Share your favorite memory *JULY2007*

The post that babyblues341 made got me thinking... When my maternal grandparents passed away, I was an adult. My family didn't have a traditional funeral for either of them. Instead the family got together and just shared memories of our time with them. Some of the stories were happy, some were touching, some were funny etc. But we all felt like that sharing helped us grieve and heal.

I think since all of us can't be together physically at a memorial service for Reed, we can share our stories here... Kinda like an online memorial service.

So share your memories and favorite stories of Reed, Sarah, and Gardenbug. Hopefully it will help us heal, and be a blessing to the family as well!

One thing that sticks out so well when I think of Reed is him and the hot tub!!!!! I love the pic of him and his daddy chillin in the hot tub when it was freezing outside. He seemed to love the hot tub so much.

I loved the pic of him getting in the marshmellows while camping...they seemed to be having such a great time...enjoying the outdoors.

I keep thinking about the picture of him in the wagon in the snow with Indy dog pulling him. He looked so proud of himself and like such a big boy. And then the video of him recently where he got up on the playground and went down the slide head first all by himself - What a brave little guy he was!

What a great idea. There are a few things in particular that stand out when I think of Reed. One is that he seemed to really enjoy nakie time as I remember several photos of him Smile I also remember, as I posted on another thread, a photo of him digging into a bag of marshamllows on a camping trip, such an adventurous little guy!!

His love for Indy Dog came through in every photo of the 2 of them together. And the pics of Daddy and Reed were always so sweet.

My favorite is when I heard that he was eating perogies!! I love perogies, so it was amazing to me that a little boy would love them so much, as I didn't start eating them until I was an adult.

Also, I love the picture of Reed and Wayne in the hot tub, when Wayne's hair was frozen from the steam.

I love the story of him being attached to a fork or a spoon- I think it's so hillarious! Sarah said that he HAD to have it when eating or he would fuss Smile Mr. Manners!

Also, him going to the bathroom so proudly warms my heart!

I posted on another thread one of my favourite pictures of him was sitting on a car with the hood open with overalls on. It was such a cute picture. He always had a bit smile on his face, such a sweet boy. I love that gardenbug is a part of our board. It's neat to have such a proud grandma on here, she did such a great job on updating us on Reed and showing us all the great pictures of him that were taken.

Oh my there is just so many.

I am really in awe that Sarah would try (and even master) the "art" of having a diaperless baby. I always thought it was crazy, but that's probably b/c I have never heard of it. She really opened my eyes to trying things that arn't the "norm".
The making bread while in labor makes me laugh everytime!

Gardenbug, I think, was a blessing in disguise to this board. Not only was she albe to connect with her daughter and grandson across the country and not feel like she's missing things in their lives, but she also took the time to help us too. She truly knows EVERYTHING, and knows what to say at just the right times.

And little Reed. I will miss seeing his baby bum in all those pics. Playing with Indy dog, with toys. Everywhere with no pants. That smile could melt anyones heart. And that pic of him dancing at that festival, and making the scrunched nose,
My Favourite pics though, is the one when they all went out for a walk, and Reeds face peeking out of his fathers coat. I'm sure they will treasure that picture, among all the other forever.

We will miss you Reed Aslan.

Oh I loved that pic of him in Wayne's coat all snuggled and warm on a walk!

Gardenbug is our board Grandma - I've still got grandparents alive but some of you don't, and she was like our online grandma. She always had a good answer for everything.

I loved that mechanic pic too - Reed looked like he was really getting down to business fixing up the car!

I found this collage pic that gardenbug posted a while ago. Remember with Reed's different faces?

This is also when she explained the diaper free routine.

I love her siggy pic of him going down the slide head first!! He was so happy in all those pictures at the park that day. The hot tub picture was awesome too. I couldn't help but laugh at that. He really looked like he was enjoying himself. All the pictures of Reed showed how happy of a little boy he was!

Gardenbug truely was our board grandma. She always did offer good advice and sometimes a diff point of view.

Reed truely will be missed. One thing I can say for sure is that when Sarah posted pics, they were some of my favorite pictures to look at. They were always doing something adventurous, and Reed always looked like he was really enjoying himself!

I think the every pic I have ever seen of Reed shows his sweet lil personality. The hot tub pic and the marshmellow pics I believe by far were my favorite.

You all have posted about so many of my favorites already, as well as some I'd forgotten, like the collage. As I think about it, I don't think Sarah and Gardenbug necessarily posted as MANY pictures as a lot of us do, but each one was so unique and special!

A recent one that comes to mind is Reed enjoying a big, fresh raspberry! It inspired me to go out and buy some, but let's just say that some people in my house aren't as adventerous as Reed when it comes to food, so I had to eat them all myself. Smile

How about the one down on the beach walking in the light from the sunset? And I loved the one recently from the Folk Festival with the balloon hat!

A lot of great pictures and memories of reading posts about Reed and how happy he always was.

I had forgotten at the time but the pic of his grandfather playing the guitar to him was a cute pic too. Looks like he was his grandfather's heart too.

The memory that sticks out most in my mind is actually the day of Reed's birth. I remember Sarah coming here to post that she was in labor, but she was going to get a loaf of bread started in the bread maker before the midwife arrived...lol. I think it exemplifies Sarah's ability to carry on with life at all times and reflects the warmth and stability that baby Reed received from his parents.

This is the one that comes to my mind too -him all bundled up with Daddy. So cute.

In all his pictures, he always looks so vibrant and happy. And it has been so fun to have Gardenbug fill in the gaps when Sarah doesn't get to post very often. I know my mom is a proud grandma, but I think Gardenbug could definitely give her a run for her money!

I was remembering one Gardenbug posted recently, where he was in a swing at a park, it was a closeup of him and you can see the joy in his face.

Those are all so precious, got be bawling all over again, I just can't belive he's gone.

I too love the one of him in his daddy's coat.

I remember Reed as being a fun, unique, happy little adventurer(sp)...I wish we could all see what he would have grown up to be.

What a bunch of great memories!!! The raspberry one was just too cute...he was so 'involved' in eating those suckers. He made me crave raspberries for days! The hot tub one was cute, too...as was the adorable look on his face when wearing the balloon hat. Such a personality!!!

Reed is truly is a special little boy. I also enjoy the picture of him tucked in his daddy's jacket to keep warm. Shows the bond that they share and that picture of Sarah and him walking down the bridge. All the stories and pictures that both Sarah and Marie shared on this board was something I always looked forward to reading. He will be missed greatly.

My favorite one was the picture of him eating scrambled eggs, and he had them all over, but he looked to be having so much fun! I also loved that he carried a spoon or fork around with him because my son likes to do that too.

I have always been so amazed by how smart Reed was. Sarah and GB would often post about the amazing things that he was always doing!

I think my two favorite pics happen to be the one of him and his daddy in the hot tub and also the one of him and dad old cold snoozing in the tent from their camping trip.

What a great way for us to remember such a vibrant lilttle man.

Someone already mentioned my favorite-the one of him in the bumbo, having the guitar played for him. I had forgotten about the winter walk shot. What a full, short life. He sure had a list of great experiences...

I was amazed whenever I would read about him going to the potty already! Such a big, smart boy! I love the recent pic of him going down the slide head first. I watched that video and just thought, "that boy has no fear". He was so adventurous, so full of light and life. Oh great, now I have myself tearing up again. He will be sadly missed.

The scrambled eggs pic is the one that sticks in my mind too, as well as the rasberrie and the mechanic pic. He was such a vibrant little boy!!!!

I couldn't agree more! The very first thing that pops into my head when I think of Sarah and Reed is that day she gave birth! I've given birth 5 times naturally and don't think I ever had it in me to bake bread whil laboring! LOL If I could pick one person I know person/virtually to give "Mother of the Year" award to, hands down it would go to Sarah! Their way of thinking and parenting I envy so much. Reed was surely never for a moment with love, compassion and a great family!

The guitar pic of him and grandpa is another of my favs.... oh how he looked like he was memorizing every move.

gardenbug ~ I agree... resident grandma! I have only ever known on of my granparents (my dad's mom) and I surely envied little Reed for having the dedicated, loving grandma that I had growing up (and sadly can't have anymore as she's not well). gardenbug is the icon for what all grandparents should be!

I could go on and on but those are the first memories that pop into my head. Oh the potty training.... that always got me to! So proud...both parents and Reed! This is a family I would love to be just like! I wish I had the patience they have... death can't end a bond like that...it will only make it stronger.

I have bragged (for Sarah) so many times about Reed being "diaperless". What an amazing accomplishment! I giggle a little every time I think about Sarah telling the story about being a in a department store and running into the bathroom with Reed crying because he had to pee....of course all of the other shoppers were staring!

What an amazing mom!

I love all the pics but I am now bawling :crybaby: I can't believe that sweet little boy that was so full of life is gone Sad I loved all the pictures and always loved seeing them. The raspberry ones stick out the most though - he found the bush too! What a darling. Sarah -he lived a beautiful, loving short life!

And gardenbug - you are the best - you welcomed me as the grandma of the board and you certainly are - thankyou for being the proudest grandma out there!

My favorite was him and his Daddy hanging out in the hot tub together in the freezing cold with little icicles hanging on stuff like mustaches! lol Biggrin That is one of the main images I see when I think of Reed. That and him and Sarah walking holding hands at the folk festival. So much love radiating from all the pictures they shares here... Sad I still can't believe he is gone...

I had completely forgotten about the pictures of Reed and Dad in the hot tub and in Dad's jacket, but they were some of my favorites, too.

Anyone remember the pregnancy cast that Sarah & Wayne made when she was pregnant with Reed? She took pictures of the belly cast and had the plaster up around her neck, etc. It was so unique. I keep thinking about those pictures, too, of Reed even before he was born.

I loved looking at pictures of Reed, he really was so utterly adorable.

I remember Sarah's birth story better than anyone else's. She did such a great job telling the story that I could actually picture the hot tub, & everything (well not EVERYTHING) just like a movie.

I've always loved Gardenbugs posts, as she has a completely different perspective than any one of us... and she is never wrong! Just like my mom Smile

I remember Sarah & Wayne as the parents who took a different approach to a lot of things, and did such an incredible job, that I was truly awestruck. The diaperless baby, baby eating curry & all kinds of different foods.

Little Reed will be missed by more people than anyone I have ever known.
