(On a side note, who knows this book? I loved it when I was little.)
DH and I just chalked up yesterday as seriously the most frustrating day of the whole year. Looking back now, I know there are so many worse things going on for people, but I had absolutely no patience yesterday and just about lost my mind.
It was the kind of day where:
You go in for a root canal. The dentist can't even find 1 of the 3 roots on your tooth. The other two are so narrow that he can't canal all the way up them. He explains he's done everything possible for the pain and he can't think of anything else to do to combat the major sensitivity you are having during the procedure. It takes 2.5 hours instead of 1.5 hours. You have to go back in January to have it finished. He sends you home with an emergency number to phone if there is any more sensitivity - and if there is, he'll just yank the whole darn tooth out, because it's not worth it anymore. Your husband has to miss the whole morning of work just to watch the kids in the dentist waiting room.
Your baby only takes 40 minute naps. Enough said.
Your 3 year old son acts like the spawn of the devil when he gets home from school for the entire rest of the day. All you hear is crying, whining, and screaming.
You drop an entire full can of soup on the floor and all over your clothes. It takes a whole roll of paper towel to clean it up. You decide to feed your children Cheerios for supper.
Your baby is exhausted from barely napping and won't let you get anything done. You spend the evening tripping over the 5,000 toys and pots and pans which are for some reason all over every inch of floor in your house.
(Your husband is out all evening at meetings, so no help there.)
When you finally get the kids in their pajamas and are reading them a bedtime story, your baby picks up your iPhone and leaves the room. He returns 20 seconds later without the phone. You KNOW, you JUST KNOW that he has dropped it in the still full bathtub. And he has.
You scare all your kids with your freaking out for the welfare of your phone, which was at the bottom of the tub for at least 30 seconds. It spends the night in a bag full of rice and a desiccant capsule used for drying out your 3 year olds hearing aids. (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE BE OK!)
Just another day full of motherhood, I suppose. SIGH.
P.S. Sorry to be such a downer this week! Maybe Christmas will make me feel better
UGH! I absolutely HATE it when days go like that. I just want to crawl into bed at 3pm and get a do over! Too bad it isn't always possible!
I hope your phone's ok. DH took his BlackBerry in the hot tub...it was fully submerged for like 5-10 minutes or longer! We pulled the battery and put it in rice for days. It ended up coming back to life! The battery was toast so we had to order a new one...but he went on to use it for a couple years after. It was a bit quirky after that but it still worked.
I recognize your reference but I don't know where it's from....
I hope today is better!
I remember that book! Sorry you had such a sucky day. The tooth thing is miserable. I may have just told him to pull the darn think if it was such a mess. As for the demon 3 year old. My daughter is like that right now. After we had such a nice Christmas party at school. I think it's just the age but I know she is killing me right now. And I'm sure after having a day like that, the demon child doesn't help. Lol. And I hope your phone comes back to life!!! That's awful!
Poor girl!! Sorry you had such a rotten day! Crossing my fingers your iPhone recovers from it's bath. Those things really should come apart for such incidents. And seriously, what a horrible dentist visit! Sorry you now have to go BACK! UGH!
Ditto to what Jackie said about my 3-year-old. I had no "terrible two" issues that were any worse than her typical behavior, but since she's turned three, sometimes I think she's possessed! Not to mention my 1.5 year old acts like a two year old so some days I could literally pull my hair out between the two of them!
Does your little guy always take 40 minute naps or is that just yesterday? My DD never napped longer than that until she moved to just one nap a day at 18 months. Now she still takes 1.5-2 hour naps at 3.5! So I guess it paid off in the long run.
Hope today is a much, much, MUCH better day
oh my what a day, my phone is also broken, ds decided to spill his milk all over the table and my lovely phone was on it while i was in the bathroom, i put it in rice it charges but wont turn on. dont have any money to get another one so im without a phone for god knows how long. hopefully yours work
Sandra, that is definitely a terrible day! I'm sorry!! One of those you just have to look back and laugh about or just block it from your memory. Hope things are much improved today.
PS I totally get the spawn of satan reference at that age. As I believe most BTDT parents say the terrible twos are nothing compared to three and it is so very true.
