 oz for a while. By 7 days old, he was back up to birth weight, at 10 days old he was 7 lbs 7 oz, and today at 12 days old he was 7 lbs 11 oz! So....mommy milk is doing just fine
He's about 30% for height, weight, and head circumference. Very strange for me as I am used to my boys being off the charts for height and weight for the first couple of months. His cord stump fell off yesterday, and overall he is doing great and is healthy.
Nursing is not fabulous, I always have difficulties for the first while. We have latch issues, we used a nipple shield for about a week but I've ditched it now. It's super painful every time we nurse, it was the same with DS2 for about 8 weeks and finally it got easier. I think I just have super sensitive nipples. They are really tender and pink, and a bit itchy, so I was thinking thrush, but Ethan shows no sign of it, so who knows. Hopefully it gets easier soon. I made it 9.5 months with DS2 even with those dreadful first 8 weeks, so we will see how I do this time.
On a nicer note, here are some pics I haven't shared any on here yet!
He is so flipping cute! Nicely done on getting weight back on him!! That's fantastic! As far as the nipple pain, I'm really sorry you have to deal with that I have really sensitive nipples too and that first month is killer with every latch (if it makes you feel any better than you aren't alone at least) despite my kids having "correct" latches. Hopefully you don't have thrush; that is the WORST! Hang in there momma
