Mine are 23 months and 22.5 months apart. DH is 17 months younger than his older brother and liked being so close so we started TTC #2 for an 18 month spacing minimum and got pregnant 5 months later. I love their spacing! This baby we started TTC and got pregnant in 2 months so we just happened to end up with almost identical spacing. My pedi jokes that we must be "red" personality planners since they're all two years apart although it was really just luck.
We have never planned for any specific spacing, we just take what we get. It took us a year to get preggo with our first, so we didn't do anything after she was born as far as preventing pregnancy. I got pregnant when she was 5 months (would have been a 14 month spacing). We lost that baby at 3 months, and it took us a full year before we were pregnant again. We ended up with a 28 month spacing which worked out great, although I would not have minded it being closer. All my other babies were conceived instantly (first cycle) when my cycle resumed. We then have 16 months, 24 months, 18 months, and 20 months apart. The two longer spaces were when I tandem nursed and it took a little longer for my cycle to come back. Anyway, I haven't even really noticed a difference at all in the spacing as far as one being harder than another. They seem pretty similar to me. I will say that my 5 and 6 year old are very close now (the ones that are 16 months apart). Developmentally they are very much in the same place right now, so that is nice.
DD ~ 18 months ~ DS1 ~ almost 3 years ~ DS2 ~ 18 months ~ DS3
We like our little groupings of two! DD was such a good baby that we decided to start trying when she was about 10 months old, we got pregnant our first month. DS1 was a HUGE HANDFUL! LOL. We decided we wanted to wait longer before the next one came. Around his second birthday we tried for #3, and it took us 2 months to conceive. We were planning to have #4 fairly close to #3, but not 18 months! I wasn't quite ready. I wanted another 9-12 months. But then we got pregnant while nursing, so my last two boys are 18 months apart as well.
Even though I wanted to wait longer this last time, I am glad it worked out how it did. Yeah, I will be crazy busy with my 4 kids 6 and under! But since it is our last baby, now I can think ahead to how awesome our family will be in 2 years! Only 1 in diapers, everyone sleeping through the night.....LOL.
My first two are best friends. I know my last two boys will be best friends too at 18 months apart. I like that each kid has a little buddy and no one is stuck in the middle!
Mine are almost 3 years and 5 months apart. It was planned in the sense that I wasn't ready for a second until a few months before DS was conceived. Baby is pretty new but the age difference seems to be working. DD is old enough that she's getting more and more independent. She also has the ability to understand why I can't help her when I'm nursing and will wait or ask another adult.
My brother and I were 21 months apart and the closeness was probably good when we were little and played together but when we got older I don't think it was that great. Had we been the same sex, the closeness might have been good. Because I'm a December baby we ended up being one grade apart in school and were in the same split class on several occasions. We ended up taking driving lessons together too because he didn't even want to get his license until his baby sister was getting hers! Anyways, my brother is introverted and not super social so as teenagers he had next to no friends and I had a good core group on friends and was out a lot.
Laurie - I got AF back 3 months PP with DD. Man those kids would have been close!
Tori and Lucas are 28 months apart to the day (both born on the 28th, actually. Guess what my favorite number is now?!?!). Their age difference is perfect. Lucas has always been ready to do things earlier, especially anything physical, so I've been able to put them in the same activities, sports, etc. Tori has still in diapers for about 7 months (omg, thought that child would never use the potty) but otherwise it was so easy.
I am very uncomfortable/nervous/terrified about the age gap we are going to have now. Tori is 8 and Lucas will be 6 soon. We are in such a different, non-baby phase of life at this point. We don't use birth control, just try to be careful and after five years we just assumed nothing would happen. This baby was conceived the week Lucas turned five. Jon says my uterus couldn't handle my baby growing up and demanded a new baby. we will see how it plays out... I mostly think five years down the road, having an 11 and 13 year old getting into more grown up stuff and then... A kindergartener. Eeeeeeeek!!!!!
Oh, and Heather, I got my first pp af after dd #1 at 2 months... thankfully the others have been longer. I used a paci a LOT with my first though. I used it some with my second, and never again after that. I also co-slept with my later ones... which kept my cycle away longer.
