Tuesday Appointments :)

How did they go, ladies?

Just got back from mine.

My BP was a bit high today (133/70) but no protein in the urine or anything else. My ankles were pretty swollen last night after having a busy day, but it went down over night. I gained about 3 lbs this week, bringing me up to 161 lbs. Just over 30 gained in total.

My OB said, "You look very....pregnant". LOL. But I told him I think this baby is smaller than DS2. My fundal height was only 38 this week, and with DS2 at 40 weeks I had a fundal height of 45 cm! So this one is definitely smaller, or just lying quite differently. Cervix check today - he said I'm very soft. As opposed to thick and hard last week, so that is good! He thinks I will go on my own this time.

BUT, we did the induction papers up today incase it comes to that. Induction is set for Sunday June 9th if he hasn't come yet! He said he usually does 8 days past (I thought it was 10, but I guess not). I told him my mom was arriving on June 8th, so we decided to do it on the 9th. The end is in sight! I'd love to have him come on his own.....he's got 12 days!

I'm making major progress....towards an overdue baby!! Lol. I'm measuring two weeks behind so he's likely dropped a bit but otherwise I'm still only 1 cm and not any different than last week. Doc said if I make it to my appt next Tuesday, we'll make some decisions on when to induce because he doesn't like to go more than a week over (which I already knew based on my last baby). So likely we'd schedule towards the end of next week sometime. At least he's nice and comfy in there! I'm still sleeping like a rock too so no complaining from me other than that I'm getting excited to meet him Smile

I'm so jealous that you are sleeping well!!!! I am up like, 10 times a night. Not to pee, just because I CANNOT sleep.

Yay for setting a date Sandra!! It's nice to have an end in sight Smile Less than 2 weeks tops for both of us, woohoo! Sorry you aren't sleeping though, I haven't with either of my other 2 this late, but for whatever reason my body is loving sleep this time thank goodness! I went through pretty bad insomnia a few months ago but it went away.

I also had an appt today. I'm 40w 3 days by their records, and I only get until 41 w 4 days...so I have week. I'm not excited about induction, and DS1's birthday is next Wednesday and I don't want to mess up his birthday. I was only 1 centimeter and 50 effaced, so I am worried about getting things going Sad

That's crazy that you only get a week past your dd to go on your own. I know plenty of babies that arrive a couple weeks late all on their own. Why not just do a little extra monitoring and let them come on their own??? It probably all comes down to "being sued." The babies that I know that were "allowed" to go 2-3 weeks late were home births, and midwives seem to be more "let your body have the baby which it chooses."

Ashley, I've been having some insomnia issues the past week too. I get up to pee, and the next thing I know I'm sitting at the computer for a half hour, then laying awake in bed for an hour.

Obviously everyone is different, but with my second, I was only at 1 cm and "long" (he doesn't give me a % for effacement) when I got induced and it went really smoothly and fast (about 6 hours from starting IV to having baby). My doc says it helps when you've had a baby already because often your body kicks into gear knowing what to do with a little push.

My doc is older and has been delivering for around 35 years+ so I'm sure he has past experiences that formed his "about a week overdue" policy whether it's due to being sued or seeing a lot of placentas starting to fail or whatever. I've never asked though but you're right that it does seem to be the "norm" among OBs and not so much with midwifes. That being said, most midwifes don't have much of a choice to let things happen on their own for the most part Wink

Yay for progress Sandra!

Ashley, it won't be long now either way but hopefully you won't make it to scheduling the induction. :goodluck:

Lissy, sorry things don't seem to be progressing. Hope that little one gets a move on ASAP so you don't have to worry about it. :bighug:

Oh, I hope things get going soon Lissy!!!!

I think most people, if they are concerned about being induced just because they are post-dates, would be in the care of a midwife, if possible. I didn't much want to be induced with #3, but it went rather smoothly and I'm not a "natural, med-free" mama myself. My mom had her babies under the care of a midwife, and was allowed to go 3 weeks overdue with one of my sisters.

I like a nice epidural myself Smile and I'm not opposed to be induced this time. I'd prefer not to be, but it went quite well last time so I won't be afraid of it this time.

Around here you can have an epidural with a midwife. Wink

As for going overdue. Around here they recommend induction at 41w3d (10 days overdue) but you don't HAVE to do that. They get a little more forceful at 42 weeks apparently. If I make it to 42 weeks they'll try to push me into a repeat c-section. Sad

I had an appt today also. My iron is up from 10.whatev two months ago to 11.8 after a month of taking the iron supp. My GBS was negative. Baby is measuring at 37 weeks, HB 140. My blood pressure was 120/81. Quick appt, not much going on, glad we live a lot closer (about 10 minutes away, the drive before would no have been worth it.)

Called insurance, got stuff explained. We did a bunch of incentive programs that got us money off of the deductible and co-insurance. If all goes according to plan, this whole thing should only wind up costing us about 60 dollars out of pocket.

Jackie: 10 days! :woohoo:

Heather: If I have any labor vibes, I'm sending them your way so you get your VBAC!! :vibes:

Sandra: Ditto this...you are a woman after my own heart Wink"I like a nice epidural myself Biggrin and I'm not opposed to be induced this time. I'd prefer not to be, but it went quite well last time so I won't be afraid of it this time."

They say the cost for the pregnancy/delivery at the birth center is 5000 (maybe less since I transferred so late in the game), I pay 10%, we have 440 in our insurance account due to all the programs we participated in, so yeah 60 bucks. Pending no one needs hospitalization in the next couple weeks...

Great appointments all around!

I am all in favor of a 39 week induction. My family (mom, aunts, etc) has a very scary history of bad experiences with going past due and I would rather aboid all that. With Tori my induction was at 37 weeks due to my health. It took 16 hours and I was not having any signs of labor at all so that was actually very fast. Active labor was only about two hours once things got moving, I think. Lucas my water broke on its own but labor never really started up so they put me on pitocin. I was on it for under an hour and he was born. So yeah, my body responds well to induction and I don't fear it. As much as I'm already contracting at less than 35 weeks I'm not seeing that as an issue this time, though!

Well aren't we all appointment happy today.

I had mine too. I didn't get checked, so nothing there to report. I'm kind of getting tired of declining the same things over and over again. It seems like a) she doesn't remember from one appointment to the next even though it's written in the chart and b) midwifery has become too medicalized when I feel like it should be the opposite so it bugs me. I let them draw blood today just cause I wanted to let them feel useful. I found out she's not on call this weekend, but at this point I kind of don't really care if she's not on call when I go into labor. Just have someone nice there to deliver the baby and I'm good. I'll have my hubby there and that's what's important. Anyway I'll only be 39 weeks.

On the one hand I feel like baby will come next week, on the other hand I'm leaving myself open to the option that baby will want to stay in longer and since I won't even be 40 weeks, and that's the LO's choice. I'm just getting really antsy.

Oh man ditto to the insomnia. I can't seem to keep my eyes closed when I should be sleeping, but feel like I can fall asleep when I blink during other times!

Baby is still head down and right in the pelvis (and looking to stay that way - which I'm not surprised about considering baby has been in the same position for 2 months at least now). HB was 130. BP 102/58. And apparently baby has quite a bit of room still. So as cramped as I think baby must be - apparently I give my babies lots of room and other babies are even more cramped!

Wow, yeah, tons of appointments! It seems like all is well with babies and mamas. Hopefully some of those little ones get the message to come out sooner than later!
