Default intrauterine growth restriction ? XP

    Hey Ladies!

I had my 34 week appointment yesterday. The doctor did an Ultrasound (they have been monitering me because of my bleeding). I am 34+ weeks but baby is only measuring 31 weeks. It could be because of my partially detached palcenta.

My question is: baby is moving like crazy, my blood pressure and weight are great and everything appears fine other than size. If baby is measuring smal but healthy, will they let me carry to term? Although everything appears healthy is the baby still at risk for nutrition etc? Has anybody dealt with this before?

I think it depends on the doc and the circumstances, honestly. With both kids, I measured behind by a few weeks at some points, and quite ahead at other points. When Zoey was born I was 41 weeks but measuring far larger than that--yet she was a 6 pound baby who, on u/s, was estimated at close to 7 1/2. Likewise, I measured smaller than 39 weeks when Milo was born but he was almost 8 pounds. U/S measurements can be off by as much as a pound in either direction.

This totally doesn't answer your question. I suspect they'll follow you over a couple weeks to see how you're doing. Unless there's serious danger I doubt they would induce before 36 to 38 weeks.

I'm sure they'll keep a close eye on you and monitor growth, fluid, etc. My neighbor was pregnant when I was pregnant for Sean and she had IUGR and ended up needing induced early. Her baby wasn't growing and her fluid was low. She was born at 4lb 2oz, I believe, and had to spend ~2 weeks in the hospital. But you know, your situation might be less severe and close monitoring might be all you need.

Hopefully they will let you carry to term because it would seem to me that baby would grow better inside then out.

Are you still with Dr B? Has he made any mention of not letting you go to term?

I absolutely am! I love him! He was away when they discovered the baby's size. Right now they are taking it one week at a time. Dr. B has been watching closely because of my bleeding though.

I measured small with Miles and everything else was perfect like yours and they let me carry to term. I went like 5days early and he was 5lb10oz (they said he was going to be 7lbs). I am measuring small with this LO too so my doc scheduled another u/s on the 9th to check on her size. I think if everything's okay they should let you go to term, but I have no other experience with it.

I loved him too, and he always seemed reasonable. I'm glad he's keeping a close eye on you.
