Oh man, last night was awful!! I started around 7:30pm and rocked her to sleep. I went and put her in her crib. I think it was about 5 min she woke up. I let her fuss a little and when she started screaming I went and got her. I nursed/rocked her back to sleep. I think I did this 3 times. Then I tried just leaving her in her crib and standing next to her. I kept shushing and rubbing her face every time she started to fuss. I think I stood there a good 30 min until she was finally wide awake and screaming. I tried 1 more time to rock/nurse her to sleep and lay her down. She stayed asleep in her crib maybe 20-30 min and then was awake screaming and I had just dozed off so I went and got her and brought her to bed with me. I think by then it was around midnight and I was exhausted.

I am going to try again tonight and hopefully it goes a little better.

Oh and yesterday I also would go put her in her crib every time she fell asleep nursing and she did take a couple of good naps, maybe 45 min to an hour each. So I think I will keep up with that.

And 1 more thought is that I really need to get something set up today for white noise because I think that will help her.

This is so true! I think it relaxes me as well and the baby senses that. Whatever the reason, it really helps!

Dina goes to sleep well with her paci, my problem is that she wakes up every 2 to 3 hours for feedings. How do I get her to stop that? I am not comfortable with CIO, and I feel that if she's hungry then of course I'm going to feed her, right? My pediatrician said that at this age, she is just waking up because of bad habits and that she shouldn't have to wake up that often for feedings.
    Any advice, ladies?
Knowing whether or not to feed them, is what I struggle with. I don't want them to be hungry, but like you said, it could just be waking (and wanting to eat) out of habit rather than hunger.

I was so happy to see this thread and look forward to seeing everyone's sleep improve! We don't usually have a problem putting Elle down to sleep. Some nights she will sleep all nights, others it's horrible with how often she wakes up. We have tried CIO (especially for naps) and it's horrible and can go on forever even with me going in to check on her. I look forward to hearing everyones ideas and trying different things!

We had a horrible night last night..i dont know what was up with her?! first, it was hard to get her down...but she woke up at 11...11:40...12:20 then finally got a bit of a stretch, she was up between 1:30-2..i did feed her at that time..then she woke up again at 4...then 5..6...ahhhhh...it was crazy!!

i am tempted to try CIO, just leave her for short periods of time..and gradually make it longer before i go in...but i dunno, i'm really struggling with it. i want to, but its so hard. hmmm. i do need to figure out something tho, i dont thikn she should be waking so many time thru the night..and i'm pretty sure its just out of habit, and that she just cant get herself back to sleep. she barely eats when i finally do offer the boob, she drifts off pretty quickly back to sleep....so i figure she cant be hungry..jsut looking for some help.

this is a great thread, glad it got started...its nice to hear some advice and see what everyone is trying!!

I really need some tips or advice on naps. We do really well most nights with Caden sleeping nine hours!!! But he is really not napping anymore, at least not without me. And when he is with me he will sleep about two hours or so.

I've got the book Good Night, Sleep Tight....., and haven't really gotten to the meat of the book yet. I'm having a problem with the sleep window. It seems Cade is showing signs of tiredness about an hour after he wakes, but I just can't get him to nap anymore. It took me a full hour to get him to sleep for a morning nap today. And, in reference to napping with me: he's been awake for just over an hour now, after a two-hour nap, and is showing all his normal signs of tiredness. Any thoughts?

For us, the napping came when I got onto a fairly strict schedule. I set an alarm and, even if Leo is sleeping soundly, we get up at 6:30am. This is aweful, of course, after a night of being up 8 times. LOL. But, I trust that it will get better. Decide when naps are (for us it's 2 hours after wakeup, and 3 hours after first nap, for a total of 2 naps and 4 hours of napping), and don't leave the room until he's had a nap. As he learns to fall asleep he will fall asleep faster and faster.

For us, naps are easy now. Last week I had to stay with him and rub his scalp and hold his hand while he fell asleep. Later in the week it changed to me just sitting next to the crib without touching while he fell asleep. This morning all I did was put him in the crib, say 'night night' and leave. He fell asleep without a peep.

Mind you, bedtime is it's whole new set of issues. LOL! He falls asleep on his own at 7pm. He wakes at 8pm to nurse. Then he sleeps until 10pm when I feed him again. Wakes again at 12. Wakes again at 2. Wakes again at 3:30. Wakes again at 5. Up for the day at 6:30. That was last night for me. Uggggg. Most nights are typical of this or have more feedings. He's been known to go 30 minutes before waking again.

I'm hoping that as he learns to fall asleep on his own that he'll start putting himself to sleep when he wakes in the middle of the night to eat. I don't want to be the one to cut out night nursing because my active effort in that helped lead to my daughter weaning earlier than I would have liked...and our goal is 2 years of nursing. I want him to take the lead, but it's hard when I'm not getting much sleep.

It's especially hard now because he's in a crib. I can't just roll over and dozily put a boob in his mouth. I have to get out of bed, sit in a chair to nurse, and then get back in my bed. *sigh* I'm feeling especially tired today.

Leo is napping great, Emily. It won't be long before that carries over the nights as well.

    How was everyone else's night?

We actually had a really good night. Elijah has been sleeping more soundly and waking less and less (not rolling over and waking himself). I put him to bed at 9:45, which is early for us... 10:30, when I go to bed, is the norm. Anyways, he didn't wake until 7am! And I slept well too, instead of tossing and turning all night like I usually do. I fed him and put him back to bed and he slept about 45min more. Enough time for me to shower, start the laundry, organized for the day.

Elijah and Leo are doing great!

Last night I nursed her to sleep around 7:30pm. I laid her in her bed and she immediately woke up screaming. So I let her cry a minute and then got her. I nursed her back to sleep and put her in her crib. I think it was about 10-15 min later she woke up screaming. So I went in there and I picked her up and calmed her and laid her back down because she was not really awake. She likes to sleep on her side so I laid her down on her side and patted her bum and she was asleep. About 5 min later she started crying. I went in there and rolled her back to her side and patted her bum until she was back asleep. I think I had to do this about 3-4 times. It was around 8:30pm when I went in there for the last time. I went to bed about 9:00pm and she woke up at midnight. I went and got her and brought her to bed with me.

So I am pleased that she slept in there for a 3 hour stretch.

We are still doing ok with naps, when she falls asleep nursing I put her in her crib and she will usually sleep 45 min to an hour and usually 2-3 times a day.
