Everything in my pregnancy was going well, until I was 24 weeks along. I went to see my regular doctor because of a bump on my hand, and he discovered that I had high blood pressure. The next day I went to my OB, who was also concerned about the raise in blood pressure from what it had been normally thoughout my pregnancy so far. He sent me to the hospital for some tests and monitoring.

At the hospital, they were concerned about the possibility that I might have preeclampsia. They admitted me over night. That night, a doctor came and told me that I was going to be on bed rest until the baby came. He said I would never make it until term, and at best, I may make it until 36 weeks. I was shocked, as I didn't feel sick at all, and the possibility of spending 12 weeks in bed at the hospital was mind-boggling.

The first week was not very hard. Everything seemed to be going pretty well. I was hooked up to a fetal heartrate monitor 3 times a day for an hour each, so I got to listen to my little girl's heart beat often. And, I got to have an ultrasound each day. It was wonderful to see my little girl every day. The reason I had to have so many ultrasounds was that they discovered that there was a low amount of amniotic fluid, bad blood flow in the baby's umbilical cord, and that she was IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restricted). Basically, she was very small for her gestational age.

The next week started to get harder. It seemed like every day something happened that was a little bit scary. A couple times they found that not only was her blood flow restricted, it was reverse. (it would flow from my baby to the placenta, but then bounce back). Some days her heartrate would dip really low. Other days my blood pressure started getting really high. One day after her heartrate wasn't cooperating, they had to hook me up to an IV. I found out later that the only reason they did that was in case they had to rush me to the operating room for an emergency c-section!

After I had been on bed rest at the hospital for 23 days, I had a really bad ultrasound. They found the reverse blood flow through the entire cord. The doctor put me on continuous heartrate monitoring for the rest of the day and told me that I would be delivering the baby either that day or the next. My husband rushed to be with me and he stayed there the entire day. At about 5:00 pm, my doctor came in and said "Let's go have a baby." She said it would be better to do it that day and NOT have it be an emergency c-section, rather than wait until tomorrow and have it maybe turn into an emergency.

I was hysterical. I was only 27 weeks and 2 days at that point. I knew my baby was still incredibly small. I was scared for her life. I got wheeled over to the c-section rooms, and had to wait a few more hours. About 8:45 they took me to the operating room and gave me a spinal block. It was incredibly painful, and I was still unbelievably scared. When it started working, they laid me down and my husband was allowed to come in and sit by my head.

At 9:13 pm, my precious baby girl, Claire, was born. Apparently she even cried when she came out, but I didn't hear it. She was whisked immediately away. Then my husband went up to the NICU with her, while I went back to recover for 2 hours. My husband came down to be with me after a while, and told me that Claire was 1 lb 4 oz, and 11 3/4 inches long.

I was wheeled up to see her a couple hours later, but I was loopy from medicine and was flat on my back, so I couldn't really see her. The next day when I finally could sit up, I got to go up and see her for the first time. She was beautiful.

All the doctors and nurses have been amazed by her. She only had to be on the ventilator for 10 hours after birth, while most babies her age/size need to be on it for many weeks! Finally after 75 days in the NICU, Claire got to come home. She is gaining lots of weight and is doing excellent.

Although I never wanted her to be born so early and so small, she is amazing. She is my miracle baby.

Soooo.....here goes!

I've been seeing my doctor every month for the past few months, but have been going in every week for a progesterone shot on Fridays in addition to that. Everything was normal last checkup which was just a week and a half ago. I was measuring on target and we had a sono scheduled for next Friday just to check the weight of the baby.

I did mention to the doctor during my last visit that after DH and I had sex the night before, that I was cramping a little, but it more felt like RLP and that the baby's head or butt was pressing against my tummy a lot because of the activity. (lol)

So, Sunday night, I laid down about 11 and tossed and turned because I had that same feeling like the baby was moving hard against my stomach. Those were really contractions, but it's so hard to remember what is what at the end of the pregnancy. Well, after two hours of that, I got up and said I'd better time these contractions just to be safe.

They were so irregular, 15 minutes, 10 minutes, 6, etc apart, so I thought we'd just wait until I could get into the doctor's office on Monday morning to try and stop them or see what he wanted to do. They even lightened up there for a little bit, so I thought it was okay to wait and that they might just be Braxton Hicks. At some points, I was thinking that I could sure use an epidural, even though I wasn't sure it was really happening.

I let DH sleep through all of it pretty much, but by 5 a.m I was so exhausted, I came into bed crying because I was just tired and cranky. He really wasn't sure what to do or actually wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I didn't know either. But then all of a sudden the contractions were like one huge ball of constant pain and I knew something was really really happening! I told him to call 911 and he was running around like crazy on the phone with them, trying to get dressed, getting the big kids up and me yelling at him that I needed him at the same time!

As I was screaming and moaning, Chayse was in her pack n play in our room (I had moved her in there when my stepdaughters came to visit last weekend) and she was imitating my groaning - she thought it was a game, it was SO FUNNY!

My water broke on the bed and then I felt a ton better, the ambulance was on their way, DH was by my side, the kids were cleaning up Chayse's toys in the Living room so the paramedics could get through to me.

They asked if I could walk downstairs and I said no, then I realized they wanted to carry me on my sheet if I couldn't, so I got up...with a t-shirt on only and they put a comforter over me and I went downstairs to the gurney. They took a little bit of time to get organized and I asked if we were leaving yet. Finally, we did and just a few seconds down the road, I felt pressure again on my rear-end, so I knew I was getting close, well then I told the paramedic, but he was trying to get on the phone with the hospital..

All of a sudden, here comes Brett...I couldn't stop the push and reached down and felt his head and then he popped out onto the gurney. I told the paramedic he was here. He hurredly yelled to the driver to stop and then grabbed a bulb syringe to clear his passages. I was really scared to touch him when he first came out, because I wasn't sure if he was okay or not. He did let out a little tiny cry, though, so I knew he was okay. The paramedic put him on me and I held him so they could cut the cord and we wrapped him up a little bit to keep him warm. Dad was in the passenger seat of the ambulance and when they stopped, they got out and when he saw his baby was okay, he let out a huge grin. I don't think I'll ever forget the look on his face with that smile.

We got to the hospital and they took Brett to NICU to check him out. They put me in a bed and the placenta was still needing to be delivered, well that was painful too, just sitting there waiting for the doc to come and deliver it. My body was trying to contract it out and they told me the doctor was 20 minutes out. I was pissed that they were waiting, so finally the expelled it and I was fine after that.

Daddy went to go check on Brett and things were normal after that, as normal as they can be considering!! I got into a room, then I went and saw Brett. He is a little bruised because of the way he was delivered (by mom, not by doctors!) but even that is clearing up. He has such a good color and is on room air with the CPAP now. I am hoping his lungs get up to speed very soon - but I'm just thankful he's not on the vent right now. His BP is a little low this morning, but they are watching that. Today he will get some nutrition because he's probably starving now!

We are so proud that he is a trooper and that he is doing well right now. Of course, it's going to be tough leaving and having him stay up here. I don't even want to think of that right now. But, I know he needs his rest and he really just looks comfy and relaxed, so I know he's doing good. We are lucky he is well enough that he didn't have to be transferred to another hospital, because this one is the small local one, I was surprised to even hear that they had a special care nursery. That's a very good sign that he is able to stay here and recover!

I was laying on the couch at 10:30 on Saturday night when I started feeling mild cramping. I didn't think much of it since it was so mild, but decided to sit up to see if it would continue when I moved. I sat up and felt a huge gush! My water didn't break on its own with Bradley, so it took me completely by surprise! I went to clean up while DH called the OB. She said to head right over, so after my dad got to our house to stay with Bradley, off we went! I had my 1st contraction in the car right after I said "I haven't had any contractions yet!" By the time we got to the hospital, they were about 6-7 minutes apart and pretty light.

We stopped in at the ER since it was after hours, and they wheeled me up to labor and delivery along with another mama-to-be who had come in right behind me and looked and sounded like she was about to give birth in the wheelchair! When we got to L&D, they rushed the other girl in since it seemed urgent while DH and I waited in the hall for my turn to be assessed. I kept having big gushes of fluid, although my contractions had become inconsistent and were still mild. When they finally checked me, I was only at 3-4 cm, but they admitted me since my water had broken.

We got to our labor room at about 12:15 a.m. and they started my IV and hooked me up to the monitors. My contractions started getting pretty painful, so I went ahead and got my epidural since I knew I wanted one eventually. The anesthesiologist was great and had me laughing the whole time, which was a welcome distraction for this needle weenie! After the epidural kicked in, I was really able to relax and just hang out with my family, so my contractions picked up quickly and got very strong. At 3 a.m. they were about 40 seconds apart. My sister asked me when she thought I'd start pushing, and my guess was 8 a.m. But, at 3:45ish my nurse checked me and said "we're ready to have a baby!"

We were all shocked, including the nurse! She let my dr know baby was on his way, prepped the room and had me start pushing. It was so surreal because it was all happening so fast. I distinctly remember thinking how crazy it was that I was there at that moment, pushing out a baby. After all, I had gone from laying on the couch completely clueless about what was to come to pushing out a baby in 5 hours - wild!

I pushed for about 15 minutes before I started feeling him start to come out. After a few more pushes, my dr said to look down and there was his head! 1 more push and he was out. I was able to feel him come out this time - with Bradley I was so numb that I could only feel the pressure, but this time I felt his whole body. There was no pain, though! It was such a cool feeling!

DH cut the cord while Tyler was laid on my chest. He just looked around the room, with a "what the heck just happened" look on his little face! They cleaned him up and weighed him (7 lbs 10 ounces), while my dr got the placenta out and cleaned me up. I was THRILLED when she told me I didn't need any stitches this time! They gave Tyler back to me, and we played pass the baby until they moved me into my room at 5:30 a.m. The rest of the hospital stay was pretty uneventful, although extremely annoying because they came in to do checks every hour or so and I just wanted to be left alone. I only had to stay about 36 hours though, but I was ready to be home with my family!

Recovery has been 100% easier this time around. I was able to get up and walk pretty much right away and the swelling has been minimal. I haven't needed any pain meds and am pretty comfortable considering I just pushed a human being out of my body Tyler has been a pretty easy baby so far with the exception of a lot of breastfeeding troubles, although it's still early so who knows what the next few days will bring! He is a little sweet heart and I am so thankful that he's here and healthy!

Tuesday night Wednesday morning was an uncomfortable one for me, nothing really out of the ordinary, but I didn't sleep well. When I woke up I had a slight back ache that went away soon after I got out of bed.

Rest of the day went normally, I did some laundry, finished a crochet project except for fringe, and made dinner for us all. Will put in a movie and I went into the next room to work on carving a pumpkin after dinner. I finished it and went to the bathroom.

That's when it happened. Shortly after that, all of a sudden I felt like I'd wet myself and knew my bladder was empty. Just like with Justin. I knew almost right away what had happened but tried to call the ob anyhow and got put on hold so long( 5 minutes can seem like 20 when you're nervous), that I called L& D and we rushed into the hospital. Every step I lost more water, so I knew it was time. In the car my contractions were 4 min apart. When we got to the hospital to be checked, I was already 5 cm!
Good thing we rushed too, my labor from water break to baby was only 5 hours this time. Hurt alot worse too even with an epi because it was so fast! I didn't scream with Justin, but with this guy, oh boy.......he went out quickly too, I think less than 10 pushes!

Brendan Steven is his name, Steve is Will's brother's name so we thought it would be cute! He weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. at birth, and was just over 20 inches long, almost 20 1/4! He needed time in the Special Care Nursery for jaundice, but we all came home Sunday evening. Right now we have to go back in for more bloodwork on Wed, so keep your fingers crossed for jaundice to go away so we don't need to go back to the hospital.

He's adorable and sweet, and wow is bfing harder than I thought but so worth it!

Thursday night, Chad and I had just finished watching an SNL election special on TV with the presidential election only 11 days away. And Chad went to turn out all the lights...and at that very moment I felt what was my first contraction. It wasnt very strong at all, it was really more of a low ache and I just thought to myself wouldnt it be great if this was it? That was at 10pm.

I only felt a couple more during the 10pm hour...nothing at all noticable. When 11pm hit they really started to pick up in intensity and frequency. So I decided to head down stairs to time them just to humor myself

The started off at 11:15 about 6 minutes apart and quickly picked up to about 4 minutes apart and I couldn't keep track anymore because I was having to concentrate on each contraction as the pain was intensifying

So I went up stairs and handed Chad the computer to time while I got in the shower and sat on the floor. The warm water was SO revleiving! It made me want a water birth so bad! By midnight, Chad determined that they were still 4 minutes apart and I put a call into the hospital

Because I was still able to somewhat talk through my contrax, the nurse thought that I was just dehydrated and instructed me to drink a bunch of water and call back in an hour. I kind of rolled my eyes at this...but wanted to rule out false labor first since I didnt want to take Brynn to a friends house for nothing

At this time...Brynn is awake and thinks its time to party. She sees that mommy is in the tub and thinks its just hilarious...I didnt want to freak her out, so if I started moaning during a contraction, I would try to crack a smile and say "Hi Brynn" and she would laugh and laugh and come splash the water

By 12:30 my contractions were 2 minutes apart and I decided there was no way that it was dehydration and we needed to get moving. So we called the nurse back and she told us to come on in.

Brynn was SO excited we were getting in the car...she had her babies, and was super stoked. Maybe she thought we were going to the park or something. It really made me smile. Although the ride to the Hosital was horrible! Contractions every 2 minutes and it felt like Chad was trying to take the most bumpy ride possible.[/

We drop Brynn off at my friend Amandas house and get to the Hospital at 1:30am. And they check us in and hook me up to the monitors and check my cervix 5cm...we are staying to have a baby

Chad was an AMAZING labor partner. He really was with me for every contractions...not too much not too little, he was just right. Being hooked up to the monitor for the first 30 minutes was excruciating...I wanted to stand up so bad, but they had to start my GBS medication and make sure baby was okay for 30 minutes so I just layed there and took it. I found the most usefull coping method at this point was to have shorter breaths and count each breath and i knew that at about 15 breaths, the contraction would be over. This kind of gave me a finish line so to speak.

After the 30 minutes they let me do whatever I wanted, but I still had the IV cord in, but it didnt really phase me at that point.

2:00am

I spent the next 30 minutes in this routine:
During a contraction, I would stand up and "slow dance" with Chad, I would wrap my arms around him and rock back and forth letting out at "oooo" "oooo" "oooo" during the contraction with one big final "OOOOOO!" at the end of each. Chad was great, he would tell me things like
"your doing it baby"
" each contraction we are closer to Audrey"
"every contraction brings us closer to her in your arms"
"grat job baby"
and then when the contraction was over, I would sit on the side of the bed because my legs felt so weak at this point.

At 2:30 I started having a TON of pressure and I started involuntarily pushing at the peak of each contraction, so they checked me and I was only 6 and she said that my bag of waters was bulgin so much it was triggering that pushing even though I had 4 cm to go. She offered to break my water. Baby was in proper positioning so I though about it and decided to go for it, The energy it was taking to handle these contractions was energy I would be needing shortly. So she broke my waters. Nice and clear. But the sensation of the water coming out of me triggered my gag reflex and I began vomiting with every contraction for just a couple contractions...that was no fun....

Right after my water broke, she checked and I was at a 7.
I continued the slow dance routine with chad for about 15 more minutes until I could feel Audrey heading south for her arrival. That all too common "baby is going to come out of my butt" sensation occured and I knew it was time

2:50

The MW checked me and I still had 1 cm to go. It took everything in me to NOT push at this time. This I would say was the most difficult part of the whole labor. But luckily it was short lived and they declared me complete at 2:55am! Its GO TIME

Pushing for me is a very releiveing feeling. the contractions pain is still there, but it doesnt bother me as much because I am able to counter act it with pushing. I had a mirror set up and wathced my baby come into the world. that was the most rewarding part. chad was right by my side with each contraction, cheering me on. He was great. I was screaming...and I mean SCREAMING with every contraction, but it was a good primal scream that needed to be done. After 10 minutes of pushing, she was out and in my arms COVERED in vernix and purple. But she was beautful. Since she spent so little time in the birth canal...she has some fluid in her lungs that they quickly took care of.

Everyone was shocked at how BIG she was and how fast I delivered. I thought she was maybe 8lbs...but NO....she was NINE lbs, SEVEN ounces....my jaw dropped! But she is still so perfect in everyway. her Apgars were 8 and 9. She latched on immidiatly...and here I am 2 days later and I feel like I havent stopped nursing

In reflecting back on the labor, I have to say it was trully amazing and trully empowering. I remember that superwoman feeling with Brynn, its the same this time, but I feel like I handled it better because I knew the pain was coming.

I accepted the pain as part of the process to get to my baby, and that made me less afraid and more able to handle each contraction. I am so proud that I stuck to what was important to ME as far as my labor plans. I had the best labor partner and I didn't even know it. Chad was amazing, I couldnt have done it with out him. I wouldnt change a single thing about my delivery. Not a second. And as a result of it all, we have a beautiful, perfect little human that we get to watch grow and learn and thrive.

Its an amazing thing to look at your child for the first time. I was worried if i had enough room in my heart for a seond child. how can i possibly when i love Brynn SO much? The truth is, its like the universe doubles and so does your heart and I fell in love with Audrey. Such an intense love I recall these first moments with Brynn to. Looking and Audrey, my heart smiles. Every hair, finger, coo, and movement just amazes me, I could stare at her for days.

We went in on Tuesday at 7am had the induction started with pitocin....at 3 or 4 my water broke and we were all preparing for a fast delivery......ya right!!!

By the time my water broke we were still at 2cm and and didn't see 6cm until 3AM...it was taking FOREVER! Plus i was holding off getting the epidural since i had so many problems getting on in place with Ashley's birth...but by 4am it was unbearable.....the contractions were literally bringing me to my knee's so i opted for the epi.

Once again they could not place the epi.....it was a repeat of Ashley's birth story...ahhhh

He placed it 3 times, but on the third time we hit gold...it WORKED!!!

Things we're good, and dh and I played scrabble while i felt nothing but anxiousness to meet my LO!! (looking back it probably would have been smarter to go to sleep and rst LOL) Then around 9AM my epi wore off and i was a good 9cm, i opted to not have it topped off since i was see'ing the finish line now. Contractions we're STRONG and once again all i could do was concentrate on a picture i had brought of Ashley, it really did give me the extra strength i needed....doctor checked me at 9:30am no change, 10:00am no change, 10:30am 9.5cm and it stayed that way until we decided to call it quits at 12pm!

I was utterly EXHAUSTED both physically and emotionally....I just kept saying "its not fair!!" i had gone through ALL THAT labor just to head into a C Section...ugh!!

Section went alright...but nothing like i thought...i didn't realize how much you actually "FEEL" not pain but tugging and shifting things around ....really wierd sensations.

Apparantly...my BIG 8 pound baby turned into a 6 pound baby....these u/s techs should just stop trying to predict baby sizes. I couldn't dilate anymore b/c babies head was not on the cervix b/c he was facing up instead of down.

The good thing is that he looked perfect in every way, he did have to head down to the special care nursery b/c he had low blood sugar but was really the only problem he had he had great apgar scores so we were really happy.

The scary moment of the day.....when they took him out the doctor found a funny looking cysts on my ovary and he removed it and sent it to biopsy.....we're all pretty scared and are hoping its nothing...but im always espically scared when i think back at all the fertility drugs i've given myself. I guess we'll see in a few days.

Here are a few pictures i haven't taken anything at home yet see'ing as i can barely walk, i think this recovery is going to be hard I really wanted to pick up my baby girl since i was away from her for 4 LONG days but i can't...sucks!

Here is a short video...the nurse wouldn't let dh video tape you can hear her tell him to turn it off! lol
