When do they usually do a first visit?

I can't remember. I'm switching OBs this time and plan to call tomorrow to set something up. Just wondering what to expect. I'm guessing I won't need an early u/s since I know when I ovulated and so far no spotting or anything.

I have a midwife, I'm in Canada and we're having early genetic testing (family history), so things are different...but I had my first appt at 5 weeks. We filled out the form they keep for all our history and stuff...then we talked about dates, they told me my due date based on O date (I used OPKs). They did a pap, organized my dating ultrasound (for the genetic testing) and filled out the paperwork for my 60000000 vials of blood.

I was supposed to go back at 12 weeks for my next checkup but that's the day of my CVS, so they postponed it until 14 weeks.

From what I've seen the answer to this varies wildly and is mostly just based on what your docs practice does. At the practice where I first started seeing my doc they would get you in within a week or so of me calling and it would usually be around 6 weeks. He moved to a new practice and when I called to make an appointment with my last preg (ended in early m/c) they told me they don't schedule first check ups until after 8 weeks. But my doc saw me early this pregnancy due to my history. He did early b/w to check prog and HCG at 4 weeks and had me back at 6 weeks for an u/s. I'm now on the regular 4 week schedule.

With my first, I had an appointment and dating ultrasound at five weeks, appointments once a month and then I switched OB's after my NT ultrasound.

Now with the OB that did the second half of my pregnancy last time. I went in to confirm the pregnancy as soon as I got a at home BFP, and they want to see me back Nov 29th for an official first appointment and ultrasound. (by my calculations it puts me at around 8 1/2 weeks)

I'm going a little crazy too because I was able to see the baby's heartbeat so soon with my son and nothing for a couple more weeks with this pregnancy. I like reassurance that everything is ok.

My office alway had me come in @ 8 weeks. This time (I'm assuming because of my history) they had me come in @ 6 weeks. I go back in on the 20th (8wks) for the dating ultrasound.

We have found out that all doctors are different on this board! Mine will see you any time after you have had a blood test to confirm pregnancy. He does dating ultrasounds at 8 weeks, and my first appointment I was around 6 weeks

My OB also doesn't see you until 8 weeks. The nurse takes my weight and blood pressure, then my doc does a dating ultrasound, then they take both a urine and blood samples.

LOL, I'm not even sure my midwife confirmed the pg. That being said, I gave like 9 vials of blood and some urine, so perhaps that was one of the tests they did at the lab? I probably could have read the requisition form. Blum 3

I just had my first appt at 11w3d. but was seen at 7 weeks for confirmation of pregnancy. It seems like very office does it differently so I would just call and ask.

Yeah I gave one vial of blood the first time, just for qualitative test. The second one I gave multiple vials (I didn't look!) to test for a quantitive count and all the other things they test for.

I just had my first appointment today. When I called to get into the practice at ~5 weeks, they told me they don't do the first visit until 10 weeks. Last time I didn't go until almost 12 weeks. And I never went in for any "confirmation". It seems like a lot do 6-8 weeks from the prev. posts. But if you're not doing an u/s, then it's really not that important to get in so fast. I even asked my midwife today if she would be ok with me going longer than the "recommended stretches" between visits.
