I'll add mine! Here goes......Well he held out for another 5 days, but this morning, January 25th, at 7:18 Braylen Lee Patterson entered into this world. He's a handsome little man if I do say so myself! He weighs 2lbs 3oz and is 13in long....no bigger than a small baby doll! I've never seen anything so tiny and cute. It all started about 3am when I woke up to go pee and was feeling crampy. I thought maybe from sleeping I was a little dehydrated or something so I drank some water and watched a little TV. Well, the pains kept coming and they were pretty strong and pretty close together so I called my nurse. She checked my bp (which had sky-rocketed the day before) and put me on the monitors to see how close the contractions really were since I hadn't been timing them. They were coming about every 4 minutes at this point. Finally the dr. got there around 6am to check my cervix to see if I had dilated anymore since Tuesday.....wouldn't you know it, I was at 7cm. He said at this point, it wouldn't be long. So they decided to move me back over to L&D just in case it was to happen today. By the time I got over to L&D and got situated into the room and on the monitors the contractions were coming about every 2 minutes. The nurse asked me if I would like to go ahead and get an epi, but I refused. I wanted to wait until Seth got to the hospital to be with me. I was doing ok breathing through the contractions anyway. After all this the time sort of passed by without me even realizing it. I was completely dilated by 7am and nobody was here to be with me yet. Seth and mom both were on their way, but hadn't made it yet. Only gave 2 or 3 good hard pushes and he was out and crying! He gave a few little crys and one big one before they stuck the breathing tube down his throat. They said he was doing great breathing on his own but the tube would help him take deep breathes when he needed it to. As of now they're saying it will probably come out tomorrow morning sometime. Everyone was very impressed with how well he was doing to be so little. He's actually a little bigger than most 26 weekers they said. I got to touch him and kiss him before they put him in his incubator and rolled him off to the NICU.

Brooke Allison was born at 1:44 pm on Friday, March 27, 2009.

I got to the hospital at 8 am on the 27th. They got me hooked up to everything by about 9:30, and I was still between a 3 and a 4 at that point. The epidural went a whole lot better than last time. I was feeling good, and the nurse checked me again at 12:30 and I was between 6-7. My doctor came in a little after 1:00 and I was at a 10 and the baby's head was right there. The doctor couldn't believe that I wasn't feeling pressure to push. She got everything ready for push time, and I started pushing at 1:37. Brooke was born 7 minutes later at 1:44. I literally pushed maybe 3 times, and even when I would stop pushing, she continued to come out on her own. At one point, the doctor told me to stop pushing because she was delivering herself! It was an absolutely EASY delivery. I was SO blessed! I had a very slight tear and got 2 stitches.

The "It's a girl!" moment was completely magical -I got really emotional. I can't believe I got exactly what I wanted: a boy first and girl second. I am SO, SO excited to have a little girl! They left her with me for a while, so I got to nurse her about 20 minutes after birth, and she latched well for about 5-10 minutes. It felt sooo good to nurse a baby again!

She weighed 7 lb, 2 oz and was 19 in long. FULL head of dark hair, with a 9 and 9 for her Apgar scores. She looks SO much like her brother did when he was born.

    My new angel

Sorry it's long, I'll edit and do a 'short' version as well next time I'm I have time..hehe. Plus I'll post pics at that time too.

    Kayla’s Birthstory.
    3.26.09
Went in for my 37wk appointment. At first my doctor wasn’t going to check me, but I asked, so he said why not. While we were getting prepped, he spoke about how one of his patients that didn’t speak English was 5cm and he was trying to tell her to head to the hospital but she couldn’t understand. Then he checks me, and says ‘Well you’re not too far along either, you’re at 4.5!’. WHOA! I didn’t think I was that far given the fact I was signing for my epi with Keoni at 3.5cm. lol. Then he checked again, he says, though I think he stripped my membranes. He wanted to see me the next day.

That night we ate dinner at the ILs. I had myself a carne asada burrito. I joked how that put me into labor with Keoni, as I was still crampy from my appointment. Got home at almost 9pm. I was curious about the crampyness so I timed it. Roughtly 5-7mins apart about a minute long…not bad. So I went to bed

Woke up around 12am, still crampy. Decided to watch the clock again. Now they were about 3mins apart, but not too strong. 12:30am, I decided to wake Paul up b/c after we get the car loaded and whatnot, who knows what state I’ll be in. lol. By 1:30 we were dressed, packed up, and Keoni was strapped in. Off to the ILs to drop Keoni off and off to the hospital.

By 2am, they checked me and I was 5.5cm. I was getting admitted. It was a quiet night, but it was like déj* vu seeing the delivery room and getting ready to ‘do this’.

3am they got me hooked up to IV and settled into the room. She asked if I wanted the epi, but amazingly enough, I was still able to just concentrate on something else and I can handle it. After another check and me being already at 6.5cm, I said yes, I should get it. I was dialating pretty quick, and since the ‘check’ is not pleasant, I’d hate to ask for the epi and it be ‘too late’.

4am the epi was in place and I was able to rest up. It was nice to be able to gear up for the upcoming event. The nurse let us rest for about 2 hours before another check. So by 6am I was 7.5cm.

    Not much happened so quickly..

8am I was 8cm. My doctor came by to see how I was doing and said since I was at the homestretch he’d like for me to dialate to 10 on my own, no pitocin, or water breaking.

9:40am I was 9cm. Keep in mind my water had not broken yet! So all we were waiting for was that last cm.

It wasn’t til 1:10 that they decided to break my water! AHHH It was such a LONG WAIT! Once the waterbroke, I can feel the contractions getting stronger through the epi. It was happening. FINALLY!
1:40pm my doctor shows up to see how things are going. I was checked at was complete! Everyone started getting ready for my first contraction at 10 and for me to push. My doctor IS (not was, IS) AWESOME! He was a great coach getting me to push her out! He didn’t even want to sit down! He just yelled, ‘OK, NOW PUSH’…’YES, LIKE THAT!!! Keep it going, keep it going, deep breath, AND AGAIN PUSH!!!’ That just motivated me and guided me well into this. Next contraction was the same. I could feel her coming b/c my epi was not AS effective by this point. He told me to stop, and slow down for a moment, letting me ‘stretch’ and not rip. ‘Push just a little’, so I did. I felt her head come through…WOW. ‘Push a little more…’ and then I felt the shoulders. One more big push and she was OUT! 1:49pm SHE WAS BORN!

AMAZING! That’s all I had to say. I can’t believe it went that quick and that well.

Her scores were 9 and 9! She was a screamer! Lol.

Since I’ve found a few quiet minutes now that William and Mike are snuggling and Anna is asleep, I thought I’d give a few details about our big guy’s birthday and how he joined us.

Even though William’s due date wasn’t until April 14th, our doctor said that based on how I was progressing that we would probably have a March baby. On Thursday I was checked and was at 3cm. Friday, I had a few mild, unpredictable contractions, but on Saturday, March 28th, I woke up and started having some steady contractions about 10-15 minutes apart. We timed throughout the morning and during DD’s nap, but they were still around 10 minutes apart and not too painful. We called a friend to come over and play with DD so that we could walk around the mall for a bit, and that proved to kick things into a good pattern, so when we got home, we were close to the 5-minutes for 1 hour requirement of our doc. After checking with the OB, we went over to the hospital at about 5:30pm for observation, not sure if we'd be staying. On the monitor, the contractions were regular (3-4 minutes apart), and getting stronger, though dilation was going slowly (now at 4cm). We walked around the hospital a bit and after making a little more progress (up to 5), our doctor offered to break my water to speed things up. This was the point of no return and we agreed to have my water broken (this was at about 8pm). Things happened very quickly from here and the contractions were extremely fast, intense, and unrelenting…but also effective. DH was the PERFECT coach and knew just what to say and do to get me through each contraction. I had to labor on my side to get the little guy to turn from being posterior (sunny side up). A little after 10pm, I felt ready to push, and about 5 minutes later, William Michael was out! I’m proud to have been able to deliver medication-free again, and now that it’s said and done, I’m really glad it all happened so fast!

Vital Stats: William Michael, born 3/28/09 at 10:09pm.

Weight: 7lbs, 10.5oz Length: 20.5 inches Dark hair and eyes

From the start he’s been a quiet snuggly guy and a good nurser. He looks a lot like his daddy. Big sister is warming up to him, and has enjoyed calling him “bay-a-bay” and loves to give smooches. Our dog, Elwood, has welcomed him as the new puppy in the pack and spent a good amount of time watching over him in the bassinet last night.

After 2 weeks I've finally finished it! It's very long since I had about 38 hours to cover, so I don't expect anyone to read it all! I posted a pic from the c-section so beware in case you're squeamish about blood and stuff!
    Enjoy!

    The Birth of Bethanna Rhea

    Saturday, March 21, 2009, 4:48 a.m.
I was sound asleep when I felt the tiniest pop and the trickle started. I knew it was my water because I’d just been to the bathroom and hour earlier. I immediately woke Daniel and he asked “are you sure it broke”. Well, I stood up and the gush started so there was no doubt. I continued to lose more fluid with every contraction for the rest of the day.
By 6 a.m. I started to have a few very minor contractions. So minor that I actually had to focus to realizing they were happening. By 8:30 they were getting a little stronger but still not remotely painful. My midwife arrived and checked me and my cervix was so posterior that she couldn’t even reach it. She told me to start walking and if I wasn’t having good strong contractions by noon then to start taking the castor oil. Noon came around and while I was having a few good contractions they weren’t consistent or hard. Well, after 4 oz of Castor oil, things finally started “moving”. Contractions were coming every 5 minutes, lasting about 80 sec. and were hard though I could still walk through them. We continued walking for 30 minutes and “resting” for 30 minutes till about 9pm when I could no longer talk or walk through them and they were painful enough to require me to focus and breath through each one. My midwife checked me again and after a VERY painful minute decided that I was 2-3 cm and 50 % effaced. By this point the contractions were coming every three minutes and last about 90 sec. I rotated through a number of positions to stay “comfortable”. This was our routine until about 1 a.m. when the contractions started to slow down. They were even more painful than before and lasting almost 2 full minutes but they were coming only every 5-6 minutes. At 3 a.m. I’d had enough and got into the tub. The warm water felt SO wonderful and helped to dull the pain. The only problem though is that I only had 4 contractions the hour I was in the tub. It was now 4 a.m. and my contractions had all but stopped, I’d been awake for the last 23 hours and was so exhausted I wanted to cry. I told the midwife I just needed to rest so Daniel and I laid down and slept till 5:15.m. I was awoken by two very strong, very painful contractions that came right on top of each other. We had now reached our 24 hour time limit since my water had broken. My midwife checked me and I was still barely 3 cm and only 75 % effaced. I was so tired, contractions had stopped and now we were worried about infection possibly setting in. So after making some phone calls, my midwife suggested we head to Medical Center of Plano as they were the most likely to allow me to try to have the baby vaginally and not immediately insist on a cesarean.
We arrived to the hospital about 8a.m. and they immediately got me started on an i.v. with antibiotics and by 11.a.m. I had my epidural and was started on the pitocin at noon. From the time we left the house till now, I’d only had 4 contractions. About thirty minutes after the pitocin started I began having contractions. They were coming about every 5 minutes and lasting a minute. The doctor checked me and I was 2-3 cm dilated (had digressed a bit) and still only 75% effaced. Over the next 7 hours, contractions coming every 2 minutes and lasting 90 seconds, on the highest dose of Pitocin possible, and I still only made it to 3-4 cm and 80% effaced. By 8pm Sunday, March 22, my water had been broken for 38 hours and I’d not hardly progressed. It was clear that Bethanna was not going to be coming vaginally and with every hour that passed, my risk (and likely hood) for and infection increased. We all felt it was then time for a c-section. After some time alone with Daniel, and a good cry, we had our parents come in to say a prayer before I was whisked away to the Operating Room at 8:35. And at 8:55 I heard the cries of my newborn daughter, Bethanna Rhea. They told us that she was about to arrive and I told Daniel to stand up and get a picture (he hadn’t wanted to look over the curtain). He looked over and saw them just pulling her head out and snapped a picture of her in the air before they even cut the cord. I was so glad he got that! I knew that if I wasn’t going to get to see the birth of my child then we’d at least get a picture of it! They took her away and I made Daniel follow her even though he wanted to stay with me, but I just couldn’t handle the thought of my baby being in a strange place without mommy or daddy close by. I must’ve dozed off because the next thing I remember is Daniel bringing her to me in the recovery room. I immediately un-wrapped her and put her skin to skin on my chest. She was so alert and staring at me with those big blue eyes. I gave her a little direction and she latched on without any trouble. Everything after this was a blur to me. They let me keep her for a bit before taking her away again. At some point I woke up in a regular room and they were bringing Bethanna back to me. I didn’t let them take her away again unless absolutely necessary for the rest of our stay.
So, how do I feel about wanting and planning a homebirth only to end up with a cesarean and hospital stay? I have NO REGRETS. I know that we did everything possible to get her to come naturally at home. We were then blessed that the hospital and doctors allowed us to try for 12 more hours to get her come, whereas most would have insisted on c-section the moment we’d walked in. She was perfectly healthy and SO alert when she was born and nursed so well that I couldn’t have asked for anything more. The hospital staff, doctors and nurses were terrific and some even apologized to us for not getting the birth we’d wanted. We really could not have asked for a better hospital experience. She’s here safely, in my arms, and that’s what really mattered most. She came just the way God intended!

    Dylan Marley Delilah ********
    Born 3/22/09; 8:12AM; 35 weeks
    4lbs, 11oz; 17 inches

March 15-22 was spring break for me and Michael. Our plans included getting some plants potted, cleaning, and getting ready for Dylan to arrive. She still had 4 weeks until our scheduled c-section but I knew once school started, time would be precious, so I wanted to get as much done as possible. We got our pack and play set up, bassinet ready to go, and washed tons and tons of clothes and blankets. I also packed myself a hospital bag. On Friday the 20th, I got a haircut. I started having a few contractions that afternoon, but I thought they were braxton hicks since I’d been having those off and on for a few weeks. All afternoon and evening I felt them, but they were never regular and would go away for an hour or so at a time. I went to bed hoping they would go away overnight. I woke up two or three times during the night with one, but when I got up and went to the bathroom, they would stop.
Around 5AM Saturday morning, I woke up with a very painful contraction. I thought they would stop, but this time they didn’t. They got worse and closer together as I laid there. I started timing them, and they were 7-10 minutes apart. I woke Michael around 6 and told him. By 7 I called my doctor who told me to go to labor and delivery immediately. Scout was still sleeping and the contractions weren’t extremely painful, so I drove myself and left Michael at home with Scout.
When I got to L&D they were waiting for me. They put me on the monitor and found her heartbeat right away. I was there for a few hours and the contractions lessened. They were showing up on the monitor as “slight uterine irritations” but did not look like contractions. When the nurse checked me, my cervix was “basically closed, but possibly fingertip dilated.” My doctor came by and told me that I could go home, but I would be on bed rest. I asked him if I could go to work on Monday and he said that if the contractions went away it was possible, but if I had any while I was there, I was to come back. So, I went home.
I stayed on the couch most of the afternoon and Michael took care of Scout. The contractions came and went, but weren’t as painful and weren’t consistent. We put her to bed around 6:30. He and I sat down to watch some TV. While sitting there, the contractions started to get bad again. At 8 I decided to go take a bath to try to ease the pain. It helped minimally and when I got out I took some Tylenol and went to bed. I dosed off between contractions but they wouldn’t let me sleep. So I started timing them and they were 4-5 minutes apart. I went downstairs where Michael had fallen asleep on the couch. I woke him up and told him we needed to go to the hospital. We called my doctor first hoping he would say just to rest. He didn’t call back and the contractions were getting pretty bad. So, Michael woke Scout up, we packed her a bag, and left.
When we got to the hospital, once again, they were waiting for me. I guess my doctor had called them and told them to expect me. I went back to the triage room again where they put me on the monitor again. The heartbeat was clear and strong. They checked me and I was dilated to 2. The contractions were still showing up as irritations on the monitor. When they told me that I would probably be monitored overnight as a precaution, I told Michael to take Scout and go home. No sense in none of us sleeping. The nurse told me to press a button on the monitor whenever I felt a contraction. So, I started doing that. She came back a while later and looked at the sheet. Said she thought the placement of the monitor may be off and adjusted it. The next contractions were much more obvious on the sheet. She said that since I wasn’t even 35 weeks along, they were going to give me terbutaline to try and stop the contractions. I had to get 3 injections 15 minutes apart and then take the pills every 3 hours until delivery. I was not looking forward to remembering to take a pill so often for 4 more weeks. The terbutaline made me jittery – like I had drank a whole pot of coffee. They got me a bed in a room and left me on the monitor. My nurse asked me if I wanted to take an ambien to help me get some sleep and I agreed.
The next thing I remember is my doctor coming in and checking me. I was 4-5cm dilated and had apparently “broken through” the terbutaline and was still contracting. It was sometime around 7AM on Sunday the 22nd. My doctor said the baby was coming today… very soon, in fact. I was having a repeat c-section and he was concerned about me tearing since my previous delivery was less than 14 months prior. So, I called Michael and told him to get down to the hospital ASAP. I can’t remember if he called my sister or if I did, but we asked her to come keep an eye on Scout at the hospital for us. Then I remember Michael and Scout being there in the room with me. They came to my room soon after and said that the O.R. was ready and it was time. They wheeled me down the hall to the O.R. while Michael waited for Sarah to get there. I sat on the edge of the bed and got my spinal. I remember it hurting more this time than it did with Scout. Immediately they were laying me down and prepping me. I heard them saying that they were still waiting on Sarah so Michael could come in. My doctor said a nurse needed to watch Scout because it was going to happen soon. I was worried that Michael wouldn’t be there. After what seemed like forever, he was there and things got started.
At 8:12AM, Dylan entered the world. She cried immediately and I knew that was a good sign. They put her on my chest and I remember thinking that she had so much dark hair! Then she was gone again. I don’t remember the trip back to my room but by the time I got there my sister had Scout under control. I was told that Dylan was in the Special Care Unit (NICU) because she was having some breathing troubles and was so small. Later we found out that she also had a heart murmur. An echocardiogram revealed that a valve in her heart didn’t close properly and that’s what was causing the murmur. I didn’t get to hold her again for 2 days and it was so painful to go look at her but not be able to pick her up.
She has been steadily improving every day. Now, 2 weeks later, she is still in Special Care, but is gaining weight, no longer needs help breathing, and is eating more. We are hoping to take her home soon.

Kalean Michael born April 3rd 2009 at 8:25pm
    weight: 8lbs even
    Length: 21.5" long

Wednesday 4/2 I had mild menstrual-like cramps throughout the day but nothing like a contraction or anything timable. Thursday I had the same mild cramps early on but they would come and go. By mid afternoon they were a little stronger and I started timing how often they came which was roughly every 25-40 minutes. They stopped at one point and then came back again after an hour and a half. By 11pm they were coming at least every 15 minutes. By 1am they were every 5 minutes apart so I called the doc saying we would eventually be in and took a shower. I relaxed at home for a while, the contractions got worse. We arrived at the hospital at 5:30am. I was admited and was at 2cm.

I will fill in the blank when I have time, sorry!

I ended up with a c-section because he has a very large head and I have a very narrow pelvis according to my surgeon. I pushed for hours and hours unmedicated but I was in so much pain after that much time and I was so exhausted that I couldn't push anymore. I refused the c-section for a long time but towards the end his heartbeat was dropping dangerously after each contraction and especially after each push. I decided that my ideal birth would have to take a backseat to him, I was so upset and crying my eyes out about the section at the time, my docs were so great and left it completely up to me and tried so hard to prevent the section too. The surgery itself was horrible because I didn't do well with the spinal medication. The first dose didn't work at all, they said I could either try a second dose or be knocked out. I opted for a second dose which miraculously did work but not completely and wore off way too soon. It was a very painful experience to say the least but I was very against being knocked out so I don't regret it. In the end I have a beautiful healthy baby boy, I am over the pain, and my DH and I are absolutely in love. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.

His APGARs were 8 and 9. He was so alert and amazing, I can't get over it. He also latched and nursed like a champ from very early on.

Here are a few shots of him shortly after birth:

Induction was scheduled for 3/30, either 3 days overdue or 4 days early depending on which date was used. For about a week prior I had contractions every 3-5 minutes, not uncomfortable just pressure. Around 1 am on 3/30 the contractions finally picked up and became uncomfortable, felt them mainly in my hips and back. At 3 am the hospital called for the induction, I decided to go in then. Arrived at the hospital around 4:30 am and got registered, there were some issues with this. The system kept printing someone elses paperwork. I got to skip triage and was admitted to L&D. Around 5:30 the nurses finally came in and got the IV hooked up, started penicillin, drew blood and all that fun stuff. Dr checked me, I was 6 cm, 90% effaced, -2 station. I decided to get the epidural at that point. The anesthesiologist came in around 7 to do the epidural. By 7:30 I was not feeling the contractions anymore but was itching like crazy. I had a ton of pressure still like I needed to go to the bathroom. The nurse got me a bedpan, useless since I really did not have to go. My dr came in at 7:55 to check my progress, 9 cm with a lip of the cervix, bag bulging, still -2. He decided to break my water at that point. Allysons head finally dropped down and 10 cms, time to push. Started pushing, the pressure was immense in my hip and butt. Continued to push until 8:50 when I asked if they could just use the vacuum or forceps and get her out, I had enough of the pressure and broke down. Vacuum it was. Her head was hard to get out, then she was stuck at the shoulders. That is when the nurses just grabbed my legs and pushed them back to my head and yelled to push, and push hard. She got stuck one more time at the abdomen before she was out. At 8:59 am she was born, eyes wide open looking around. After the placenta was delivered they checked her out and I got some stitches from a 3rd degree tear. Allyson weighed 9 pounds, 15 ounces and was 21 inches long. She has brown hair with a blond streak on the one side. As soon as she was 24 hours old I asked to be discharged. She was discharged by 10 am, me not until 2 pm and I was not so happy.
