QOTD 7/16

I had a question I wanted to ask...hope you don't mind Ashley...

What does your middle of the night routine look like with baby? Do you change them when they are up at 3am? How much do you feed them? Where are they sleeping?

DD wanted some emoticons.... LOL :stpatricks::stpatricks::stpatricks::stpatricks:

M currently sleeps in a bassinet beside our bed. He's sleeping 3-4 hour stretches, which is nice, but it means he's up once or twice in the night. When he wakes I normally:

- DH or I get him up and un-swaddle him
- I nurse him in bed
- I pass him off to DH who burps him, changes his bum, and then re-swaddles him.
- I nurse him in bed again
- DH burps him again and puts him back into his bassinet.

DH is doing WAY more at night this time because of my health issues early on. Now I'm use to it I don't have it in me to not have him help. Blum 3 I have been getting up more when M first wakes so as to save DH a trip up. I still like having DH change his bum though.

The total time we're awake is probable. 25-30 mins...depending on how long I doze off for while nursing. Blum 3

I am no where near that ALERT in the middle of the night! I don't even get out of my bed.

Ethan is eating about 4-5 times a night. We co-sleep. The bassinet is at the foot of my bed, but I don't often put him in there. Sometimes he starts the night in there but he's in our bed by 1 am and I just keep him. When he wakes up, I roll over, whip out my boob, and let him eat. Then we fall asleep. I wake up a while later, shove my boob back in my bra and go back to sleep. Next time he wakes up - switch him to my other side, whip out the boob......LOL. And so on.
If he starts grunting and straining then I put him belly down over my side/belly and pat his back til he burps, then put him back down to sleep.
I only change him if he poops or is super super wet. Last night I changed a poop AND a dirty sleeper at 3 am or so. Then I changed a wet diaper at 5 am. Some nights he doesn't get changed at all though. Diapers and spare clothes are right beside the bed.

Usually around 4-5 am he has trouble getting back to sleep. I was up from 4:30-6 am this morning trying to get him back to sleep - but I don't get out of bed. I just rock and bounce with him on the bed.

The people living underneath us probably think we are doing the nasty early every morning. LOL. That bed is squeaky!

For the most part, I'm only having to get up with him once during the night. He is sleeping in his room with a small heater going because DH likes our house freezing at night and it's too warm in there for me with my night sweats so I bring him out on the couch to BF. I don't unswaddle or change his diaper at night unless I suspect he pooped (which almost never happens, he's a 1-2 times a day pooper at most). He is difficult to get settled again if I unswaddle him to the point that I can't get him to go back down in his crib and will have to bring him in bed with me...sometimes that happens anyway but less and less lately. Anyway, I burp him - or at least try, i have about 50/50 success at night - make sure he doesn't want to eat anymore then hold him about 5 minutes to make sure he's truly back to sleep then put him back in his crib. Average is about a half hour total these days.

He will usually do a good first stretch (4-5 hours) and then will wake up, eat and fall right back asleep. He sleeps right beside me, but not in my bed, so I can scoop him up without getting up. If he feels really wet, then I will try to change his diaper before I nurse him so that he will go back to sleep easily. Otherwise, it's just nurse and put back down. The second time he starts to fuss, it's not always because he wants to nurse, but just sleep in my arms, since he will not take the boob and fall asleep. Then I have to be more careful since DH is a solid sleeper. I will likely fall asleep and have to put him down later, or when DD comes in in the morning I realize that my arm is numb.

first feeding Im usually still awake.. around 12:30 1am. diaper, feed. bed. (in his swing) Then anywhere from 3-5ish he's up again and we repeat the routine. If DH is up at 5 he does it if he isnt then I do it.... then Mommy gets to sleep in and dh does any feedings after 5.

Feed and swaddle around nine or ten, put her in the rock and play, around 12-1 she usually wakes up to feed again if not i let her sleep until she does wake up or until I am getting ready to go to sleep, usually around 3-4 feed her unless she ate earlier then I don't, change her if she is really wet (doesn't usually poop at night) then go to sleep myself when she wakes up we move to co-sleeping.

Sleeping time is roughly 10p-8a. He gets up 1-2 times, usually twice still (he is only 15 days old!). He sleeps swaddled in the rock n play. When we swaddle him, it's like he just knows its bed time and when we unswaddle him, he knows it is time to be up and alert. So unless he poops, we don't change him in the night. Because unswaddling confuses him too much. He generally takes 15-20 minutes to eat in the night and then I snuggle him for another 10 or so. Then he goes back in the rock n play and right back to sleep. He's so easy!

Are any of you using cloth diapers at night or just me? Perhaps that's why I feel the need to change him. It seem odd not to....but it would be easier.

Heather I use disposables but we change at every feedign... I dont like the thought of him sleeping in pee... but he's also a peeing machine. so if we dont it will be OVER full by the next feeding!
