    Default Potty Training Tips

Anybody wanna start a tip thread with advice about potty training? BTDT moms chime in please! What's worked/working? Pullups vs. regular underwear? Night time training? Helping boys aim? Spill the beans on it all!

Caleigh was scared of the potty at first, she would "no, no, no" a lot when I put her down on it. It definitely took a lot of talking it through and practice runs before really trying it.

We found the classic "training" pants in 18 month size (for those with small fries) at KMart! They were the only ones who carried the smallest size. I also found Elmo undies there.

Buy LOTS of undies! In our first day, we've gone through 5 pairs before afternoon nap time.

We're not doing rewards other than praise. I personally think it might set up expectations that are hard to break later on.

I haven't really started with Jamie yet, but I have helped, if not done it all myself with a lot of kids I have babysat for. We will be working with a kitchen timer.. every so many minutes in real underwear. I *hate* pull-ups. It goes back to working in daycares and having to take off a child's shoes to get their pull up off and the hate has grown over the years. We will start in the next few weeks. We are taking a break from big boy things after all the big things this week lol.

We will do * potty snacks*. It has worked wonderfully with daycare/babysitting kiddo's so I will use it with him too. Usually just a gummy bear or something.

We plan on getting him a potty after he turns two. So I have no tips or advice at all, but I would love to hear what has/hasn't worked for others. Great idea Beth!

I look forward to hearing everyone's advice on this topic!!
I feel like Olivia was more interested in the potty deal when she was ONE than she is now at TWO! I've heard not to push them if they're not ready, but wonder, how do I know if she's really ready??? Maybe I'm just holding back because I feel like I have NO clue what I'm doing when it comes to potty training!!

I have to keep a supply of whatever makes Mariah happy around near the potty. Because it will be enough to distract her so she sits and stays put until she is done. She's liked crayons, books, sometimes Playdough, today she liked her toy boat to hold onto. I usually get her to use it first thing in the morning and usually if she has to poop. Is she close to being fully trained? I doubt it. I don't feel that we are ready for the training pants stage yet. She can be pretty active and really want nothing to do with the potty most of the time.

    M&M's!

Don't even worry about nighttime or naptime training at this point. And don't use pullups at night. It's more cost effective to use diapers and the pullups could leak.

Which is better, the potty seat that snaps on top of the regular toilet or their own potty chair?

It's both a chair and a potty that fits on the toilet. But the music is freaking LOUD!!! And then you walk around with these stupid little songs in your head
