No advice, but I did want to say don't quit! I think nursing even one time a day gives the baby valuable antibodies that will keep her healthy and be so good for her. I am right there with you wishing she would nurse more, but every little bit counts.

Well, we haven't given up although she's still not latching on. I have been pumping everything she eats....what a massive pain. I have so much more respect for the pumpers out there! We have an appointment with a Lactation Consultant tomorrow. We'll see if she thinks we can salvage the latch/breastfeeding. I hope so, but who knows.

I've lost count, Bonita. I'm guessing 5 or 6, all in the last 2 months. I never had this much trouble with them when pumping for DS, but then, I didn't have as much supply either. I'm really wondering if there is something more going on. The nips are starting to really burn after pumping (especially first thing in the morning), and the L way more than the right. I'm doing some research on kellymom to see if I can get an idea what is going on. My doc is in Haiti right now, but I have an appointment with Aly's Pedi next week and maybe I can ask the LC while I'm there. She's not super versed with pumping issues but does know some. This pain almost sounds like thrush, but not quite...there are some other things that match the what I feel more closely. And those would make sense because I pumped A LOT trying to clear plugs and I bet I traumatized the poor nips some. Like I said, still researching. If I weren't so darn stubborn, I'd kick the pump to the curb and be done with it. But I want Aly on breastmilk. I see all these kids around us with serious illnesses...RSV is running wild around here and the most she's been getting is colds. I want to keep it that way!

oh yeah, btw, I hand expressed 3 oz out of that plug yesterday! I've hand expressed some before, but never anywhere near that much.

Breast milk does make a HUGE difference with the little ones not getting sick. Is it possible that you have Mastitis? EP this long is huge. I thought 2 or 3 months was a really long time to pump. You can do it. Even as your baby starts baby food soon, the amount he will eat will be less, so you could start pumping less.

Bonita, it's possible, but I really don't think I have mastitis. I don't have any other symptoms and physically feel fine. I could have thrush though. Not sure how, but who knows. I do know that I had some super long pumping sessions while trying to clear those initial plugs, which caused a lot of tenderness and cracks. Once the cracks are there, candida can be an issue. DH just picked up some Genetian Violet for me to try. I'm wondering if it's that or just plain old nipple trauma from the long sessions. The early morning session, when I'm really full, is the worst. I hurt for over an hr after that session this morning. That's also my longest session of the day because it seems to take a good 25 minutes at least to get it all out. My regular 20 minute or so sessions throughout the day only have a few minutes of pain after. I think the larger shields helped at first to clear things out, but now they seem too big and cause pain further back. I'm trying out different combinations of size, suction strenth, session length, etc to see if I can find my groove again. And of course, with all this going on, I can't donate, so my freezer is exploding again.

I will get through this and continue on. She will be on BM for a year. I'm stubborn like that. LOL.

Are you planning to figure out how much of a stash you need to get you through to one year. How much longer would you need to pump to have enough milk to get you through to the one year mark?

You are doing such a good job. That said, I am SO THANKFUL that Caitlyn is BFing at least some of the time now.

I plan to be done pumping when she's 10.5 - 11 M old. I still have over a month's worth in my freezer, even with donating (and yes, I've been rotating stock...we've made it into October's milk now). She's a 36 oz/day girl on average right now, but I know that will change as she eats more solids. I had made my calculations based on DS's average of 30 oz/day, so we'll see where I am as the time draws closer (4 months and she'll be turning 10 months already! ) But I do hope to be done early and still have her on EBM for a full year. My supply is taking a hit though. I think I got approximately 49 oz today (rough math since I didn't track it). I was hitting 56 regularly. That's a full bottle's worth. Still more than I need though, so I'm not going to complain!

Thank your for the support. I appreciate it.
