Default A better solution for constipation

DD had her urology checkup a couple weeks ago and her urologist said that we need to get her chronic constipation under control - it's contributing to her UTIs. Anyway, he strongly recommended polyethylene glycol (MiraLax, Lax-A-Day, RestoraLax or generic). It does not create bowel dependence, there are no stimulants and it works like a freaking charm. DD is now having skinny, soft poops every day but no sudden urgency or diarrhea!!!! I highly recommend it

You know, it's funny, but just about 10 days ago I added 1/4 tsp per day to my cat's plethora of constipation remedies and we're having success here, too. lol I'm so glad that it's working for her.

It's OTC - actually it's in the aisle with the other laxatives. The label says it's safe for children over 12 months, but the dosing is obviously different than that for adults. DD is 18 kg so she gets 9g mixed in a glass of apple juice. It dissolves completely and you can't taste it at all. If you are still having issues with constipation you should talk to your doctor about it!

Erin, I do not think it's safe to use in pregnancy. I Googled it and could not find anything that said it was safe, although your doctor might say something different.

My doctor said to stick with Colace, Benefiber or Metamucil. All of which are pretty useless. But I do think if it gets bad the doctors prescribe something a little stronger.

Thanks for the info! Victoria's been okay lately, but she does have bouts with constipation, so I will keep that in mind.
