Reed's memorial yesterday *JULY2007*
I honestly tried to post something about it last night, but I was just so drained by the time I had a chance, it didn't turn out right.
It was a beautiful service, and I do hope there's some pictures of the bubbles to share with everyone, cause I really can't do it justice! The park was just gorgeous, it was the first time I'd been there, and it was so perfect with the weather and setting and everything. There were easily a hundred visitors there to be a part of it.
There was a display of pictures on a big screen TV, all set to music like a slideshow. And then lots of people making speeches and singing for Reed. Skyler read a letter he wrote to Reed, as well as one of his sitters. One of the most touching for me, knowing what everyone on the boards was up to yesterday with the bubbles, was a little story one of their friends told everyone.
He said that Skyler had been asking questions about when people die- what happens, where are they, why is their body still here- like any child would. I guess he wasn't happy with any explanation they came up with until they told him it was like soap. A bar of soap is just a lump, just there, doesn't do much. Until some wind is blown into it to make it a bubble, give it life and energy. Then eventually, the bubble will pop, as all bubbles do, and the soap will fall back to earth, as a lump and the wind carries on. After this was of course when we blew our bubbles.
After the service, Diane and I went up to give Sarah and Wayne hugs, and finally meet Gardenbug! We visited all together for a while, and then we were talking with Gardenbug and just visitng. Everyone was talking together so well I think we all forgot why we were there. It did feel very lifting afterwards, like it was ok to carry on. Well, I don't think that really explains it well, but I'm sure you get the idea. I only hope Sarah and Wayne and their family feel the same.
I do wish everyone could have been there to share and just be there for Sarah, Wayne and their entire family as well as each other. But, I am glad to have been able to go myself with DH, Kenton and Diane. I do hope that we can see Gardenbug and maybe Sarah again before she goes home, but whatever happens, I'm sure we'll meet up again.
