I'll probably get my flu shot, but I'm pretty sure I'm up to day on everything else. I do all vaccines for my kids on the recommended schedule and have never had an issue so it works for us. We used to never do the flu shot, but when I was pregnant last time Ds got the flu and it was so awful how sick he got. We all got it that year and we have since and will going forward.
I had both the flu and swine flu shot when I was preg with dS. That one I am considering just because I work in an elementary school and some parents like to "dope" their kids up with over hte counter medicine (cough, ibuprofen etc) before they send them to school so they don't "appear" sick. (then the parent doesnt have to deal with the sick kids at home) so i dont wnat to risk the flu... However the hep B I just dont see why I need that one.
I have the hepatitis shot because I work in the ER and surgery and getting stuck with a dirty needle is always a possibility. I skip the flu and pneumonia shots.
The flu shot has 250x the EPA recommended max exposure of mercury. There is a mercury free version, but neither of the hospitals where I worked had that type. I figure a couple flu shots probably won't hurt anyone, but one a year for the rest of your life is not something I want to do. I'd rather take my chances with the flu. I don't know if mercury crosses the placenta, but since my new job doesn't force us to get the flu shot I opted out. I had the flu shot during my last two pregnancies because it was mandatory at my old job. Both my kids are fine. But since mercury is a known neurotoxin I'd rather not have it in my body, especially when there is a tiny growing baby to think about.
In general though I'm not anti vaccine. Both my kids get their immunizations on schedule. Obviously I skipped the flu shot for them too :)
