Update on us (long)

Just checking in briefly! We've had a whirlwind month - A's birthday, a family reunion, and now this week a family wedding. So I'm likely still going to be MIA for the rest of the month. But here's a brief update on what we've been up to.

We had A's 2-year appointment this past week, and it went fairly well. She continues to grow slower than the average, and her weight has now fallen in about a year from 60% to under 5%. The doctor we saw (not her regular pediatrician, but the one we've seen a few times as a backup) didn't seem concerned at all. I'm considering making this pediatrician our regular one and the other the backup. She seems to get worried less. Smile

Also, when I charted her growth myself on the WHO growth chart (based on breastfed babies - and you all know how much this girl loves to nurse!), she never got much higher than 25% (as opposed to 60% on the CDC chart), and she's never been lower than 10% (as opposed to under 5%). She pretty much followed the 25% curve from birth to 6 months ago, and has only recently fallen to the 10th percentile. So... I'm no longer worried. A is A, she's a healthy breastfed toddler, and she's actually eating a decent amount of food now, even if she's still not very good at swallowing.

Speaking of which, I'm going to take A to the dentist soon. She has a big problem with hoarding food in her cheeks for hours on end, and it's not good for her teeth I'm sure. Where we live, the recommended age for the dentist (both from my dentist and from the pediatrician) is 3 years, but the pediatrician agreed with me that A's behavior warrants an early visit to the dentist. There's a pediatric dentist near our house, and I'm going to make an appointment there very soon.

A's getting closer to being potty trained, though it's still nothing that's going to happen anytime really soon. She's gotten really good about actually going on the potty when I put her there, and she'll even occasionally ask to go herself. If I'm really diligent, she can go all day without a diaper. If I'm not diligent, I have a mess to clean up. Wink I usually have her wear underwear maybe 1 day a week at this point; it's too much of a production to do it any more frequently. Still, she's doing well. I'm very happy with her progress.

Sounds like she is growing well at her own rate. Yay for some progress in the potty department. It is good hearing from you.

Glad to hear that she's doing so well, and it sounds like she's making great strides in potty training!
