Last night was very hard though, as no matter how much I fed him he was still hungry. It finally got to a point around 8PM that I actually had to give him a bottle of BM that he was meant to have today while I was at work, because after three feedings in one hour there was nothing else coming out of my breasts. It was the very first time I had ever given him a bottle myself, and I didn't like it very much, but he was so hungry. He ate 2oz out of the bottle before finally dozing off to sleep (then waking again around 10PM to eat AGAIN, but thankfully I had more milk by then). Has that ever happened to any of you? Have you ever been "sucked dry" by your baby and they still want more? Is it just a growth spurt?

Sounds like you have a cluster feeder on your hands . Could be a growth spurt too... who knows. My friends' baby did this routinely but the "reward" is he pretty well slept through the night. I don't know what your daily supply is like but I always make least milk in the evening and most over night, so that would suck. I hope T doesn't keep doing that and that it's just a growth spurt!

I've thought about doing this a couple of times before I had a stash of BM in the freezer (which is down to just 20oz now!), as I have about 15 cans of formula that I got for free just from joining the various formula coupon clubs! Part of me wants to just go ahead and donate them so that they won't be there for me to fall back on lol!

Thankfully he only did this that one night, and he seems to be back on track. He does like to cluster feed though, when I work a day shift, when I get home late afternoon. Thankfully though usually I have enough milk to get him through that!

Katie, I used to work at a licenced daycare center and breastmilk had to come ready to go in the bottles. We could warm it in a cup of water of course, but couldn't be defrosting, pouring into bottles, general "handling" of the breastmilk since it's a bodily fluid. So definitely ask what their policy is before sending frozen bags.

What are you all wearing as far as bras and nursing tanks? I just wear nursing tanks...but, if I'm out of the house, it's not really enough support. Do you were a nursing bra, and THEN a nursing tank?! I only have 1 nursing bra and I hate it.
Elle - I'm sorry you have had such a rough time. Sorry I haven't been around to offer you more support.

At my daycare we can bring frozen milk but I bet the daycare just hasn't read up on the state policy about it. If I am still pumping when I go back I'll take it in bottles instead.

And speaking of pumping, my little hospital stay has decreased my supply by half I think. I'm only pumping every 12 hours now because of the pain I'm in and I'm staying so groggy. I increased my water in take since coming home but I'm still pumping the same amount after 12 hours that I pumped every 6 hours...so its about half what it was. Makes me a little sad.

I talked to the pedi and the lactation consultant about Kara while I was in the hospital. (Yeah, I'm feeling like death and I'm in the hospital bed calling the pedi about a fussy baby for my family that is watching her, lol). Kara only nurses a little and pops off. She still isn't an awesome nurser and she stays gassy. The LC told me its because she is only getting the foremilk which is all carbs and none of the hindmilk that is the fatty part. They told me I need to just pump and bottle feed (which we have done since Sunday) or I have to pump and then feed, which I have tried a few times. Unfortunately I am hurting so bad in my incisions that I can't nurse her much because of the pressure she puts on me. So for now I have no idea what will happen with our nursing relationship or my pumping career. I don't feel like forcing it but I'm not ready to give up...maybe once I'm off the drugs I can think more clearly.

Gee I missed that you are in the hospital Jenn! So sorry to hear that and that you are feeling like crap. Ryan sort of does the same thing. Nurse a few minutes, fall asleep. But when I tried to convince him to take more he'd scream! It's so frustrating, isnt it?

Jenn, if you start pumping every 2-3 hours AND continuing to feed Kara your supply should come back up to what it was. You basically have to trick your body back into producing what it used to, but you can do it, it just takes some perserverance!! It will also help if you take some Fenugreek, and you said you're drinking lots of water, so that helps, too! I hope things get easier for you!

Well, we were doing better - on the formula, his poop changed to normal again and the blood was gone. However, he wanted the breast so bad and cried ALL DAY LONG. He also started disliking his formula and refusing the bottle more and more. I was getting run ragged between making formula, feeding, soothing and pumping... I cried every day and was a zombie. I finally caved and gave him the boob, and he nursed like a champ! I was ecstatic! But after 2 days we are back to the crying during feeds, and blood in the diaper. I am at a complete loss. I have been dairy free for 2.5 weeks (completely - even hidden dairy) and soy free for 1.5 weeks. I will try a total elimination diet next, which is going to be so hard! I just want to cry every day when I feed him. How can it be that he just won't tolerate my breastmilk??

Elle, what does the pedi have to say? I can understand an intolorance of some sort, but I've never heard of blood in the stool?? After doing some research, there are two simple expinations for this to happen: either the blood came from your own nipple because of a crack of some sort (which I doubt, as I think you would have seen and felt that) or baby could be straining while pooping and causing his own bum to bleed. If you don't think it's either one of those things, I would maybe get a second opinion from another pedi, just to be safe.
