Ok so my boobs are KILLING me. I am literally almost in tears because it hurts to nurse, I really don't know if it's a latch issue or not, his lips LOOK right, so if there's a problem it is tongue related. I have considered thrush, but heard that hurts deep in the tissue, and my pain is right under the surface all over, and kind of feels like it's on fire. It does itch, still hurts for a while after nursing, and is worse on one side. Hunter also doesn't have the telltale white tongue spots that accompany thrush.

Any ideas what's going on here?

Maybe it is the start of thrush.....didn't you say that you went to a LL group? I would give them a call and ask if it could be......

Everyone has different symptoms of colds/flu...etc....so it would be the same if it were possibly thrush....just could be effecting both of you differently, since not everyone has the excact same symptoms...does that make sense.....

Make sure IF it is thrush, that you boil your nipple shield and the parts that touch your nipple from your breast pump.....you can also put some vinegar in your dishwater, and that will help kill any bacteria that could be there. It acts like bleach, but is natural and safe for baby! If he has thrush too, if you do use a bottle, same goes for his nipples and pacifiers, make sure that you kill all the bacteria with the boiling and or vinegar.

Oh, and start eating you some yogart asap! Just in case it is that! Helps regulate the yeast in your system!

I had similar problems with my daughter and actually decided to pump because of all the pain. The lactation consultant said she had a shallow latch and wasn't latching on to the areola just the nipple! My son had trush but breastfeeding didn't really hurt except the initial latch one. Maybe mastitis or an infection? I hope you feel better soon!

So I started taking Fenugreek... and some days I forget to take it. I can definitely tell when I DO take it. It works!

OperaDiva - Are you using any nipple cream before and after each feeding?

Do you smell like maple syrup? I have heard that it makes you smell like that! Not a bad thing....just I guess YOU notice....KWIM. There is also a mother's milk tea....I used to mix it with those flavored water mixes (like the single serve ones....like crystal light, the ones made for your water bottles) just so that it tasted better!!

No I haven't been using nipple cream. Starting to think maybe it is a latch issue, because he's nursing right now and it doesn't hurt. Can he really have latch issues with the shield though?? I guess it must be possible, and the times it hurts my nips I get funky looking blisters along the nipple and above in a straight line that looks like he bit me with his gums. Guess I should probably try to find a LC to help me fix my latch. The LLL leaders should be able to get me in touch with a good one, right?

I don't pump every three hours at work....if I did, I could not work! I pump 1 time. luckily, I am pumping what he needs, but if I weren't, I am doing what I can....KWIM. Every little bit of BM helps. Remember BF is NOT all or nothing.....perfectly fine to supplement if that is what makes life eaiser!!

Drinks tons of water, and I always eat oatmeal after I pump....since it is a supply booster!
I am not back to work fully until Monday. I'll pump at work for sure. The good thig is I can close and lock my office door to pump. At home with Marisa and the twins, I just can't seem to balance pumping every 3 hours, playing with marisa and keeping the twins happy (they ALWAYS cry when i pump. I'm not joking)

Do you just pump or do you feed them off the breast too? Just asking cause Ky drained me, and I was not able to have any stash before returning to work...I never had the time to attempt to pump with him and G around......at least 1 of the demanded attention at all times, I can't imagine with twins!! The only time I could do that would be if I pumped during his 5 hour stretch of sleep and well, I NEEDED MY SLEEP TOO! So not happening!!!

I have attempted to pump with Ky around, and well, HE GETS MAD! Cried the entire time too, then wanted to eat, and well, just pumped, so I had to feed him what I pumped and it was just a big ole mess......

It probably is a latch issue, but the nipple cream will help relieve the pain
