The week ahead...CHAT!

How is everyone's weekend going?

Are you working mama's back at work? Are your kids back in school?

My kids start school again tomorrow - SO happy. It is weird since until this last fall, they weren't in school at all and I was so used to having them home with me. Then DD started kindergarten (just afternoons) and DS1 started preschool 4 days a week. Now I am going STIR CRAZY with them at home all day! They are so bored and I have no energy to do anything fun! I am glad to send them back to school tomorrow. Phew.

This week I have the dentist again to finish up my root-canal-from-hell. So.....not looking forward to that. But I AM looking forward to: choir starting up again on Thursday! And....U/S on Friday!!!! Yippee!!!!!

We homeschool, and we started back to school last Wednesday, I am trying I get as many days in to be sure we get done with school before his baby comes! I have two ultrasounds this week, so I have that to look forward to! We are taking our son to his first NBA game this week, he is so excited! Otherwise this week will be normal. I do need to be getting DD some birthday presents, it so hard right after Christmas coming up with ideas!

This weekend we have had company for dinner Friday and Saturday night, so that was fun. Our weekends are normally pretty boring!

We also homeschool, and just break whenever. My family is visiting for a few days this weekend, so we will take a break then for a few days. We really only took Christmas eve and Christmas day off. My poor DH even got called to work on CHristmas day, but he is also taking a day off when my family comes this weekend, so that will be nice. It's actually easier for us to do school then not. The kids are still really young, so we don't do "much," but it adds a nice routine and flow to our day. I'm sure that's what you are missing right now Sandra - the routine and flow of your day. With your kids in school you got use to a new routine, and that's been all changed up the past couple weeks.

DD went back to daycare last Wednesday and we went back to work that day too. DSD was here because her school doesn't go back until tomorrow. DH has taken her to her mom's house so it'll be just us 3 this week.

Not much planned for the week. I'm cooking a turkey right now, so that'll keep us fed for a few days. Ummm...what else? Not sure. Blum 3

I just realized DS1 has an appt with a geneticist this week too, so add ANOTHER appt I have to find a babysitter for. DH has quarter end at work this week so he is way too busy to help out. I think I found a sitter for during the ultrasound and also for during my root canal. Now just to find one for DS1's 9 am appointment at the hospital.....SO early. That means I need a sitter by 8:15 in the morning on Thursday. I can't ask someone with school age kids because they will be so busy at that time.

Sounds like a fun week for you guys Leah! DS1's birthday is in a month, and it is always hard to buy presents right after Christmas. I think we are getting him a Leap Pad or something. Plus his party is at a Monster Truck show, so that is enough money right there.

I definitely miss the routine! I am ready to get back to the grind. Sucks that this week is so busy though.

Gabby went back to pre k last week and Dom doesn't go to school yet. We, however, have had a rather stressful couple of weeks. Gabs started out with croup and a fever. Then I got a sinus infection and had to go on antibiotics. Which totally stressed me out cause I almost never get sick and this is the first time I have had to take any medicine/antibiotics while pregnant!! Then On Thursday Dom got croup but he got it really bad and quickly. It happened in a matter of just a few hours!! I rushed him to the ped and had to get him steroids cause he was having trouble breathing. I thought we were going to have to make a trip to the hospital but I caught it just in time! Thank God! If I had even waited just a couple more hours it would have been bad.

So it has been rather eventful here and I'm looking forward to a better week ahead!!

Yikes, croup is scarey stuff. I had to go to the hospital with it when I was younger. Thankfully, none of my kids have ever had it.

Its my youngest sons 2nd Birthday next month, too, and I've no idea what to get him. Probably something he can play with outside in the summer. Maybe a ride on. Something like this

Those little ride in cars are really fun. Back when we had a paved driveway we had a couple. Now we live out in the country with a dirt driveway and shrubby land. We have 2.5 acres, but nothing is "smooth." I got my 2 and 4 year olds (they have a birthday only a week apart) an all terrain wagon for their birthday last year. They love it! Those little cars might still work out here - not sure. If I find one at a garage sale for $5 I might pick it up. Smile

We have one of those little cars! My kids still fight over it at ages 4 and 5.5, so it's a good investment!! Next summer I will probably have to ban them from it and say it's for babies only (my youngest will love it). Except ours is pink...LOL. DH hates when our boys play with girl toys.

Yikes Jackie! Glad you caught it in time!

Sandra: sorry you have to finish your root canal this week but wooooohooooo for your u/s!! We need some more gender reveals on our board! Biggrin

I hear you all on routine! My DD is back in preschool which is only about 3 hours but it is generally when I get errands ran and whatnot. DS picked up a cold from our friends' kids and has been miserable for 4 days now but is finally on the rebound. I can't even begin to explain how much snot I've wiped, not to mention his coughing has kept him (and therefore me) awake most of the night. But now that he's getting better, DD is seems to be getting it. Sigh.

I don't really mind that my boy plays with the girl toys. The funny thing is, he still plays with them in a much more "boy" way.

I watch the biggest loser! I fell asleep in the middle last night... so sad... I should have known I wouldn't last and recorded it. Oh well.

It doesn't bug me either. Playing with toys on both sides of the spectrum is essential to their development!

Sandra- how did the root canal go?

Laurie- my son plays with girl toys sometimes and is definitely more rough just like your son. Haha

Ashley- sorry your kids have a cold. It's such a pain when the kids get it a week apart. It's like no one is ever healthy in the house.

Heather- we don't watch the biggest loser. I did watch the first season but I have so much trouble keeping up with reality shows. I feel like I just don't have enough time to! Wink

Rachel- we don't have one of those cars. But when ever we go to some ones house who does have one, my kids love it mi think your 2 year old will love it!

I think it's funny how men react to their boys playing with girl toys. I always played with boy toys - like GI Joe and Ninja Turtles and that was never considered "wrong", although my mom was highly upset when I stopped wearing dresses LOL

I was the same way! I'm more "girly" as an adult but I was such a tomboy growing up. Go figure I have the most girly girl DD ever!

Sandra: ITA its good for them! It makes more well rounded IMO.

Laurie: when my DS plays with DD's dolls, he starts out by carrying them around but usually ends up throwing them or standing on them after a while. Funny how boys are just wired differently. Bummer you fell asleep! The first episode isnt all that exciting anyway.

My two kids play with each others toys all the time! I think DH was slightly perturbed by it at first (he only had a brother), but he has relaxed about it. And my DS doesn't not play with girl toys the same way DD does either! Except for her kitchen, he loves to go in her room and play like he is cooking! The only thing DD doesn't like for him to play with is the princess microphone she got for Christmas. She claims it is a girl toy and wont let him play with it! He does try to sneak and play with it, but a microphone is kinda hard to sneak around and play with!

I was a total tomboy too!! I HATED dresses. My girls are all super girly and love dresses, jewelry, purses, etc. Even to this day I am very "low maintenance." It's funny that my girls are as "girly" as they are.

Ooooh, a gender announcement! SO fun! I sort of wish we were finding out...but nope.

I personally think that kids should play with toys of any type and that it's not right to gender label toys and say THIS kid can't play with THAT toy because of their sex. So silly. My DH has 3 older sisters, so if this is a boy I doubt he'll have a problem with him playing with DD's toys.

My new car seat arrived on Friday and today we got the angle adjuster to put it in the car properly. YAY!!! DD loves it. It's a Diono Radian RXT and it's SO trim. I'm hoping it will help us get all our family (including DSD) in our tiny car once baby comes!

Yeah for a gender announcement! It's hard to believe we are nearly at that stage. I'm actually not finding out what I'm having until birth - did the same with all of them.

As for gender specific toys - I really try hard not to buy gender specific unless its something my child has asked for for Christmas or birthday. For instance, sometimes you can get the same item in unisex and also pink. I will always choose the unisex.

Heather, that's great that you are excited about your new car seat. My friend has 2 kids and 4 Radians. She initially got two with head wings and then decided she didn't want the wings. She is selling the first two. They are only 2 years old, so they still have 6 years left until they expire. I am for sure going to buy one of them from her... maybe two? My Britax Roundabouts expire this year (or maybe even a month or two ago, I'm not sure), so I need two new seats! She is selling them for $100 each, which is a steal for these, as they sell for close to $300 normally. Right now we have our huge 15 passenger van which will accommodate any seat, but in the future (3-4 years down the line maybe) I would really like a Honda Pilot. Of course that vehicle only seats 8, so the car seats we have will have to be skinny! My oldest 2 will likely be out of carseats and boosters by then, but the younger 4 will still need something.

I'm totally jealous of your new car seat Heather (or should I saw K's new seat). I have a Nautilus for DD which I don't care for particularly and MyRide 65 for DS that I love (it was DD's, but when DS was about 9 months, I moved him into that and got her the Nautilus). The one problem with both of my are they are HUGE seats, especially the MyRide. I may have to get all new seats depending on what car I end up getting with this baby to fit three across. I could only be so lucky, I love car seats!

I'm soooo tired of sick kids! DS is starting to get better even though his nose is still a fountain and now DD has it bad enough that I kept her home from school today. I feel like I haven't slept in a week...oh wait, that's because I haven't!

Ashley, I hope your kids get to feeling better soon and you can get some sleep!!!

This is going to sound very naive, but I'm a FTM, so... I'm buying car seats based on consumer reviews. I wanted a travel system, but as I have a Mustang..and they don't come 4 door, I'm getting a stationary car seat and a lightweight stroller for my small-ish trunk. DH made a valid point: when we go somewhere, we're usually together (grocery store, etc..) and he ALWAYS drives his car, so we can get the travel system for his car. Well, he has a truck and a car that SHOULD be up and working by the time baby is born. So, the travel system can go in the more "family friendly" car, and I can keep a carseat in mine as well.

About being girly: I turned into a girly girl a few years ago. Bought a purse, wore pink and everything. Now that I'm pregnant, I'm lazy and don't carry a purse, hardly put on makeup, etc.. BUT everything I've registered for is pink and girly LOL

That doesn't sound naive, I buy everything based on consumer reviews. I think it's smart! I've only dealt with my Baby Trend Flex Loc but will say that plus a Snap n Go stroller is awesome if you're already going to have another small stroller for your car that you'll be able to use when your baby is too old to ride in her infant seat.

My dentist visit is OVER! Hooray! I won't go back now until a cleaning in early May so that I don't have to worry about going to the dentist for 6 months after baby comes.

Sorry about the sick kids Sad That was our family from October-December. Never ending sickness!

Just remember Jessica that you also want to check out reviews for car seats in YOUR type of vehicle. Personally, I wouldn't attempt any child in the back of a 2 door vehicle, but that's just me. I've long been a 4 door kind of girl. One thing I didn't know until recently is that some seats are shorter than others and take up less room when RF. My almost 3 year old is still RF in my small Jetta, so it's a bit of a task getting everyone in there. A lot of stores will let you take a car seat out to your vehicle and try it. That's something I'd definitely recommend.

The car seat is great! It did make it so I couldn't sit in my passenger seat but we have since received our angle adjuster and it made SUCH a difference! Here's a pic of before and after in my car:

http://heather.shadymile.com/photos/2013/CarSeat/Radian_AngleAdjuster.jpg

Oh, so we had un-expected snow today! It's SO gorgeous out there! Hubby has to go get DD in 2 hours and it hasn't stopped snowing. There's no car seat in the truck right now because we did musical car seats and I washed the covers for all the 'old' seats while doing that. Including the INFANT seat! Aweeee! I still need to put the cover back on but I'm excited to move the straps down to the wee size.

I'm starting to buy baby stuff. I'm nesting...

When my oldest was a baby we had only one car for a year... and it was a 2 door Honda Civic. We had the Britax Roundabout in the middle of the back seat. It worked, but it wasn't the biggest pain ever to use rear facing.

Heather- that angle adjuster really does make all the difference! I'm going to have to remember that when it comes time to rear face this LO in the convertible car seat when it is time!

The city I used to live in is having a snow day today - school buses aren't running. Which is REALLY odd for the Canadian prairies. We NEVER have snow days, our kids still go to school in blizzards!

But where we are living now we just have our regular amount of snow - which, granted, is probably way more than any of you guys ever get LOL.

Sandra: how much snow do you guys have?? We got about 8" at my house so our schools around here are still open, but maybe 15-20 miles north of me, they got over a foot and have some school closures. Schools rarely get closed here too.

My silly snow blower decided to overheat because it has a hard time with over 6" of snow so I have half of my driveway done  and lost all my free time where the kids were occupied with their morning show. So now I'll probably have to wait until lunch to finish unless I want to deal with putting them in their snow gear and taking them outside...DS still gets overwhelmed by all the bulk and gets sick of it pretty fast so it's often more effort than it's worth with him.

8 inches of snow and your schools are still open? Wow. If we even get an inch, the schools all close and there's people all over the side of the road. No one knows how to drive in the snow around here, I can't imagine getting 8 inches!

We get snow days here...but then, we live on the coast. People around here just can't take it. I don't get a snow day from work though so I have to work with DD home. Awesome!!!

We had snow here the other day but today it's COLD and clear. SO sunny!

Radians are fantastic. You will love having them! And for $100? Grab them!!! My very tall 7yo still fits in hers. We have Radians in one vehicle and in the other a Britax booster for Tori, Lucas has a Britax Frontier. He still uses it in five point for now.

I'm anxious for more gender announcements. When will Sandra be back????

Just went outside and snapped a picture for you guys of my front lawn Smile

Really, the lawn is only about knee high, but shoveling the driveway gives you a nice waist high bank! My family back in Saskatchewan is battling waist high drifts in their blizzard right now. Everyone around here is pretty used to that LOL.

Wow, I can't imagine drifts like that! With no open space we don't get drifts here really. Just thick fluff.
