Way OT: Christmas

I'm really struggling with what to get my older kids for Christmas (3.5 YO girl and 1.5 YO boy). Just wondering if you guys have started shopping (or know what you're getting) for your older kids yet. Needing some ideas here!

And if you're a FTM (or not!), are you getting the baby anything for Christmas?

I just went Christmas shopping today!! I want to be done before Black Friday!
I have a 4y boy and 1y boy.
4y old is getting a leappad 2, a batman playhouse, action figures, puzzles, dry erase board, early reading books
1y old is getting, age approprate coloring markers, board books, ball popper, puzzle & maybe a child's rocking chair. He isn't getting that much, just some stuff to open.
Does your DD have a doll house or a play kitchen, or dress up clothes? That's probably what I would get!

I also have no idea what to get DS for Christmas either, he might just get a new bedding set. DH wants to get him a BB gun.

When DS was three he loved the Leapfrog game things.

I have some pretty good ideas for DS. DD is a little harder and her birthday is 3 weeks after Christmas! I always get my unborn babies a little something at Christmas. Probably a couple of small toys or books, I will probably also do a little handmade something. Unfortunately, we will be a couple weeks shy of finding out the gender...

Haven't started yet and IMO he has TOO much right now that I can't imagine fitting more toys into our family room.

Anyhow, he's getting a Flyboat (Wonderpets....bought it last year and forgot to wrap it) and probably some other cars/trains/planes/boats, etc. Maybe a movie or two. I'd like to get him a kitchen because he loves them whenever we are at someone's house, but i simply don't think we have the room, especially in less than a year he will be sharing that space with a sibling.

DH and I argue in the store every year about presents. He goes overboard and I scale back. The ironic this is I am WAY more into Christmas than he is!

I probably won't get the baby anything, but I will start cross-stitching it's christmas stocking. I made DS's (only took me 2 years, lol!) and just finished mine.

New baby will trump DH's and I will work on that one. Wink

I was kind of thinking of getting my kids a wagon. Do any of you have one and actually use it? I have a double jogging stroller that I use a lot for running but I was thinking a little wagon would be fun for walks or at least they could pull their toys around in it in the backyard. I don't know though, just a thought.

The other thing I was thinking was getting them a balance bike. DH & I are big into cycling so we'd love our kids to get riding as early as possible and the bike shops here are all about these balance bikes for under 5 kids. Anyone try one of those?

I doubt I'll get the unborn baby anything, I tend to way overbuy for them later anyway. DH always gets something *special* for the kids that I don't know about and I'm sure he'll include the baby in that.

:lurk:

During the summer I saw a family with the neatest wagon. It folded up for storage and fit nicely in a car, it had lots of cup holders and if I remember correctly there were seat straps for the kids. I asked where they got it and it was from Costco. And we did have a wagon when DS was little and I loved it and we used it a lot.

We just got a wagon last month on clearance. I wish we'd kept it for a Christmas gift. Oops! I think it will be good for camping next year and going to the beach...you can keep all your stuff in the wagon so it doesn't sit on the wet sand...and if the tide comes in, you have a bit of time until it all gets wet. Not sure if you live near the beach.

We bought my DD a balance bike for her 2nd birthday and it was way too hard for her. It was big and heavy (wood). In the spring I picked up a used metal one because it was lighter and lower to the ground. On our last camping trip in early September she FINALLY started to figure it out. She was 2 years 7 months then. Some bigger/stronger kids might get it sooner but???? I'd say go ahead for the 3.5 YO but probably not the 1.5 YO.

I knit/crochet and sell hats on top of my real job so I have extra money this time of year...so I thought about buying baby something...but it's sort of early. DD was due early February so that sort of made more sense.

This is DD the first time she really figured her running bike out (at 2y7m). DH says by the end of the trip she was WAY better...but I wasn't feeling well that trip and spent some time in the trailer and missed it.

My girls are all getting American Girl stuff and Calico Critter stuff. I have no idea about baby boy... he doesn't need anything - maybe a wrapped, empty box. Smile

Thanks for the info. I definitely do NOT live near the beach (live in Utah) but I was thinking it'd work for the park/zoo/etc. I think K is doing great for 2y 7m on the balance bike!

Bwa ha ha. My little guy was 5 months last Christmas and he barely got any "real" presents from us, mostly just stuff like more spoons and bowls and things like that that he needed anyway. It's nice when they are tiny and don't care Smile

We don't spend a lot at Christmas. Our kids get enough toys from their grandparents.

My kids will each be getting a DVD (from our Disney Movie Club membership), plus one other thing. DD (5) will be getting a pair of running shoes - she loves to go running with DH and wants to do a race next summer. DS1 (3.5) I haven't decided. Maybe a remote control Batmobile - he's in to Batman now. DS2 (1) will have just had his birthday so I guess I better decide what to get him for each!

I got El (just turned 1) movies, books, blocks, a toy camera, and some tub toys so far. I want to get her a gaming system (she plays on my phone a lot) and some things for her new room. I dont think i will get this baby anything, i didn't get el anything last year (she was 8 weeks old) because everyone got her tons.

My girls are 7 & 4 and we're getting them bikes, their own Nintendo DS's and various other things like toys for their dollhouse, the obligatory stuffed animal or two, clothing etc. I am also thinking about a puppy (as I am not yet pregnant and have been thinking about it for awhile....would be good to train before morning sickness etc)

My son LOVES the kitchens whenever we go to someone elses house!

We have a wagon and use it all of the time. of course we live walking distance to my parents.... but we also took it trick or treating and to some car shows.

Im jealous of the little ones on bikes! We can't get DS to even ride a tricycle!

I also am CLUELESS as to waht to get DS. we have a few thigns but we have to make lists for others. and MIL told us this weekend she wants a list from DS AND Us next week. Really? a week notice? I've been thinking for months and can't find anything.

My niece has 3 kids in Utah and they use their wagon all the time! They are in Layton. I actually bought her one brother a wagon for his 3rd birthday.
