Yay Elle! I am so happy for you guys. That is great. I know how hard it is to get completely transitioned!

Thanks Angie, I am so glad we were finally able to ditch the bottles. It is so much easier to just BF.

I wish I could ditch Trystan's bottles... but then I guess he wouldn't get fed when I'm at work lol! Thankfully things have been going so much better with my milk now that I'm eating three servings of oatmeal like you girls suggested! I haven't had any issues!

Sounds like several of you have been working hard at keeping up with the breastfeeding. I just discovered this thread a few days ago and in good time too because I'm having some supply issues right now. I'm guessing when we were supplementing with hypoallergenic formula while waiting for my diet to take effect I must have not been pumping/feeding enough to make up for the formula oz he was getting. So I'm trying to play catch up now that we are back to exclusive breast feeding but Finn seems less satisfied after feedings and when I do try pumping I get a couple of oz for both breasts combined in one day rather than several oz from each breast in one session like before. I've been doing some of the previous suggestions...oatmeal, lactation cookies, fenugreek seed pills and make more milk tea. I'm trying to pump a couple times a day after feeding to tell them "hey we need some more". I really wish in hindsight I hadn't supplemented but I thought I was doing the right thing because of the bleeding and fussiness. I just hope I can get my supply back up because I really want to continue if we can.

I totally understand your situation we were in the same boat (giving formula while diet change took effect) and I recall stressing over my supply dip. I ended up going on a medication called Domperidone that is often given here in Canada to boost milk supply. It is not intended for that purpose but is perscribed by doctors for it frequently. I do not think it is used as often in the US but have heard of people there getting it to increase milk supply too. Ask your doctor for it maybe?

It has been a lifesaver - without it I think I would no longer be breastfeeding. It took about 2 days and I had TONS of milk. I had no side effects (some experience diarreah - it is officially used to aid gastric emptying) and it is safe for baby. I did not like going on medication but I liked giving up breastfeeding even less.

Good luck! It is so frustrating isnt it?

Elle, I don't think Domperidone is legal here in the US? I'm almost positive, but I could be wrong, as I don't know of anyone using it here.

Christina, I'm sorry to hear about your supply issues. How much oatmeal are you eating and how often? I know I didn't see a difference at all until I started eating three servings per day faithfully... and then no more supply issues for me! BTW (and this is for everyone on here!) I have a fabulous new lactation cookie recipe that's SOOOO much better than all of the others I've seen! I actually took DH's grandmother's No Bake Cookie recipe and just added the brewers yeast and the flax seed meal to it (as the recipe already calls for 3 cups of oatmeal) and they are amazing! You can't even taste the yeast and the meal in these cookies because it's masked by all of the other goodies that are cooked in... and the best part is there's no baking! They literally take all of five minutes to make! Here's the recipe:

    1 stick butter
    1 1/2 cups sugar
    1 can (5oz) evaporated milk
    1 tsp vanilla
    1/4 tsp salt

Combine these ingredients in a pan and bring to a boil, then quickly add the following:

    3 cups oatmeal
    1 cup sweetened coconut flakes
    1 cup marshmallows
1 bag (2 cups) semi sweet chocolate chips
    2-4 tbsp brewers yeast
    2 tbsp flax seed meal

Stir together well, until the marshmallows are melted, then just dollop spoonfulls of the mixture on a large platter and let sit for an hour to harden... and enjoy!!

Lol they're so awesome! If you don't need to increase supply, just omit the flax seed meal and brewers yeast and take the evaporated milk measurement down to 1/2 cup (you need the little extra in the above recipe because of the added dry ingredients)!

From what I gathered online, I believe in the US they are not allowed to prescribe Domperidone for boosting milk supply.

When I first came home from the hospital my close friend made me a huge pot of cooked oatmeal to keep in the fridge and reheat portions as needed...seemed to last forever and grow when I wasn't looking. That put me off oatmeal for a while but I found I can face it again only 1 bowl a day right now.

My supply seems to be slowly increasing. I was able to pump an extra couple of ounces today between feedings. However Finn is still acting weird while breast feeding...pulling away a lot like he is finished but then cries and acts hungry later. If I offer him a bottle of breast milk he sucks it down. I don't know if I should stop using bottles for a while to get him to stay on the breast longer because I don't want him to think if he holds out he can get a bottle eventually. We are still using slow rate nipples on bottle so it can't be that much easier.
