2-3 times a year. A big vacation only every two years.
Like this year, we did New England for 2 weeks in spring (but I have family there so it's more a out that than vacation).
In six weeks we are headed to Iowa for a wedding but making it into a full vacation, although that takes creativity in Iowa! In November we plan to go back to NE for thanksgiving with family.
Last year we did NE in spring, a week long camping trip in summer and Disney in the fall.
I like family vacations. They are high priority to me.
I guess it would depend on your definition of "travel." We do "day trips" pretty often - as in take off somewhere that is anywhere from 1-2 hours away, stay the day, and then travel home. Those are probably 3-5 times a month. "Big day trips" where we may travel somewhere 2-4 hours away, stay for awhile, and then head home happen a couple times a year. Traveling across country happens every 2-3 years. Oh, and if you count errand day as "traveling" (we drive into town 1 hour, drive all over to various stores, and then head home 1 more hour) that happens 4 times a month.
On average we spend every other weekend away from home, often at the lake or at my in-laws condo to ski depending on the season. Then there are random trips like this weekend we're 3 hours away for DH to do a race. We do probably 2-3 week long trips somewhere during the year also. My DH grew up traveling like this, whereas I never traveled as a kid so it took a while for me to get used to it.
