New Mommies!

There are several of us with new babies so I thought it might be cool to do a new mommy check-in. How are your new babies doing? How old are they? Any milestones? How is sleep going (or lack thereof)? How are their older siblings handling things?

Rowan is 3 months now. Things are getting a little easier. He is actually happy and calm most of the time, unlike his first few weeks. He smiles a lot, watches everything going on (especially his big brother!), reaches for things, can hold his head up decently well. He is still a little peanut though! But I think he is doing ok. At his 2 month check he was 9 lbs 2 oz, and when I brought him back 2 weeks later he was 10 lbs 4 oz. And he's plumping up a bit! Still has his pretty red hair though its rubbing off a bit in the back. Kieran is doing fine with him, but he still largely ignores him lol. I think that will change as Rowan gets bigger and can do things more. The other day I was reading Goodnight Moon to Rowan and he was reaching out and grabbing the pages, and Kieran looked over and saw him grabbing the book ("his" book) and got this surprised and indignant look on his face and pointed to him, as if to say "Hey, I didn't know he could grab things! Don't let him grab my book!" It was kind of funny.

We are in no-nap hell over here though. With Rowan, that is. His naps have gotten shorter and shorter and now he will NOT sleep longer than 45 minutes at a time, and often its shorter than that. As a result he gets over-tired easily and that is the only time he will scream... but boy does he scream. I remember Kieran not napping well either but I don't think he ever screamed/cried like Rowan does! He sleeps ok at night... he back and forth from waking a couple times to sleeping 7+ hours. Past few nights have been waking a couple times, so I am tired!

And finally, some pictures:

And just because, one of Kieran too. He is getting so big!

I am glad things are getting easier, I was worried about you! I remember the phase of poor daytime napping. I hope things get better!

Those boys are twins! And they both are identical to DH! I love it!

Wow! Rowan is a peanut!

Riley was 10lbs8oz at her 10 week check and she was born a month early. So she's really caught up well - the pedi was thrilled.

Is it just a second baby thing or are these second babies screamers? Lol. Cam was always the calmest baby - so comparatively Riley is somewhat high maintenance. After the first couple weeks of 'sleepy newborn' she got very cranky and cried a lot. She needed held constantly and even when we were holding her she would cry. Every week it seems to get a little better.

Now at 2.5 months, Riley is such a joy during the day. It seems like she's figured out her nap schedule, so that has really helped. So now when she's awake in the day, she's very happy and smiley. The evenings are still very fussy and we have the hardest time getting her down for bed.

Her's a couple pics:

ETA: Cam decided he *wasn't* taking a nap while I was posting that, so I didn't really get to finish. Blum 3
So, anyway, he is mostly good with her. He gets occasional bouts of jealousy and points to what he thinks is a suitable spot (usually the floor or the couch) and says "baby down!" Between the two of them getting up at night - Riley because she's a baby (about 2-3 times a night, but during growth spurts it's every 1.5-2 hours...like currently) and Cam because of these darn 2 year molars...I end up awake every 30-60 minutes. It's killing me!

I love Riley's grin in that first pic! EVERY time Rowan is smiley and I grab my camera, he stops!

Thanks! Riley is definitely a smiler! Other than when she's fussy she is the happiest baby I've ever seen. She's either hot or cold, lol. It's either a great mood and she is non stop smiles - soooo easy to catch with a camera (which Cam never gave us) or she is pissed beyond all belief and she lets you know. Wink

Hopefully Rowan will let you catch some good smiles soon!

Oh, I love reading the updates on everyone's LO's!

AFM - Cal is awesome. He is 10 weeks old today and he's really the most peaceful and content little thing compared to Sean at this age, who pretty much screamed inconsolably nonstop for reasons unknown, lol. Cal generally screams only when we don't feed him quickly enough, and lately, when we don't get him his binkie quickly enough. He's been big into comfort sucking lately. He has only STTN a few times. He's in a decent routine of waking one time around 4 or 5am and then going back to sleep until 8 or 9ish. Sean was STTN a lot more at this age than Cal is, so I was a little spoiled in that respect by the time I went back to work. I go back to work this time on May 26th. I'm horribly depressed about it and get more and more depressed as the days go by. Sad It's wonderful to have DH at home with them, but I just wish I could be as well... I hate missing every little smile and sneeze, let alone the big milestones that I miss when I'm away. I missed the first time Sean rolled over from back to belly and I'm still sad about it. I guess it's time for me to start planning my vacation weeks for 2012... The good news is I think I get an extra week of vacation next year since I'll hit 5 years with the company. I don't hit the 5-yr mark until August though, so I'm not 100% sure, but I've been told the extra week of vacation starts that year, regardless of what month you started. (That was way OT, but I've gotta have my time off to look forward to since I'm going back to work soon!! ;))

His stats so far:
Birth: 6lb 8oz
1 Month: 8lb 5oz
2 Months: 11lb 6oz
(I don't remember the length at 1mo off the top of my head, but he was 18" at birth and 22.5" at 2 months)

He started out a little peanut and stayed that way for the first month, but then the 2nd month, he gained over 3lbs and shot up to 50th percentile for both height and weight. He now has the same fat cheeks that Sean always had, woohoo! Love me some fat baby cheeks. Wink

Here is the most recent pic of him, taken just a few days ago. My uncle (my dad's brother) is big into hunting and outdoors (as is my dad), and he likes to buy my boys camo outfits, haha... This was a gift from him. And yep, it looks like we managed to get another blue-eyed boy. If I remember the whole thing correctly, I apparently carry a recessive gene for it and DH has blue eyes, so 2 recessives from him gives us a 50/50 shot at blue-eyed babies. Hahah.

The other most recent pic of Cal is my siggy pic, taken on his 2-mo birthday.

I'll apologize first because I can't add pictures, I'm on my phone. But once I can get onto our computer this week then I'll put some new ones up.

Maxton is ... Well, he's a lot more difficult than his sister was at this age. He has been STTN for almost a month now, until last week when he started waking up randomly throughout the night and not going back to sleep! He is a chunker, he's got the huge thighs and the 3 part arms :). He's FF, and drinking 4 8oz bottles a day, sometimes 5 of them if he wakes up during the night! When he's not fussing or cranking around because he hasn't naapped well (seems to be his habit lately as well) or something, then he can be pretty happy. He gives big smiles, likes to "talk", I've even gotten a couple laughs out of him, which are excellent. He loves watching Izzie, and she loves him. Just tonight she wanted to "holv him" before bed. He was crying, but she sat there trying to make him happy. She kept saying "happy boy Maxton, no cry" and then would laugh trying to get him to laugh. I love watching her with him. Really, the only problem that seems to come up between the two of theem is that they share a room, so whenever Max wakes up crying, she gets woekn up, and sometimes doesn't fall back to sleep very well. This can mess up both overnight sleeping and naptime!
