Working moms - What are your plans?

What kind of maternity leave are you taking?

If taking leave, do you have a set date or working till the very end?

Will you be going back to work after baby or switching to SAHM?

Anything special you are hoping to do?

SAHM moms - Anything you have planned for the months after baby comes. Will your LO's go to camp or preschool?

I will be taking the full 12 weeks we are allowed. Luckily, 6 are fully paid and since we will be pulling DS out of daycare it will help with the lack of income for the other 6 weeks. When I took this job I made sure that was part of the deal Wink

If taking leave, do you have a set date or working till the very end?
Last time my water broke at my desk, lol! So I plan on working up until the last possible day unless the doctor makes me do something otherwise. I like to spend all my maternity leave with baby and at home Wink

Going back. Even with the cost of 2 kids in daycare, we still need my income. ALthough I would give my left arm to stay at home, I do like what I do most days. It's just hard balancing liking my job and missing my babies so much.

Anything special you are hoping to do?
I'm just excited to spend time with DS that I don't normally get to spend. We all get to bond and spend so much quality time together. I'm grateful for that.
Also, if she is doing well, I am hoping to make a trip to Michigan at the 2 month or so mark.

I haven't worked since 2007 when my DD was born Smile
In Canada we get 52 weeks of maternity leave, with about 60% pay during that year. At least that's what it was back then, not sure if it has changed much. After my year was up with DD, I informed them I wouldn't be coming back.

My kids will just be finishing up school for the summer in the weeks after baby is born. We'll have a fairly lazy summer (with one trip to stay at my IL's lake house) and then my big kids will go back to school as usual in the fall. DD will be in grade 1 (finally full time school, she's in half-day Kindergarten this year), and DS1 will be in his second year of preschool (he attends a full day preschool for kids with hearing loss). So it will just be me, baby, and my crazy 1 year old at home Smile

I will be taking the full 52 weeks offered here in Canada. Pay is only 55% of our normal wage for that time so things will be tight financially.

If taking leave, do you have a set date or working till the very end?
I'm planning on working until I can't anymore. I work from home in my basement so it's flexible. I can start my leave anytime now but I'd rather spend as much time with baby as possible. Last time I quit work 3 days before my scheduled c-section.

Will you be going back to work after baby or switching to SAHM?
Yes, going back to work. I make too much money for it to be worth me staying home. Also, I'm not cut out to be a SAHM.

Anything special you are hoping to do?
Spend loads of time with baby and DD. Go for lots of walks and play dates with my mom friends. I have lots of friends with kids DD's age who I visited a lot while on maternity leave with DD...I miss them so much! A lot of them are SAHMs so they are around a lot. I'm hoping for several beach and camping trips this summer.

We will be downgrading DD to 2 days a week at daycare initially. If we can't afford it, we'll take her down to 1 day. She loves her daycare friends and I'd feel terrible pulling her out completely. Also, her daycare is a learning/preschool type environment so she learns a LOT from there.

PS so completely jealous of Canada's maternity leave!!! I get 12 weeks, but I know not everyone can even get that let alone part of it paid

I'm trying to figure out what to do about this. Our daycare/school is full-week and does not offer options for 1-2 days a week Sad I know he is going to miss his friends and the activities, but we simply can't afford it while I am out. Also, I want him home with me most of the time for selfish reasons.

I'm trying to find some daycamp options that are 1/2 day here and there for the summer and mix it up with swim lessons and gymboree type of stuff. He might do a week at Sea World day camp if my MIL can take the week off (she's offered to take him and we would pay for it - preschoolers need a guardian)

I'm blessed to have a lot of help, my mom and MIL, so I can take him to the pool, park, library etc and have someone stay with the baby.

I don't want him to be bored, but summers here are HOT! I hibernate in the summer (its like reverse summer, lol) and I have never stayed home with him since he was born, so to be honest, I don't know how to be a SAHM for 3 months.

SAHM with homeschooling. I want to continue on with schooling a week or so off after baby is born, but DH wants a full summer vacation and start fresh in August. We will see.
Don't have anything special planned. DH is supposed to have big upgrade to all the systems at work (which is worldwide) around the time the baby is born and will be doing a lot of overtime. I am also thinking about getting a weekend job or something, I need adult interaction.

Ya, our daycare is great. They value your business and having you off for maternity leave, and working with that, means that they almost guarantee you'll put your infant in their daycare too when you go back to work. It's great (and makes a lot of sense). We don't have a lot of control over which days she goes though because they try to mesh up the part time kids evenly across the week.

I wouldn't be able to handle Florida in the summer.

We are homeschooling and have 7 days left in the year, yay! I wanted to get done before baby got here so we took basically no days off during the school year. I need the summer to get in a routine, before we start back again. It takes me awhile to adjust! Nothing special with the kids, we will probably stay home most of the time. My mom will stay with us a few weeks after baby is born, so she will help a lot with the two older ones.

I am taking around 17 "school" days off. Then I'll have off July and August, and then school will start.

If taking leave, do you have a set date or working till the very end?

I'm still deciding. My due date is Memorial day weekend, but once you are overdue (which I asssume I will be) you have a lot more appointments. I'm thinking I won't go back after Memorial day.

Will you be going back to work after baby or switching to SAHM?

Back to work. We can't afford to have me not work even with all of the daycare costs, and mortgage stuff.

Anything special you are hoping to do?

Hopefully, be able to still do fun stuff with the older kids.

you mean I'm not the only crazy nut who thinks I can take just a week off and jump back into homeschooling? That's our plan, too. I scheduled us to start our new year Monday and gave us until September to get 12 weeks in but I'm hoping to do better than that. We HATE doing school in February, March and April because the weather is dreary and we also have a ton of activities happening. We prefer to sleep in when the morning are dark and cold, too. So we do as much school during nice weather as possible.

We have swim team Mondah through Saturday from Memorial Day to August 1. And then the week of August 13th, we are traveling. Plus home school. So no, there won't be much slowing down this summer! It's just not our style. This baby is going to get used to our crazy family schedule straight from the hospital!

Obviously, im a sahm. I was determined to not be a SAHM but every time I took a job after Tori was born, something crazy and out of my control happened and I finally realized that like it or not, a SAHM is what I was meant to be. And of course now I love it but it took awhile. Thankfully between the cost of living where we are and Jon getting a decent paying job, we are fine on one salary.

We tend to do four day weeks (and a few three's depending on how wiped out I am vs. how combative he is), I decided that doing it the whole year round would probably work better for him since he is constantly wanting to learn (at least science). I figure since he is still in kindergarten but doing almost all first grade level, we are doing fine, never really understood why with all the wasted time at actual school it takes so long other than it works with parents schedules.

SAHM. DD has never been in preschool or daycare, so she's staying with me and babe. DD is looking forward to lots of time at the park, farm and zoo. So that will be our summer! I have help to take her to places when the baby is first born too.

I would like to take the full 12 weeks but I goofed and never updated my short-term disability policy to ensure my benefit was consistent with my current salary. The amount I am getting for 6 weeks is the equivalent to ONE of my paychecks now. Sad

Sigh! I plan on working until the very end even though I would love to be home now....

Will you be going back to work after baby or switching to SAHM?
Yes, I will be going back to work. I am the bread-winner in the house so it is back to the salt mines for me.

Anything special you are hoping to do?
We have been surprised by how much family is coming to visit us when she is born. We stipulated that they came one family at a time. Our families are spread out all over the country with the exception of Arizona. Therefore, I am planning to enjoy their company as much as I can during the stressful time and put them to work as much as possible! He he!

Not applicable! Wink
