Ok, I need some advice. DD is a bit of a 'wimp' when it comes to anything scary in a movie or TV show. Ok, not really SCARY, just mean. For example, we watched a Dora show once where there was a witch. She didn't like the witch at all and wanted me to turn the show off. When she doesn't like what's going on she'll start saying "NO!" to the screen or ask me to pause the show or turn it off. I'm at a loss as to how to handle this. We tell her that the character is just pretend...but it doesn't really work. LOL. A lot of times I'll just skip the part that she doesn't like.
Any advice/thoughts? She got an Arial doll for her birthday and hasn't even seen The Little Mermaid yet. Problem is, I know the evil sea witch will freak her out. I thought about talking to her about it ahead of time and telling her we can watch the show but that there is a witch in it...and that she is just pretend. I'm not sure this will help. LOL. We also have open dialogue about how these characters are not kind and need to treat others nicely. Eeeek!
How do you handle this? I know a lot of kids aren't super freaked about this sort of thing, but mine seems to be!
