No, it's not poison to babies. However, caffeine is metabolized much slower in babies that it is in adults. It takes babies a lot longer to get it out of their system than it does for us.

I gave it up when I was pregnant but it wasn't hard for me because I only used to drink one cup in the morning and am not a pop drinker. I started drinking decafe and that's still what I do. I just like the taste and don't miss the caffeine. I did have one caffeinated cup while nursing at around 7pm one night, and Evan was wiiiiide awake until midnight! I couldn't figure out why at first! I have read that if you consumed caffeine while pregnant, your baby is not as affected by it after being born and being exposed through breastmilk. Their system is more used to it.

i can't imagine not having caffine.

THIS!!! With 3 kids, it's almost a NEED for me. I have 2 cups of coffee in the morning, and a diet Big Red (made with splenda instead of aspertame) for lunch and my recomended gal of water the rest of the day. Matt still takes 1 decent nap in the morning and cat naps in the car as we run to the store, dr's appointments, wherever.

I never gave up coffee either. I have had one a day throughout pregnancy and up till now with BFing. I never have more than one a day anyway, and i've been told that limited quatities are fine.

I never gave it up this time but I do limit it to 1 cup (ok sometimes 2 cups) a day. With DS I couldn't have any caffeine, even chocolate!, it wired him up.

    Dr. pepper doesn't have caffiene!
