Today's Appointment

Well, I am still 3.5, which I was Friday. Baby's head is not fully engaged still. Sometimes I feel the pressure of his head and other times I don't. The doctor said sometimes the cord can be in the way and block the head, but he felt around and he couldn't feel the cord blocking the way. I go back on Friday (which is DS birthday), if I am dilated much more he will break my water. Doctor suggested walking to help bring his down. He didn't say how big I was measuring, he just said I was measuring, "plenty big".

3.5 cm?

I hope baby comes down soon! How frustrating. You sound like you're plenty done being pg.

I'm glad to hear that the cord isn't in the way, so that's good. Is baby laying anterior or posterior?

He is facing my right side with his butt on left and his knees to the right. I have been reading some on the spinning babies website, trying to figure out what might help.

Is his spine on your left side? If so, that's how mine is and the midwife says that's the optimal position. I think it's LOA on the spinning babies page:

Left Occiput Anterior

Yes it is. I sometimes feel his head rubbing against my right hip bone.

Sorry he doesn't want to drop down (I know the feeling!). Hoping he cooperates and comes before Friday! :vibes: I've also read that is one of the better positions. My guy will pop over that way for like a day then right back over to my right side

UGH! So it's like his chin is tucked or something weird. Silly billy!

Oooh...you have my same dilemma...what does your DS1 think of a baby on or near his birthday. My last possible date is the 5th and that is my DS1's 6th birthday...I hate to not his birthday on his birthday, or be gone on his birthday.
What are you guys going to do?

I've also been told spine on the left is optimal. I can't imagine being 3.5 for so long! I tend to stay 1until active labor and jump to 4, then stay at 4 until pushing time when I go right to 10 within minutes. So crazy! I hope it happens soon!!!

Sorry you don't seem to be progressing, but it really doesn't mean much anyway. I've had labors where I've been at 4 for weeks, including one that didn't start until I was 7 cm, and I've had one where I was "only a 3" and went into labor that night. You could pop that baby out tonight. You just never know!

I heard something about sitting up straight to help the baby move into position - I guess as opposed to lying down or reclining a lot. You could try squats or something too Smile Let gravity do the work so to speak. I hope your LO one comes soon! I know how antsy I'm getting, and you're a week ahead of me. With DD I was 2cm and 95% effaced almost a week before she came (and that was a first pregnancy!), it's too bad dilation means about nothing until you're actually in active labor. Good luck mama - hang in there!

:bighug: I hope it happens soon! I know if I get to the point you are at I'll be really antsy and bummed. I know it can seem ridiculous to feel that way when you haven't yet reached the EDD but when there is a history of not getting that far it can be hard to go longer. Sad

Lots of best wishes for labor starting now coming your way.

Thanks ya'll. With DS I started at 1. So it doesn't really matter. If I could just dilate 1 cm more, he would definitely break my water though. As far as sharing a birthday with my other DS, I'm not sure how I feel about it. I think it would be neat, and DS thinks it would be cool too. But I am afraid he wouldn't think so as he gets older. I think tomorrow I will spend some time on my exercise ball, maybe that will work him down a little!

Hubby just inflated my exercise ball too! Perhaps some hip rolls on it might help work him down?

Well, obviously baby came down!! I just wanted to say (which you know now too) that baby doesn't have to be down for labor to start. I think Aidan didn't come "down" until sometime during the last hour of labor. Wink
