Claire Ruth H.
Born 8-6-08
9:13 p.m.
1 lb. 4 oz.
11 3/4 inches
born at 27 weeks 3 days

Everything in my pregnancy was going well, until I was 24 weeks along. I went to see my regular doctor because of a bump on my hand, and he discovered that I had high blood pressure. The next day I went to my OB, who was also concerned about the raise in blood pressure from what it had been normally thoughout my pregnancy so far. He sent me to the hospital for some tests and monitoring.

At the hospital, they were concerned about the possibility that I might have preeclampsia. They admitted me over night. That night, a doctor came and told me that I was going to be on bed rest until the baby came. He said I would never make it until term, and at best, I may make it until 36 weeks. I was shocked, as I didn't feel sick at all, and the possibility of spending 12 weeks in bed at the hospital was mind-boggling.

The first week was not very hard. Everything seemed to be going pretty well. I was hooked up to a fetal heartrate monitor 3 times a day for an hour each, so I got to listen to my little girl's heart beat often. And, I got to have an ultrasound each day. It was wonderful to see my little girl every day. The reason I had to have so many ultrasounds was that they discovered that there was a low amount of amniotic fluid, bad blood flow in the baby's umbilical cord, and that she was IUGR (Intrauterine Growth Restricted). Basically, she was very small for her gestational age.

The next week started to get harder. It seemed like every day something happened that was a little bit scary. A couple times they found that not only was her blood flow restricted, it was reverse. (it would flow from my baby to the placenta, but then bounce back). Some days her heartrate would dip really low. Other days my blood pressure started getting really high. One day after her heartrate wasn't cooperating, they had to hook me up to an IV. I found out later that the only reason they did that was in case they had to rush me to the operating room for an emergency c-section!

After I had been on bed rest at the hospital for 23 days, I had a really bad ultrasound. They found the reverse blood flow through the entire cord. The doctor put me on continuous heartrate monitoring for the rest of the day and told me that I would be delivering the baby either that day or the next. My husband rushed to be with me and he stayed there the entire day. At about 5:00 pm, my doctor came in and said "Let's go have a baby." She said it would be better to do it that day and NOT have it be an emergency c-section, rather than wait until tomorrow and have it maybe turn into an emergency.

I was hysterical. I was only 27 weeks and 2 days at that point. I knew my baby was still incredibly small. I was scared for her life. I got wheeled over to the c-section rooms, and had to wait a few more hours. About 8:45 they took me to the operating room and gave me a spinal block. It was incredibly painful, and I was still unbelievably scared. When it started working, they laid me down and my husband was allowed to come in and sit by my head.

At 9:13 pm, my precious baby girl, Claire, was born. Apparently she even cried when she came out, but I didn't hear it. She was whisked immediately away. Then my husband went up to the NICU with her, while I went back to recover for 2 hours. My husband came down to be with me after a while, and told me that Claire was 1 lb 4 oz, and 11 3/4 inches long.

I was wheeled up to see her a couple hours later, but I was loopy from medicine and was flat on my back, so I couldn't really see her. The next day when I finally could sit up, I got to go up and see her for the first time. She was beautiful.

All the doctors and nurses have been amazed by her. She only had to be on the ventilator for 10 hours after birth, while most babies her age/size need to be on it for many weeks! Finally after 75 days in the NICU, Claire got to come home. She is gaining lots of weight and is doing excellent.

Although I never wanted her to be born so early and so small, she is amazing. She is my miracle baby.

I finally have a moment here without interruptions (I hope) to put up some pictures of Brett this morning! I am going home today, since I'm feeling fine and really, I miss Chayse and my house and want to get things settled before DH goes back to work tomorrow morning.

Soooo.....here goes!

I've been seeing my doctor every month for the past few months, but have been going in every week for a progesterone shot on Fridays in addition to that. Everything was normal last checkup which was just a week and a half ago. I was measuring on target and we had a sono scheduled for next Friday just to check the weight of the baby.

I did mention to the doctor during my last visit that after DH and I had sex the night before, that I was cramping a little, but it more felt like RLP and that the baby's head or butt was pressing against my tummy a lot because of the activity. (lol)

So, Sunday night, I laid down about 11 and tossed and turned because I had that same feeling like the baby was moving hard against my stomach. Those were really contractions, but it's so hard to remember what is what at the end of the pregnancy. Well, after two hours of that, I got up and said I'd better time these contractions just to be safe.

They were so irregular, 15 minutes, 10 minutes, 6, etc apart, so I thought we'd just wait until I could get into the doctor's office on Monday morning to try and stop them or see what he wanted to do. They even lightened up there for a little bit, so I thought it was okay to wait and that they might just be Braxton Hicks. At some points, I was thinking that I could sure use an epidural, even though I wasn't sure it was really happening.

I let DH sleep through all of it pretty much, but by 5 a.m I was so exhausted, I came into bed crying because I was just tired and cranky. He really wasn't sure what to do or actually wasn't sure what I wanted to do. I didn't know either. But then all of a sudden the contractions were like one huge ball of constant pain and I knew something was really really happening! I told him to call 911 and he was running around like crazy on the phone with them, trying to get dressed, getting the big kids up and me yelling at him that I needed him at the same time!

As I was screaming and moaning, Chayse was in her pack n play in our room (I had moved her in there when my stepdaughters came to visit last weekend) and she was imitating my groaning - she thought it was a game, it was SO FUNNY!

My water broke on the bed and then I felt a ton better, the ambulance was on their way, DH was by my side, the kids were cleaning up Chayse's toys in the Living room so the paramedics could get through to me.

They asked if I could walk downstairs and I said no, then I realized they wanted to carry me on my sheet if I couldn't, so I got up...with a t-shirt on only and they put a comforter over me and I went downstairs to the gurney. They took a little bit of time to get organized and I asked if we were leaving yet. Finally, we did and just a few seconds down the road, I felt pressure again on my rear-end, so I knew I was getting close, well then I told the paramedic, but he was trying to get on the phone with the hospital..

All of a sudden, here comes Brett...I couldn't stop the push and reached down and felt his head and then he popped out onto the gurney. I told the paramedic he was here. He hurredly yelled to the driver to stop and then grabbed a bulb syringe to clear his passages. I was really scared to touch him when he first came out, because I wasn't sure if he was okay or not. He did let out a little tiny cry, though, so I knew he was okay. The paramedic put him on me and I held him so they could cut the cord and we wrapped him up a little bit to keep him warm. Dad was in the passenger seat of the ambulance and when they stopped, they got out and when he saw his baby was okay, he let out a huge grin. I don't think I'll ever forget the look on his face with that smile.

We got to the hospital and they took Brett to NICU to check him out. They put me in a bed and the placenta was still needing to be delivered, well that was painful too, just sitting there waiting for the doc to come and deliver it. My body was trying to contract it out and they told me the doctor was 20 minutes out. I was pissed that they were waiting, so finally the expelled it and I was fine after that.

Daddy went to go check on Brett and things were normal after that, as normal as they can be considering!! I got into a room, then I went and saw Brett. He is a little bruised because of the way he was delivered (by mom, not by doctors!) but even that is clearing up. He has such a good color and is on room air with the CPAP now. I am hoping his lungs get up to speed very soon - but I'm just thankful he's not on the vent right now. His BP is a little low this morning, but they are watching that. Today he will get some nutrition because he's probably starving now!

We are so proud that he is a trooper and that he is doing well right now. Of course, it's going to be tough leaving and having him stay up here. I don't even want to think of that right now. But, I know he needs his rest and he really just looks comfy and relaxed, so I know he's doing good. We are lucky he is well enough that he didn't have to be transferred to another hospital, because this one is the small local one, I was surprised to even hear that they had a special care nursery. That's a very good sign that he is able to stay here and recover!

Here's some pics of us! I'll try to get back online before I leave here today. Take care all!

Tyler Benjamin C
October 19, 2008, 4:07 a.m.
7 lbs, 10 ounces

I was laying on the couch at 10:30 on Saturday night when I started feeling mild cramping. I didn't think much of it since it was so mild, but decided to sit up to see if it would continue when I moved. I sat up and felt a huge gush! My water didn't break on its own with Bradley, so it took me completely by surprise! I went to clean up while DH called the OB. She said to head right over, so after my dad got to our house to stay with Bradley, off we went! I had my 1st contraction in the car right after I said "I haven't had any contractions yet!" By the time we got to the hospital, they were about 6-7 minutes apart and pretty light.

We stopped in at the ER since it was after hours, and they wheeled me up to labor and delivery along with another mama-to-be who had come in right behind me and looked and sounded like she was about to give birth in the wheelchair! When we got to L&D, they rushed the other girl in since it seemed urgent while DH and I waited in the hall for my turn to be assessed. I kept having big gushes of fluid, although my contractions had become inconsistent and were still mild. When they finally checked me, I was only at 3-4 cm, but they admitted me since my water had broken.

We got to our labor room at about 12:15 a.m. and they started my IV and hooked me up to the monitors. My contractions started getting pretty painful, so I went ahead and got my epidural since I knew I wanted one eventually. The anesthesiologist was great and had me laughing the whole time, which was a welcome distraction for this needle weenie! After the epidural kicked in, I was really able to relax and just hang out with my family, so my contractions picked up quickly and got very strong. At 3 a.m. they were about 40 seconds apart. My sister asked me when she thought I'd start pushing, and my guess was 8 a.m. But, at 3:45ish my nurse checked me and said "we're ready to have a baby!"

We were all shocked, including the nurse! She let my dr know baby was on his way, prepped the room and had me start pushing. It was so surreal because it was all happening so fast. I distinctly remember thinking how crazy it was that I was there at that moment, pushing out a baby. After all, I had gone from laying on the couch completely clueless about what was to come to pushing out a baby in 5 hours - wild!

I pushed for about 15 minutes before I started feeling him start to come out. After a few more pushes, my dr said to look down and there was his head! 1 more push and he was out. I was able to feel him come out this time - with Bradley I was so numb that I could only feel the pressure, but this time I felt his whole body. There was no pain, though! It was such a cool feeling!

DH cut the cord while Tyler was laid on my chest. He just looked around the room, with a "what the heck just happened" look on his little face! They cleaned him up and weighed him (7 lbs 10 ounces), while my dr got the placenta out and cleaned me up. I was THRILLED when she told me I didn't need any stitches this time! They gave Tyler back to me, and we played pass the baby until they moved me into my room at 5:30 a.m. The rest of the hospital stay was pretty uneventful, although extremely annoying because they came in to do checks every hour or so and I just wanted to be left alone. I only had to stay about 36 hours though, but I was ready to be home with my family!

Recovery has been 100% easier this time around. I was able to get up and walk pretty much right away and the swelling has been minimal. I haven't needed any pain meds and am pretty comfortable considering I just pushed a human being out of my body Lol Tyler has been a pretty easy baby so far with the exception of a lot of breastfeeding troubles, although it's still early so who knows what the next few days will bring! Smile He is a little sweet heart and I am so thankful that he's here and healthy!

Here are some pics of our newest addition!

Welcome to the world, Tyler!

Such little feet!

Brendan Steven C.
Born 10-16-08
12:20 am
6 lb. 14 oz.
20 1/4 inches

Tuesday night Wednesday morning was an uncomfortable one for me, nothing really out of the ordinary, but I didn't sleep well. When I woke up I had a slight back ache that went away soon after I got out of bed.

Rest of the day went normally, I did some laundry, finished a crochet project except for fringe, and made dinner for us all. Will put in a movie and I went into the next room to work on carving a pumpkin after dinner. I finished it and went to the bathroom.

That's when it happened. Shortly after that, all of a sudden I felt like I'd wet myself and knew my bladder was empty. Just like with Justin. I knew almost right away what had happened but tried to call the ob anyhow and got put on hold so long( 5 minutes can seem like 20 when you're nervous), that I called L& D and we rushed into the hospital. Every step I lost more water, so I knew it was time. In the car my contractions were 4 min apart. When we got to the hospital to be checked, I was already 5 cm!
Good thing we rushed too, my labor from water break to baby was only 5 hours this time. Hurt alot worse too even with an epi because it was so fast! I didn't scream with Justin, but with this guy, oh boy.......he went out quickly too, I think less than 10 pushes!

Brendan Steven is his name, Steve is Will's brother's name so we thought it would be cute! He weighed 6 lbs. 14 oz. at birth, and was just over 20 inches long, almost 20 1/4! He needed time in the Special Care Nursery for jaundice, but we all came home Sunday evening. Right now we have to go back in for more bloodwork on Wed, so keep your fingers crossed for jaundice to go away so we don't need to go back to the hospital.

He's adorable and sweet, and wow is bfing harder than I thought but so worth it!

ETA: Pam- just wanted to let you know Brendan was born at 35 and 5 days not 36 and 1- no big though thanks for updating!

Here is my birthstory. I was lucky to have my laptop in the hospital (no internet though) so I was ablt to write it out while the details were fresh in my mind.

We are doing great! So far, we are adjusting well. Ask me in a week after being up all night nursing. Brynn loves her sister and quickly learned to say "audrey"

This 2 kid thing is going to be....shall we say....Interesting. I anticipate an adjustment trying to juggle the two girls.

Anyways, without further adu (sp?) here is my story

Thursday night, Chad and I had just finished watching an SNL election special on TV with the presidential election only 11 days away. And Chad went to turn out all the lights...and at that very moment I felt what was my first contraction. It wasnt very strong at all, it was really more of a low ache and I just thought to myself wouldnt it be great if this was it? That was at 10pm.

I only felt a couple more during the 10pm hour...nothing at all noticable. When 11pm hit they really started to pick up in intensity and frequency. So I decided to head down stairs to time them just to humor myself

The started off at 11:15 about 6 minutes apart and quickly picked up to about 4 minutes apart and I couldn't keep track anymore because I was having to concentrate on each contraction as the pain was intensifying

So I went up stairs and handed Chad the computer to time while I got in the shower and sat on the floor. The warm water was SO revleiving! It made me want a water birth so bad! By midnight, Chad determined that they were still 4 minutes apart and I put a call into the hospital

Because I was still able to somewhat talk through my contrax, the nurse thought that I was just dehydrated and instructed me to drink a bunch of water and call back in an hour. I kind of rolled my eyes at this...but wanted to rule out false labor first since I didnt want to take Brynn to a friends house for nothing

At this time...Brynn is awake and thinks its time to party. She sees that mommy is in the tub and thinks its just hilarious...I didnt want to freak her out, so if I started moaning during a contraction, I would try to crack a smile and say "Hi Brynn" and she would laugh and laugh and come splash the water

By 12:30 my contractions were 2 minutes apart and I decided there was no way that it was dehydration and we needed to get moving. So we called the nurse back and she told us to come on in.

Brynn was SO excited we were getting in the car...she had her babies, and was super stoked. Maybe she thought we were going to the park or something. It really made me smile. Although the ride to the Hosital was horrible! Contractions every 2 minutes and it felt like Chad was trying to take the most bumpy ride possible.[/

We drop Brynn off at my friend Amandas house and get to the Hospital at 1:30am. And they check us in and hook me up to the monitors and check my cervix 5cm...we are staying to have a baby

Chad was an AMAZING labor partner. He really was with me for every contractions...not too much not too little, he was just right. Being hooked up to the monitor for the first 30 minutes was excruciating...I wanted to stand up so bad, but they had to start my GBS medication and make sure baby was okay for 30 minutes so I just layed there and took it. I found the most usefull coping method at this point was to have shorter breaths and count each breath and i knew that at about 15 breaths, the contraction would be over. This kind of gave me a finish line so to speak.

After the 30 minutes they let me do whatever I wanted, but I still had the IV cord in, but it didnt really phase me at that point.

2:00am

I spent the next 30 minutes in this routine:
During a contraction, I would stand up and "slow dance" with Chad, I would wrap my arms around him and rock back and forth letting out at "oooo" "oooo" "oooo" during the contraction with one big final "OOOOOO!" at the end of each. Chad was great, he would tell me things like
"your doing it baby"
" each contraction we are closer to Audrey"
"every contraction brings us closer to her in your arms"
"grat job baby"
and then when the contraction was over, I would sit on the side of the bed because my legs felt so weak at this point.

At 2:30 I started having a TON of pressure and I started involuntarily pushing at the peak of each contraction, so they checked me and I was only 6 and she said that my bag of waters was bulgin so much it was triggering that pushing even though I had 4 cm to go. She offered to break my water. Baby was in proper positioning so I though about it and decided to go for it, The energy it was taking to handle these contractions was energy I would be needing shortly. So she broke my waters. Nice and clear. But the sensation of the water coming out of me triggered my gag reflex and I began vomiting with every contraction for just a couple contractions...that was no fun....

Right after my water broke, she checked and I was at a 7.
I continued the slow dance routine with chad for about 15 more minutes until I could feel Audrey heading south for her arrival. That all too common "baby is going to come out of my butt" sensation occured and I knew it was time

2:50

The MW checked me and I still had 1 cm to go. It took everything in me to NOT push at this time. This I would say was the most difficult part of the whole labor. But luckily it was short lived and they declared me complete at 2:55am! Its GO TIME

Pushing for me is a very releiveing feeling. the contractions pain is still there, but it doesnt bother me as much because I am able to counter act it with pushing. I had a mirror set up and wathced my baby come into the world. that was the most rewarding part. chad was right by my side with each contraction, cheering me on. He was great. I was screaming...and I mean SCREAMING with every contraction, but it was a good primal scream that needed to be done. After 10 minutes of pushing, she was out and in my arms COVERED in vernix and purple. But she was beautful. Since she spent so little time in the birth canal...she has some fluid in her lungs that they quickly took care of.

Everyone was shocked at how BIG she was and how fast I delivered. I thought she was maybe 8lbs...but NO....she was NINE lbs, SEVEN ounces....my jaw dropped! But she is still so perfect in everyway. her Apgars were 8 and 9. She latched on immidiatly...and here I am 2 days later and I feel like I havent stopped nursing :bigwink:

In reflecting back on the labor, I have to say it was trully amazing and trully empowering. I remember that superwoman feeling with Brynn, its the same this time, but I feel like I handled it better because I knew the pain was coming.

I accepted the pain as part of the process to get to my baby, and that made me less afraid and more able to handle each contraction. I am so proud that I stuck to what was important to ME as far as my labor plans. I had the best labor partner and I didn't even know it. Chad was amazing, I couldnt have done it with out him. I wouldnt change a single thing about my delivery. Not a second. And as a result of it all, we have a beautiful, perfect little human that we get to watch grow and learn and thrive.

Its an amazing thing to look at your child for the first time. I was worried if i had enough room in my heart for a seond child. how can i possibly when i love Brynn SO much? The truth is, its like the universe doubles and so does your heart and I fell in love with Audrey. Such an intense love I recall these first moments with Brynn to. Looking and Audrey, my heart smiles. Every hair, finger, coo, and movement just amazes me, I could stare at her for days.

Here is my birthstory for anyone interested Smile

We went in on Tuesday at 7am had the induction started with pitocin....at 3 or 4 my water broke and we were all preparing for a fast delivery......ya right!!!

By the time my water broke we were still at 2cm and and didn't see 6cm until 3AM...it was taking FOREVER! Plus i was holding off getting the epidural since i had so many problems getting on in place with Ashley's birth...but by 4am it was unbearable.....the contractions were literally bringing me to my knee's so i opted for the epi.

Once again they could not place the epi.....it was a repeat of Ashley's birth story...ahhhh

He placed it 3 times, but on the third time we hit gold...it WORKED!!!

Things we're good, and dh and I played scrabble while i felt nothing but anxiousness to meet my LO!! (looking back it probably would have been smarter to go to sleep and rst LOL) Then around 9AM my epi wore off and i was a good 9cm, i opted to not have it topped off since i was see'ing the finish line now. Contractions we're STRONG and once again all i could do was concentrate on a picture i had brought of Ashley, it really did give me the extra strength i needed....doctor checked me at 9:30am no change, 10:00am no change, 10:30am 9.5cm and it stayed that way until we decided to call it quits at 12pm!

I was utterly EXHAUSTED both physically and emotionally....I just kept saying "its not fair!!" i had gone through ALL THAT labor just to head into a C Section...ugh!!

Section went alright...but nothing like i thought...i didn't realize how much you actually "FEEL" not pain but tugging and shifting things around ....really wierd sensations.

Apparantly...my BIG 8 pound baby turned into a 6 pound baby....these u/s techs should just stop trying to predict baby sizes. I couldn't dilate anymore b/c babies head was not on the cervix b/c he was facing up instead of down.

The good thing is that he looked perfect in every way, he did have to head down to the special care nursery b/c he had low blood sugar but was really the only problem he had he had great apgar scores so we were really happy.

The scary moment of the day.....when they took him out the doctor found a funny looking cysts on my ovary and he removed it and sent it to biopsy.....we're all pretty scared and are hoping its nothing...but im always espically scared when i think back at all the fertility drugs i've given myself. I guess we'll see in a few days.

Here are a few pictures i haven't taken anything at home yet see'ing as i can barely walk, i think this recovery is going to be hard Sad I really wanted to pick up my baby girl since i was away from her for 4 LONG days but i can't...sucks!

fresh outta the oven

My favorite photo by far, she is just IN LOVE with her baby brother, she kisses and hugs him CONSTANTLY!

Oh and his stats..

My birth story is pretty short and sweet. After my last 24 hour protien test came back high, my doctor called me up and said, "Let's have babies tomorrow!" She said there was really no good reason to wait any more, so we went in and had babies.

I was 35 weeks 6 days and it was Friday 10/10. We went in at 6am and they got me ready. We had to do a c section because baby A, soon to be Brewer, was breech. My back was so swollen, that the anesthesiologist could not thread the epidural, so they just gave me a big shot of the anesthesia medication into my back w/o putting in the epidural. I was really scared I was going to feel something bc of this, but before I knew it, the nurse beside me assured me they were already working on getting the babies out. I felt much better once I knew things were underway and I wasn't in pain.

They were really funny in the operating room - everyone was in a great mood. They were so happy with Brewer when they took him out! He looked great. Jon said that when they popped Bonham's water bag it went all over everyone, especially my doctor. It was funny because I heard them ask her if she needed to stop and she was like, "No, it's in my hair, but it's not dripping into my eyes or anything, let's keep going..." SO casually - how funny.

They took Bonham out and he looked great too...Jon took a couple of quick snaps and then went with the babies to the NICU while I went to recovery. The babies only had to go to the NICU for observation because they were early. They were perfect and breathing on their own so they went to the regular nursery as soon as observation was over. Our pediatrician told us the nursery nurses were refering to them as his little rockstars. I love it! They were able to come home with us - we are so very lucky.

Anyway, we are over the moon and so glad to have Brewer and Bonham home. Here are a few pics from the kids' birthday. Hopefully the sizes of the pics are ok.

Hey everyone, Jackson's here! We're home and doing well. Here's my birth story for now, I''m sure I'll think of more later!

Wednesday night, I went to bed, thinking I was finishing my week at work. Was on here for a while, went to the bathroom before bed and heard a pop! But, I really couldn't tell if it was my water or not. Walked around, went to the bathroom again and the gush came. It definitely was my water, not me peeing. That was 9:55ish.

Called Donnie and I wasn't sure if he should come home or not. So, I called L&D, they said to come right in. He got home around 10:30 and contractions had already started coming quick, like 5 minutes apart, they were strong enough where I couldn't walk through them. We left around 11, got to the hospital around 11:30, the car ride they were 3-4 minutes and getting worse.

Checked-in, contractions were around 2 minutes and I was shaking all over (apartently was anemic but they didn't tell me that until later). Got into my room around 12:30. Decided I definitely wanted an epidural because I couldn't even rest or recover inbetween contractions. They were 2 minutes apart and inbetween the pressure without water in there was awful. So my midwife (named Kristen!) said she would have to check me just to make sure I had enough progress to get the edidural. Donnie was pretty shocked and clueless during contractions too, so he wasn't helping too much, so without the epi, I would've been by myself pretty much. I don't blame him though, he did great otherwise!

She checked me around 1am and I was at 4cm, so he guy came right in! He was giving it to me and the nurse (who Donnie had worked with before and was sooo nice, coincidence again), was helping me. Well, Donnie said once the guy got everything done, he injected the needle into the IV so fast that I yacked everywhere. I tried to warn them, but not soon enough. So, I'm of course apologising the whole time while the nurse cleaned me.

Around 2, everything was done and Donnie and I got some rest, she said she'd come check me soon. We both fell asleep, little did I know, every time I had a contraction more fluid was leaking out, when she came to check me the bed was soaked again!

So, she changed me again and the midwife checked me at 3am, and I was already 10cm. She said good thing I got the epi when I did. She said he was a little high still though, so she would just leave me for another hour without pushing and we could rest.

She came back around 4:30 and said I was ready to go. I began pushing and pushed for almost 2 hours and out precious little man arrived at 6:31 am! He's just perfect,

Jackson Thomas
8lbs. 12oz.
21 inches
apgars 8 & 9.

So, the whole birth was pretty smooth, until afterwards. I had a ton of bleeding, aparently my placenta didn't quite separate from my uterus, which happen to my aunt too. So, I had borderline hemmoraging and a small 2nd degree tear. Everything after that is pretty blurry. They were rushing around, I think I got a huge shot in my leg, but my nurse kept me busy with Jackson on me, so I was pretty clueless. I got sick again, and in between getting sick, I felt better, so I was able to nurse for about an hour. Finished, got sick again.

Finally, a couple hours later right when my mom and aunt showed up, I felt a little better and they were able to move me into my own recovery room, thank goodness. I declined some nausea meds because I just kind of wanted everything out of my system. We don't have too many pics from right at the birth because of everything that went on, but we got some good ones later.

In all, we're doing much better now! We're home and actually got some sleep last night! I will check in with everyone a little later!

My Birth Story

On Sunday the 12th, we went to the town that has the hospital so we could go get checked my Dr on Monday morning. Because of the car ride (it was 3 hrs) I was having tons of contractions. So we decided to go in to L&D and get checked out. They did all the monitoring and the midwife told me even through I was having contractions, they weren't big ones. She gives our Dr a call at home and they decide that I should wait around town until Tuesday to see him in his office (Monday was all day at the hospital doing surgeries.). DH did not have a lot of time off and had a important meeting to go to Monday morning so I tell him to go back home and come back monday night so he can make his meeting.

Well I had some more contractions over night and call the midwife in my Dr's practice in the morning. She called the Dr and then called me back to go back to the hospital and tell them he wants to see me inbetween surgeries. Well I am still contracting on the monitor and both boys are looking good still. Well Dr comes in and asks how it is going and says he would like to wait but I tell him I am not a fan of being on meds with the babies and that really, I can not do anything but lay on the couch or my bp goes up anyway. I told him to put me out of my misery. So he says that if I am still contracting when he comes out of his next c-sec, he will come do an internal check and made a decision then. Well he comes back and I am dialated to 4! I am in labor! (Which I kept telling him...anyways). Dr decides that since I have not eaten since 8 that morning, I can do the c-sec in two hours! Dh has a 3 hr drive from work. I call him and he just jumps in the car and goes.

So they are preping me for surgery and I still have Helen with me. I am worried about what will happen to her during the surgery if my Dh is not there since my family comes in later that week. Well they call a social worker but can't get ahold of one, so the nurses say they are going to take her. So in I am wheeled and the babies came out. Dr said that when he got me open, he saw four feet and a hand. how funny. Anyways, Dh finally tracks down helen (she had been handed off to about 5 nurses since one would get busy and call another to take her) and then found the boys. When I came out of recovery, we were all united and all was well.

I can not believe how quickly I have recovered from the c-sec. I was up and going to the bathroom at 10 that night (surgery was at 3) and surprisingly the pain was very minimal. I was under a general (the decision made at last minute because of my prior history of Syringomyelia) and was worried that I would not get a good start to bfing but two hours after surgery, I started one on the boob and so far it has been 100% breastfeeding. I can feed them both at the same time and that cuts way down on time spent feeding. I had to stay a full week in the hospital only because that is when I got my staples out and they had to do it in Dubbo and not back home. By day 4, the nurses pretty much left me alone to do my thing since I was up and moving around great and only on regular tylanol (panadol) for pain relief. I knew where the linens cart was to make my bed or get towels and I had to remind them most of the time to get my meds but I did not mind the experience at all.

Jason David was born at 3.18 kgs (almost 7 lbs), 49 cms (almost 19 in) at 3:40 pm
Erik Robert was born at 2.80 kgs (6 lb 2 oz) , 49 cms, at 3:43 pm.

Here are some pics of them.

My mom arrived in town around 7:00 Saturday night. DH left for work at 8:00, so we got to just hang out and catch up on everything going on. We finally went to bed at 11:30, and slept fine till DH got home at 3am. I guess around 4am I felt a small gush that woke me up instantly. Of course my first thought was that I peed on myself, so I got up and headed to the bathroom where I saw that I had wet through my underwear and pajama bottoms. Sat on the toilet for a while and kept having small gushes of water, so I realized this was it! Started calling for DH, poor guy had barely gone to sleep but as soon as I yelled - "My water broke!!!" - he launched out of bed LOL!

So after I posted here (couldn't forget my girls! Biggrin ), we all finished getting ready and headed for the hospital. Once I got admitted, they checked me and I was still only 2 1/2 cm and not really having any contractions. I was having a few mild contractions, but nothing I could feel and there was no regular pattern. Of course since it was a Sunday, I ended up with the on-call doctor instead of my normal OB. He ended up being nice enough, but since he didn't know me, he didn't know about any of the birth preferences we had discussed with our OB.... After a little bit of arguing with the nurse  I got her to agree to delay the IV until after the doctor showed up and we got to talk to him. I wanted to get up and walk around to help get some dilation and contractions going - the first nurse never would let me, but the shift changed at 7:30 and we got a nurse who was more willing to work with us about what we wanted. So we got to get up and walk the halls until around 9:00 - we later found out that the doctor had told them not to let me up, but since he hadn't arrived at the hospital yet, they just let us do it on the "down low"....

Got back in bed around 9:00 when the doctor finally showed up - I had dilated to 4cm, and the contractions had picked up a little, but still nothing steady. I REALLY didn't want to be put on pitocin which was the doc's game plan, so we got him to agree to give me some more time to get my body moving. My friend Beth (sweetmonkey) came up to visit me, so that helped pass the time! I was still feeling great at that point, a bit tired but still smiling and joking. They finally talked me into an IV since it looked like the pit was going to be inevitable - the contractions just weren't picking up enough. Of course my veins weren't cooperating, so after several sticks, they finally got one started in my left arm and hooked me up to a saline drip. I decided to finally lay down and try to get some rest since it was looking to be a long day.... After I had been resting about an hour, my arm started hurting really bad. I sat up and looked at it, and my whole left arm had ballooned up and gone rock hard - the pain was all my hospital band digging into the skin of my swollen hand! Turns out the IV had blown my vein, and all that saline was just pumping into my arm - yay....

At that point I had another nurse come in who was SO sweet - she just felt horrible about the IV and was so comforting because I have a terrible needle-phobia and I was getting pretty upset.... I really didn't want the IV in my hand because I have had one there before and it HURT. So she tried a vein in my right arm, and of course that one promptly blew out too - ARGH!!! So I ended up getting stuck with the IV in my hand after all - stuff just wasn't working out for me!

They checked me again at around 12:00, and I was still at 4cm and not contracting.... So the doctor pretty much put his foot down at that point and said I had to start the pitocin - my water had been broken for about 8 hours by then. The two nurses were really great, they knew I was upset about the pit so they started me at a Level 1 instead of the Level 4 they usually do. After about 30-45 minutes, the contractions finally started picking up some. Eventually, they were to the point where I couldn't walk or talk through them, but I could still pay attention to what was going on around me - DH and my mom would tell jokes during the contractions to see if I was still feeling good enough to laugh, LOL. I don't remember what time they came to check me again - I think around 3:00 or 4:00pm? Anyway, I had finally gotten to 5cm and 100% effaced, but I was still not progressing the way the doctor was hoping. So the pitocin got upped some more and the contractions started getting bad....

DH was a huge, HUGE help throughout the rest of the labor. The jokes weren't working anymore - during one contraction, I was like, "I hate to be the cranky pregnant chick, but could yall PLEASE quit talking???" LOL. Anyway, I was starting to have a hard time dealing with the contractions, so DH got on the bed behind me and let me lean against him. He felt that I was tensing up REALLY bad during them, so he started whispering in my ear to just relax, let all my muscles go limp.... Telling me I was doing great, that I could do it.... He made such a difference in me being able to last as long as I did - with him coaching me, I found that I actually was able to relax my body during the contractions and just try to clear my mind, and it helped them to not hurt so bad.... I am SO thankful he was there, he was just great! Biggrin

They came and checked me again around 6:00, and I still had not made any progress at all. Sad So the pitocin went even higher.... Thankfully my best friend had shown up by that time, because it was taking her, my mom, and DH all working together to get me through the contractions. They were AWFUL!!! Of course, I hadn't been able to eat a bit all day, so I started dry-heaving through every contraction. I was bawling and really starting to freak out - I had about a five-minute lull where I talked with each of my coaches, and we finally decided to get the epidural. I don't remember a lot from that time, but apparently I kept telling them all that I was sorry for getting it.... Sad They all told me I was doing great and to quit being silly and apologizing, I had made it so far already.... I was just SOOO tense and upset, and I think it was hindering my body from progressing. Thankfully, the anesthesiologists were already on my floor prepping another girl for a c-section, so they showed up within about 15 minutes.

Getting the epidural wasn't as bad as I thought, but I was a pretty difficult patient - even through the dry-heaves and pain, I still had my needle-phobia in full effect, so I kept jumping every time he tried to put the needle in. It took DH, my BF, and a nurse all holding me to keep me still enough for him to get it in. But he finally managed it, and ahhhh, blessed relief! LOL! He gave me the first dose directly into the catheter, and then tried to hang a pump to keep it going. With my luck for the day, he went through three pumps before he finally found one that was working. It was close to 9:00pm by the time I was completely numb, so then they cranked the pitocin WAY up. I was so exhausted and so was DH, so we both passed out for a little while.

I woke up around 9:45, and realized I was feeling some STRONG pressure down there, so I hollered for my friend to grab the nurse. The nurse checked me, and I was FINALLY completely dilated, 100% effaced, and baby's head was right there and ready to go! They called the doctor (who had gone back home), and the nurse decided to let me start pushing since it would "probably take me a couple hours to get the baby out". After about 20 minutes of pushing, the nurse looks up at me like this  and goes - Quit pushing, quit pushing!!! Which was REALLY hard to do at that point, but thankfully the doctor walked in five minutes later. We had a quick talk with him about not doing an episiotomy - he obviously wasn't too impressed LOL, but he agreed. I got to start pushing again, and on the second contraction, baby girl slid right out! He didn't even have time to tell me she was crowning, she was just there! 10:32pm, 7lbs 1.3 oz, 20 1/2 inches long

He had to suction her for a bit before she started crying, and then the nurses took her to the warmer to make sure everything was okay. We both had a fever from my water being broken so long, but otherwise she looked fine. I finally got her back, and we got to try breastfeeding - thank Heaven after such a rough day, I was blessed with a baby who knew exactly what she was doing! LOL! She latched right on and has continued doing great with it. Yay! Smile

Starting early on Tuesday 10/28/08 at 0515, I was woken by mild menstrual like cramping. Now remembering Zach starting off this way two days in a row with the second day being D Day, I wasn't sure if this was it, but was surely hoping so.

At this point I text two people to give them a "heads up", my ex husband and Ken. My ex was put in charge of getting me to the hospital and staying with me till Ken got there.

Around 0600 I get out of bed and start moving around getting a few things done while Zach is still in bed. I finish and hop back into bed before Zach get's up. At 0645 I realize Zach has not gotten up yet....hmmmm I better wake him up so he's not late for school. I wake him up and go down stairs to get the rest of the stuff I need to do before I leave for hospital.

Zach finally gets ready and comes find me.... "mommy, why are you up so early?" (Zach has been a big boy getting ready and off to school on his own for about two weeks now, so I can sleep) It happens to be Tuesday which is my day to get payroll completed and out in the mail. So I'm hurrying to get all this done, not really knowing for sure if labor is going to speed up or anything.

Zach is out the door at 0740. I'm still working on payroll getting all the checks printed and signed. I move to the bigger office in my house and start putting check into envelopes and text my ex to see if he's up and got the first message. I don't hear back and call him at 0800, apparently he'd been up all night not sleeping well. I talk to him for about 5 min and decide these are starting to hurt, I need to call and wake Ken up for sure. Well apparently Ken and the ex both didn't sleep at all the night before......LOL I talk to Ken tell him it's time and that I'll be heading to the hospital as soon as I finish up payroll. I guess me not leaving right away and actually working gave Ken the impression that I wasn't sure about Tori being born that day. I called him back at 0840 to tell him how to use Tues and Weds off from work, but find that I'm waking him up again.... hmmmmm :violent2: At this point, I'm just a little pissed cause I'm in pain and trying to get work taken care of, I'm in labor and my husband went back to sleep!!! LOL So I hung up on him!

My ex sends me a text asking how far apart......he's an old pro at being a coach, 3 kids. I tell him I've not timed just yet but getting ready to. He yells at me for acting like it's no biggy. LOL I wonder why Ken didn't think it was really time. So I stop working to time for a bit and they are 5 min apart. Send text to ex, his reply was "what do you think?". I have no idea it's been 11 years since my last baby, but at the same time it is my 3rd. hmmm I'll wait a bit after all they are only 5 min apart. Ok he has some running around will keep phone with him and call him asap if he needs to return. "Is Ken on his way?"... "I don't know, I hung up on him"... LOL

(Looking back at all this it was just too funny of a morning)

1000 My niece walks through the door to take over working for me and finish up things and take dispatching over and be here when Zach gets out of school. I get another message from ex, on my way back to that side of town can be there in 30 min, what's the status? I'm good things are still the same, I'll call if things change. Niece runs to bank for some petty cash to finish up payroll. I call ex, hmmmmmm come get me!!! LOL He gets here and niece is pulling in as we leave. We get the hospital at 1100, and they promptly put me in a room and hook me up.

1230, contractions are steady at 3-4 min apart, I'm at 3cm and they admit me. Ex sends text to Ken, they are admitting Felicia, hope you're on your way!! LOL Mind you my ex and I are good friends and it took every bit of the past 16 years for that to happen, but he DIDN'T WANT TO BE THERE FOR THIS!!!! Meanwhile they get me into a L&D room with birthing bed, couch, mirror, the works. Now the ex starts in on me, teasing me that the contractions aren't big, yada yada yada......

1500, Contractions are getting nice and difficult to talk through a bit. They come in and say they are going to break my water at 1600. I ask if they can hold off till 1630 so Ken is not too far away when things pick up. Again ex agreeing so he doesn't have to stay..... all the while teasing me about it. He would have stayed if something happened if I needed, he was just busting my chops.

1530, I decide I want my epi now so I don't have to have it during really bad contractions. They start it at 1600 and it takes two tries because the bed was slightly off kilter and it effing hurt the first time. Got my back straightened out and the second attempt worked perfect! All pain is gone!!! ROFL During the epi, Ken called to say he would be there in 15 min. Ex is brought back in room, and I tell him Ken should be here any min!! Smile Ken walks in they meet for the first time and Tony RUNS out the door!!! LMAO

1600 They come in and give me oxytocin instead of breaking water because things are moving just a little slow and Tori is showing mild signs of stress.

1700 They break my water and the fun really begins. I start feeling pain in my tailbone like I've never felt in labor before. She dropped just about as far as she can but I'm not completely dilated so we still have a ways to go. I get concerned over the pain because I'm not feeling the contractions in my tummy, because of the epi, but my pelvic is killing me during contractions. I guess it's normal with the oxytocin and the conditions we are looking at.... oh JOY!!

They give me a little self medicate button which I'm pushing at just about every contractions at this point, however they are not helping because I've maxed out the drug on the setting. The nurse comes in and adjust the drip of pain meds and I start to feel just a little better. I manage to get some rest as I'm not feeling the pain as much.

Fast forward to about 2300 (not much of anything happening in between, other than roll this way roll that way) they check me and I'm about 7-8cm.

2330, check again and 9cm... woo hoo we're close!!! Just a little lip in the cervix that needs to smooth out.

Ten minutes later 2340, "KEN!!!! Call them back in here now it's time to push!!!!" Ken, "WHAT?" "We are having her before Midnight!" Ken, "No way, not enough time!" LOL Oh yeah it was time, I was holding back pushing, she was right there, no doubt about it. They had already started getting things ready for the delivery and only needed to remove the foot of the bed. They check and sure enough, the doc was able to smooth out the last bit of the lip and it was time to push.

Time to Push!! It had been such a long time since my last and a long day it took me a few trial pushes to get that right spot, then it was a matter to two big pushes and she was out! Smile No tearing no cutting!! I got her out BEFORE Midnight, 2352!!!

Ken did an awesome job holding my leg up for me. He didn't get to do the whole delivery thing with his son because his ex had an emergency c-sec. This was his first and he said he could have done without it....LOL Blue smurf like thing coming out was a shock. He was starring at my IV machine looking as if he was going to :puke2: Poor thing!! LOL At this point I'm talking to Ken just trying to calm him down a bit because he didn't look all that good. They are working on Tori and monitoring her breathing, which they didn't like the sound of. Ken goes and looks at her and takes some pics, because I've still not seen her after 30 min. I finally get to see her on the camera. After about an hour they bring her to me to hold for a few min then send her off to NICU. That was sooo hard to watch them wheel her away..... Sad But on the bright side I knew they were only doing it to monitor her for about 1-2 hours. She was released to my room soon after.

That's how our little Tori joined us. Boy I'm so glad that's over!!!

Brenna's Birth Story!

Brenna arrived Nov. 6 at 3:30 am, 7 lbs. 6 oz., 22 inches long.

She came quickly! We went to the hospital around 10:30 pm, but it was packed and I was only at 2 cm, so they wanted to send me home. I send no, so they let us walk around. My contractions kept getting worse, so at 1:30 am they checked me and I was 5 cm, so they admitted me! By 3 am, the contractions were SO strong, way stronger than I ever had with my daughter! At 3:15, I told the nurse the baby was coming out, get the doctor, but she said, oh we'll push for awhile before we get the doctor; the next contraction she was crowning and I was bearing down and she rushed like crazy to call the doctor, who never made it in time, so she was delivered by about 4 nurses! It was SO much more painful this time than with dd1, last time I had an episiotomy and she slid out; this time, no doctor=no episiotomy, so I ended up with 2nd degree tear which the doctor sewed up when he arrived for the afterbirth. Brenna had to be suctioned because she came so quickly, it never squeezed the fluids from her, but she is perfectly healthy and wonderful!

Riley Breann's Birth Story

As many of you know, this was my 7th pregnancy, but fouth and last child. As many of you also know, since all my daughters were born by c-section, this one was scheduled for one as well for Oct. 30th; 38 weeks and 4 days.

We were to arrive at the hospital by 5:30 a.m., so we had plans to be up by 3:45 a.m. to get ready, load the car, and get to the hospital. However, pregnancy insomnia and some anxiety kicked in and I was up at 1:50 a.m.; just 3 hours after going to sleep. I couldn't get back to sleep so at 3:00 a.m. I decided to take a hot tub bath since I knew I wouldn't enjoy one of those for a while. Joe got up with me because he was as excited and as nervous as I was. We were both ready to head out the door at 4:45 a.m.; a half hour before we even had to leave, but we left anyway.

We arrived at the hospital and they immediately hooked me up to monitors and shaved me in preparation. The nurse then asked me, "Are you feeling any of these contractions you're having?" I was in shock because I wasn't feeling them, but they were actually happening pretty regular. We were then left alone for about 20 minutes which during that time Joe and I tried to watch some tv to relax, but I think we pretty much talked the entire time about the pending surgery and our baby who would arrive soon.

At 7:15 a.m. I was taken to the operating room and continued to be prepped. My doctor had not arrived yet, but that was not unusual since he does not come in until the patient is completely ready. At 7:35 a.m. my doctor arrived and therefore the anesthesiologist began to prepare my spinal block which should have taken effect immediately. However, they had difficulty placing it in and instead of making me go numb, it caused me great pain because they had it in the left side of my spine. They finally decided to take it out and start all over again and immediately, my feet went numb! Success!! The spinal block was working and prep work was taking place fast. My doctor was brought in, the curtain went up, and Joe was brought in to be by my side.

From the incision to delivery is supposed to be within 3-5 minutes; however, this one took longer because when my doctor cut me open, he found so much scar tissue from my previous c-sections, that Riley was "stuck" inside me. He had to scrape away all the scar tissue that was in the way to pry her out. At first, he got her head out, but still couldn't pull her out due to scar tissue. By this time, suspense was rising because we were all trying to guess if the ultrasound was right and that we were indeed going to have a girl. My doctor had to pull her out through the scar tissue, which bruised her sides a little, but at 8:03a.m., our very healthy, beautiful baby girl was born. She cried immediately and it was such sweet sound to my ears. I layed there crying such happy tears while she was being cleaned and when they brought her to me and Joe to see, I couldn't believe how pretty she was and she immediately stopped crying and looked at me and Joe, almost as if to say "hello mommy & daddy". It was such a beautiful moment.

The recovery from the c-section went by text-book and we were released to go home on Sunday, November 2nd. I went to the doctor today and got my staples removed. Riley's first dr appt is Nov 13th, as well as my 2 week checkup.

Oh and the wonderful news: Riley took to BF immediately and nurses like a champ!! I haven't had a baby nurse as good as her since my first daughter was born over 15 years ago. So, Joe and I are going to try to work it out to where I can nurse her for her first year if possible.

Alicia C./alicia715's Birth Story

This birth story will probably take longer to read than my labor was…

Sunday morning, I woke up pi$$ed at the world. I felt like I had PMS – big time. I warned DH to stay away from me or I'd bite his head off for no reason, so he hung out with his DS outside most of the day. All the contrax I had been having for a couple of days before were gone; I had maybe 3 BH all day. That evening DH took his DS home (1hr away, each way) and got home around 9pm. He was planning on taking him home much later, but for some reason decided against it. My nipples started to itch really badly after DH got home and it took everything I had not to mess with them. I wonder if this was a sign of impending labor…

Around 10pm, I had my first contraction. By 10:10, I decided to time them online for fun. They were 2 minutes apart. I really was sure that it was false labor and they’d go away, so I really didn’t mention them to DH. When he saw the contrax thing on the computer, he freaked out and started running around the house tying to get ready, but not really knowing what he was supposed to be doing. I finally talked him into going to take a shower so he’d leave me alone.

By the time he was done, I had my bag packed the rest of the way, DS was out of bed and packed, I had our neighbors ready to take us to the hospital (we don’t have a car), and had coffee brewing to take with us for after LO got here. I was still convinced that the contrax would stop, though! We were on the road by 11pm for the 5 min. hospital ride. I had 2 contrax in the car and decided I would not have one more contrax while sitting – ever!

Got to the ER and told the lady at the desk why I was there – DUH! I had a contrax in the lobby and they tried to get me into a wheelchair. NO WAY! So instead, the desk lady got pissed and told me I either had to walk into the back – right now – or sit in the chair. So, mid-contrax, I laughed at her. Shoulda seen the look on her face! The ER nurse was another “fun” one. She was calling up to L&D to let them know we were there when another contrax hit. I was instantly down on hands and knees, getting through it and I heard her telling the L&D nurse that I “was in a lot of distress from the pain” and to “have some pain meds ready.”

Once again, they tried to get me into a wheelchair, telling me that it was policy. I refused and started walking. Thankfully, they gave me a great orderly to take me up. He was more excited than my DH! Every contrax on the way up had me on hands and knees – you should have seen the faces on some of the people we passed in the halls! By the time we got on the right floor, I was feeling pushy and decided that the chair would slow me down enough to get into a room.

They tried to put me into one of those rooms where they check to see if you’re really in labor, but I warned them that LO was coming in the next 5 minutes. So they took me to a LDR instead. I got there, pulled off my shirt because I was so hot, got my pants down so they could check me and laid on the bed long enough for the RN to say I was only at 6cm. Right then I had a real pushing contrax. I didn’t let myself push, but felt that ring of fire. I told the RN to check me again and I was 9cm.

Next contrax I let loose with a primal scream that made my DH look like he had just seen/heard the most unbelievable thing in the world and I felt LOs head come out. I told them, but was told it was my bag of waters putting pressure on me. RN was trying to get the EFM on me and wanted me to lay down on my back. Another lady was attempting to get at one of my arms for an IV. DH was running around the room waving my birth plan around, telling them to leave me alone with the monitoring, etc. And I'm on hands and knees, half on the bed saying, “I know that was his head.” Pretty funny now that I look back at it – not funny at all at the time! DH finally heard me and was now just staring at Los head saying, “Uh, guys…” So, the on-call doc walks in, sees LOs head and 1 shoulder (still in waters) hanging out of me and no one doing anything about it. She decides that she had better do something and starts to pull LO out the rest of the way. I start screaming at her to leave me the hell alone and just catch the baby, DH jumps into action to get her to stop, but it was too late and he was born.

I turned over and saw my son quietly laying on the bed, looking around. The staff was still in shock, so no one had tried to make him cry yet. DH really stepped in then. He made sure to get the baby on my chest, didn’t let the dr clamp the cord right away, kept all hands off LO unless absolutely necessary, etc. I had until the placenta came out before giving the baby over to DH for evaluation, etc. (15 min?) When I birthed the placenta, there were big pieces left inside. Just then, one of my regular OBs got there (the one I like!) He gave me the option of getting an IV and having some Nubian administered so he could try to get the extra pieces out right there, or wait and see if they’d come out on their own; and if not, go to surgery and have a D&C – possibly under general anesthesia if it became an emergency. Of course, I opted for plan “A.” Not fun! I couldn’t keep still, even though it didn’t hurt – just lots of pressure. He got it all out!! I don’t think the other OB would have even tried…

Oh, no tears or anything!!! I have absolutely no pain.

We named him “Gordon D. C_____” after his dad and grandpa. The “D” should be Durwood, but I couldn’t do it to the poor little guy. Now we have to find a name that starts with D to call him! He’s a BFing champ – latched on without any help. I’ve only heard him cry twice, both times when I was asleep and he got hungry. He’s got super blonde hair, which completely surprised me. I was positive that he’d have dark hair like DH. Turns out he was a blonde until he got older. Who’d have thought?!

DH and I checked in at 7:30, and were taken straight to our room. We got settled in, and the nurse gave me 1/4 a tablet of Cytotec. I was expecting the worse, but other then not being able to move for an hour it was not that bad. At 12:00 They checked me, and I was fully effaced, and 3 cm. My Dr came over on his lunch to break my water at about 12:30. We waited a bit and watched “27 dresses” and I got my epi. I don’t think he knew what he was doing. I could feel things on the right side, and my left was only somewhat numb. I waited a bit to see if it would kick in but nothing happened. I had to have another anesthesiologist come in and fix the epi. The nurse wanted to wait for me to be completely numb before giving me a catheter, so we just kinda sat around and waited. When she came back a little after 4:15 to give me a hit of Pitocin and insert the catheter, she went to check my cervix, and go figure there was his head. We were at 10 cm 100 and station + 3, all within an hour of getting the epi. She called in a team, and 3 pushes later Jacoby Matthew was here. I am anemic and thought I was going to pass out, but all was well. I had great nurses, and an amazing hospital. I have been reading, but my cell would not let me post. Happy Day. We came home yesterday. He does not sleep for squat, but I he is cute, so we will let it slide.

Connor Martin is here! (birth story)

Good morning, Ladies! I wanted to post this sooner, but obviously things have been pretty chaotic the past few days!

Connor was born via c-section on Thursday at 1:06 p.m. He was 9 lbs. 5 oz

We were scheduled to go back at 11:00, but the doctor was running behind by about 30 minutes.

So we finally get to go back, I get my spinal block, and we are almost ready to begin! Everyone was prepped and they were getting ready to go get my hubby, when an emergency arose and my doctor, along with the scrubbed-out staff had to leave my room to take care of the other lady.

We waited while I was under the block for about an hour. I really didn't get nervous until the anesthesiologist tells us the if the block wears off, I would have to be put under, that the block was only a one-time shot.

So I was like, let's get this show going here! I got really nauseated and threw up alot while we were waiting, but it passed.

The team came back in, got prepped and got started. About 10 min. into the procedure I hear a little scream. The Dr says, "he has green hair, because of merconium", and then holds him up over the drape. He is sooo beautiful !! Even at that moment he was very alert and bright. They did not have to take him to the NICU to check lungs b/c he cleared them out on his own.

My recovery is going pretty well now that I've got my pain management under control. He is beautiful, healthy and alert and a great breastfeeder!

I have a spare second, so I thought I'd pop on & do the story! Around 9-10-ish in the morning on the 5th I felt some minor, non-painful contrax. nothing huge, but it told me that finally I was feeling something! I didnt feel anything else for the morning, so about 1145 I went to the store. When I was there, I was feeling things again, nothing harsh, but enough to tell me that I was probably starting to gear up to have the baby. Around 1 I started writing things down, I figured I had better pay attention. I was pretty sure at that point that maybe by Thursday or Friday I'd have my baby. Nothing was painful, so I didnt put too much stock in what was going on. Things were happening 10-20 minutes apart. I called DH around 2 to make sure he wasnt going to be late, since things were happening. (he's normally home around 5) He said he was coming home right then, I told him it wasnt necessary, but lucky for me he didnt listen! Within about 15 minutes they started coming about 5 minutes apart. He was home about 245, and since they were close he said we were going. (again, lucky for me he was being cautious!) We called his parents to come over & watch Emy, and by the time they got here & we were ready to go, they were 3-5 min apart & getting painful. We got to the hospital about 415, and they were about 3 min apart. I got hooked up, vitals taken. They were busy, so it was taking the doc a while to come check me. We were just waiting for that so I could get my epi. Finally the nurses checked me and about flipped, they said I was a 9, and started getting things out & ready & called the doc to get in right away. They said I didnt have time for drugs, and I lost it. When the doc came in he said I was only a 7 & did have time. It took about an hour for them to come to do the epi, by this time it was about 620. They left at 645 & said I should be good by 7. By 705 we realized it wasnt going to work, the baby was just too low. I thought I was dying! (understand, I NEVER intended to have the baby without my epi!!) I was pretty much freaking. They said I was a 10 & could push whenever I had the urge. Yeah right. The nurse kept asking if I felt like pushing, and I just kept saying I dont know how you're supposed to push during the contrax, they are just so painful! (between saying it just wasnt fair!!) Finally DH told me I should just try, this was about 745. After pushing thru about 3 contrax, my water broke, one more push and they were urgently calling the doc in. The resident was trying to get me to breathe, I was ready to slap her! I think I pushed thru 2 or 3 more contrax and he was born. (8:09) All I can say is you ladies who go natural are amazing. Looking back, I keep telling DH I still wish I'd had my drugs!! However, the end result is wonderful. The good thing is this was so much shorter than with DD, my recovery is WAY easier. I was pushing for a long time with her & needed foreceps, so I was in alot of pain after. This time, even tho I did tear (2nd degree), my hoo-hoo hardly hurts at all! I think DH is sick of hearing me whine about having to feel everything! I can't help it - even tho I know i'm lucky because it was so quick, I hate pain, and frankly, that sucked! The next day before the doc went off shift he visited to see how I was doing. I was joking with him a bit, and told him I still wasnt happy about feeling everything, but I didnt blame him. He said "good, cuz I'm not the one who got you pregnant!" I really liked him! So anyway, that's that! We came home the following night, and he has been doing great. He has been giving us 3 hours between feedings at night, so we are even getting some sleep! The worst thing now is not being able to pick up DD. It is killing me! I can't wait to be back to normal so I can carry around my munchkin!

We had a...

Beautiful baby BOY!

Miles William
November 10, 2008
2:56pm CST
7 lbs, 2.4 oz.
20 3/4" long
Born at 39 weeks 4 days

I was having a few contractions on Sunday before going to the hospital at 700 to get the Cervidal inserted to start my induction. I didn't think too much of them, they weren't painful and I'd been having a few off and on each day for a few days. We checked in at L&D at 700, I was still CLOSED (ugh, I was so upset to hear that!) and I got the Cervidal inserted at 800pm. It had to stay in for 12 hours. I didn't get much sleep that night, 3 hours at the most. I was having contractions (not painful yet) and there was just so much going on in the hallway it was hard to sleep. Plus I'm sure my excitement/anxiety! Around 630am my contractions really started to pick up fast. I was in pain. I took a shower to try to relieve them. At 800 my doctor came in to remove the Cervidal. I was 5cm dilated already and my contractions were almost unbearable. We moved over to the Delivery Room. I got my epidural around 10 --- ahhhh! Relief! Minus the itchies! The nurse checked me at 11 and I was complete. Baby's head was nice and low, she thought it would take about 3 pushes and baby would be out. We waited for my doctor to get there before pushing. Well, we were waiting but she was taking forever so the nurse called her to see what was up. She said to go ahead and start pushing and page her when there was 50cents worth of hair showing. So I started pushing...and pushing...and pushing. I threw up a few times from pushing so much. I tried lying on both sides to help and nothing was working. Baby's heartbeat started dropping and the nurse called the doctor to come in. She came in (it was about 2 by this time). Heartbeat was still dropping so she got out the vacuum to help. I had to wear an oxygen mask to help get more oxygen to the baby. Finally at 2:56 our baby arrived! It took awhile for the first cry because the cord was wrapped around the neck. But soon after we heard the first cries. Bill and I both started crying! I tore pretty bad so it took awhile to get stitched up.

My milk is just starting to come in (ouch!!) and he's doing pretty good nursing. Bill has been very helpful with everything (I secretly think he could be a lactation consultant but I won't tell him that!). Miles had to stay under the lights because of jaundice all day Tuesday and into Wednesday. I only got to take him out for feedings for 30 minutes. It was horrible, I've never cried so much in my life. I could hear him screaming in the nursery under the lights when I'd go take sitz baths and I'd start all up again. Thankfully we were able to come home late last night. We have to go back tomorrow to get his levels checked. I hope they're ok otherwise he'll need to stay.

He's perfect, I could stare at him all day. Ok, I do stare at him all day. :bigwink:

I can see I missed a lot on here. I can't wait to see who all had their babies!

Alessandra Nicole's birth story

I took my last Terbutaline pill on Monday, 11/3/08 at 7pm. I was 37 weeks. On Wednesday, 11/5/08 I woke up with intermittent contractions starting around 2 a.m. By 6:40am they were constant and ranging from 5 to 10 minutes apart. I had a doctor's appointment at 8:15a.m. so I got up and took a shower. While in the shower, they picked up and then eased off a little when I got finished.

There had been an accident on the interstate so we had to take the alternate route to my doctor's office. Because of all the traffic, a normal 15 minute drive took us an hour and forty-five minutes. I was contracting the whole way and DH was not happy about the traffic. We finally made it to my doctor's office at 9:30a.m. I saw the doctor, told him what had been happening with the contractions and he did an internal. My cervix was softening and I was in labor. Our plans for a c/s on 11/17/08 went out the window and he sent us down the hall to the hospital to check in because we were moving my c/s up to 11/5/08.

I got to the hospital and got checked in at 10:16a.m. We were put into a private birthing room and told that I was scheduled for around 2:30p.m. I continued contracting all day. The nurse was great and tried to make me as comfortable as possible. At 2:15p.m., we found out that there was a baby in distress and I was being bumped until after that c/s. The nurse apologized profously, but we told her that it was okay since our first DD was born via emergency c/s due to fetal distress. We told her that I was fine and not to worry one bit.

At 3:30 pm we were taken to the OR. DH noticed that it was the same one that we were in with our first DD (the hospital has two on the labor unit) so we took that as a good sign. The doctor came in to do the spinal. I don't know if it was because I had had all day to think about what was going to happen or what was going on, but this spinal did not seem as easy as the one with DD#1. I felt everything he was doing and it felt like he was inserting a thousand needles into my back. One of the OR nurses gave me her hand to hold and I apologized to her for squeezing so much. She said I was fine and to not worry. After the spinal was in, they laid me down on the table to finish prepping me. At that point I got really nauseated from the medicine. They wouldn't let DH in until they had me stabilized, but he was what I really needed. When I get nauseated, I get a feeling of panic and usually he is the only one who can calm me. The assistants gave me three doses of something to ease my nausea and then they lowered my head to below my feet and finally I was okay.

At that point, DH was allowed in. He sat right at my head, held my hand and told me it was okay.

The surgery started and I felt tons of pressure. My doctor was making jokes to make me feel better and that helped a lot. At one point right before she was delivered, I took a deep breath (I guess because I had finally calmed down) and he joked to the med student that the deep breaths always make the babies go back high. So more pressure and at 4:09p.m., she was born. She was looking all around and didn't start screaming until they laid her in the warming bed. They all commented that she was the biggest screamer they had had all day.

Her stats were:

7lbs 1oz, 20 inches long

What is really ironic is that she was only 1 oz less than her big sister and they were both 20 inches long at birth. Not bad for a 37 weeker.

So I went out and ran errands most of the day on the 14th. Then I took the girls home. I was having irregular contractions but nothing timeable or that was any different then it had been for weeks. At 6pm my DH called to tell me he was on his way home from work and asked how I was feeling. I told him it could be tonight but the contractions were still irregular but I was having more. So he got home around 6:30 and he started making dinner. Then we started timing contractions and they were about seven to eight minutes apart so he decided to get the girls ready and I called the doctor. It was after 8 by then. The doctor told me since it was my third and I was dilated so we left at 8:35. The hospital is 45 minutes away. Well as we were driving the contractions were getting a lot closer 2 to 3 minutes apart. About 15 minutes away from the hospital I was starting to feel the urge to push but I didn’t tell my DH because he was already driving like crazy in the pouring rain and it was very foggy. So we got to the hospital and had to park in the garage because it was after hours. The parking ticket says my DH pulled up at 9:12pm. So we parked and thank goodness my sister was there because we left the girls in the car with them and headed in. I could not walk so the police patrol went and got a wheelchair and Dh rushed me in. We went to registration and they were asking me question and if I could sign paperwork and I couldn’t answer them so they decided to rush me to a room. The nurse gave me a gown and told me to go change into there was no way I couldn’t even move. So they got me undressed the doctor checked me and my water broke and he said I was fully dilated. So he got dressed telling me not to push that was getting impossible at that point. Then he said I could push and Cayden was out in less then ten minutes. I ended up with 2nd degree rips because there was no time for anything. The stitches were the worst part because even with the local shot I could feel everything. That part took almost a hour and then I had to fill out all the paperwork to admit me. Cayden Michael was born 11/14 at 9:40pm he was 8lbs 9.6ozs and 20.5inches long. I was 37 weeks 3 days along.

Aasha Vaishali's birth story

I had my scheduled induction on 11/15 and Aasha was born at 8:39 PM. She was 6 lb 9 oz and 19 inches.

We got to the hospital around 7:45 AM on Saturday. The nurses hooked me up to the NST monitor, and then I got hooked up to the IV and got Pitocin started around 9 AM. We were told to expect to have the baby sometime in the evening. The Pitocin regimen was interesting (not knowing anything beforehand about the induction process). I was started on a very low dose, and it was steadily increased every half hour. My contractions started almost immediately and I clearly felt them each time the dose was upped.

By 3 PM, the contractions had gotten very painful for me. I had already known that I would opt for pain control if I felt like it, and by then I was ready for it. However, I didn't want to get my epidural yet, because I knew it was better to be more dialated before getting it. I'd started the day at 1 cm, and was around 4 cm at this point. They offered me Fentanyl to carry me through until I wanted the epidural. It made me woozy, but also helped mitigate the pain. I finally got the epidural around 5:30 PM. Getting it was painless, and I felt relief very soon afterwards.

My labor progression after the epidural was pretty fast. By 7:30 PM, I was already 9.5 cm, and the nurse encouraged me to start pushing. I was very nervous and a bit scared at this point, but the staff was very reassuring and DH was extremely supportive. In spite of the epidural, my last half hour was difficult for me. I ended up with a small episiotomy at the end, because I just couldn't quite get Aasha out. After the cut, Aasha popped out right away. I was trashed and much of that time is hazy for me. I had my eyes closed the whole time, just part of the intensity of pushing process. My only focus was the pushing and breathing.

We spent the next 2 nights there, and Aasha and I were discharged on Monday evening, both with a clean bill of health. Coming home on Monday night was so special. I can't explain how amazing it was to bring my baby home. Up until that point, it was surreal, but now I felt the reality. A sweet surprise upon coming home were the decorations that the grandparents had put up.

Florian Tristan Birth story
================================================
I had few contractions on Saturday and Sunday but nothing special at all… Sunday afternoon and night NOTHING….
Then at 2am contractions woke me up…. I started to look up the clock and they were 3 to 4 mn apart and almost a minute long….
2:30am I long my Mucus plug… then contractions started to be 3n apart a minutes to a minutes and a half …
I let Jacques sleep and decide to see … well by 6am I couldn’t walk during contraction and decided to wait 7am to call my doula or doctor….
Jacques got up and realize that this was “may be the day”….
7am I called my Doula and she said 3mn apart over a Minute long seem like “active labor” she said call you OB and see…. I called my OB and he said just go to the hospital seems you are in active labor!! So we got organized and went…

Kate (our doula) was there waiting for us…. Contractions of course slowed down when I arrived there but they were 3mn apart in the car….

We got settle on our room and Kate and I started to work together during contractions: massage, pressure points, vocalizations… Nurse checked me and I was 1cm!!! I said NO WAY!!!!! I felt really DISSAPOINTED... I ma like 1cm! I ma going to be here 3 days …

Few hours later contractions were like 2mn apart and way over a minute long and I got check I was 4cm…. I cried so hard…. Kate and Jacques and even the nurse were great support….

I was sitting on the birthing ball, going in the shower… contractions were not my enemies I wanted them to come so I could progress….

My OB came during his lunch break checked me and I was 5cm!!! He told me “you are taking the slow way but this is OK”….. He broke my water (we agreed on it) hoping it will help….

End of the afternoon contractions were still 2mn or 3mn apart my OB came back and still 5cm I lost it I was crying every tears of my body asking myself (and them) what was I doing wrong…. Everybody was so nice and supportive….

My OB said he will come back after diner to see me again…. He came back around 10pm and still 5cm and I was getting tired… he said “you are getting too tired” you need to rest but contractions 2mn apart now and still 5cm was no “relax” time.. I was sleeping between contractions (Kate and Jacques told me)… but still I was in labor since 2am!!!!

My OB knew I wanted NCB but he told me I should consider EPI so I could rest otherwise he was worried I will be too exhausted to push when times comes…. So I told him I’ll think about it… and let him now
Jacques, Kate and I talked me was so disappointed by myself and so tired…. I/We decided that now I was for 20 hours in active labor and no food in me…. (I didn’t eat at home thinking I would have time later!!)

Then Florian decided to TURN and I went into “BACK LABOR” and let me tell you I don’t wish this to my worst enemy…. I cried to pain relief… Lucky me my Doula knew of a natural relief way…. 4 shots of saline water down my back the nurse would have to know about it and the injections have to be made almost at the same time… Kate went and found a Nurse that new about it (two other came to learn about it and see where to so it) the pain of the saline water going where my back was hurting was UNBEARABLE I creamed so hard I think people in NYC may had heard me…. But the pain was gone!!!!! MIRACLE….
We worked on various positions and massage to turn Florian and h did turn but put his feet in my rib and IT WAS NOT NICE!!!!

Contractions around Midnight started to slow down and the nurse explained me it was because I was tired and my uterus too…. The MW that work with my OB came by checked me I was 5cm … NO IMPORVEMENT…. We talked and

I gave in and agreed on the EPI at about 2am (I think)… once the EPI was on I slept!! Jacques and Kate too!!! (We re all tired)…. The nurse told me that when they came to checked on me we were all 3 SNORING very loud!!! After an hour of the EPI in they started VERY LOW (I asked very low) PIT but contractions slow down to 5mn apart….
Baby HB was great!! All the time NEVER move from the 120 range since we got there

Then around 6 am I felt like the “pooping” need and Kate told me this is “pushing phase” I was like yes it is happening…. The MW was there and the nurse and I started to push…. IT FELT SO GOOD!!!!
The MW check me and she couldn’t really tell but she still could feel some piece of the cervix but seems like I was in the pushing “phase too”… she said baby head is right here…. Work with your body and push when you need to….

Even with the Epidural I could move my leg feet and feel “down there” I just didn’t contractions pain and it was NICE I wanted to FEEL….
I pushed in every position named on the planet I think… all 4, standing, squatting, and using the bar etc….
Around Noon I was pushing for about 5hr I was making some progress but nothing significant…. I was SO FRUSTRATED!!!!

The nurse asked me if a nurse student could come in to see and I said of course we all have to learn… the men was so happy I let him come in… Kate and Jacques gave me the “camera” job since he was just there to watch may as well take photos!! Since we were all thinking baby was coming out soon!!!!!! (I will spare you those photos…)

The MW, my OB were with me at 1:30pm and got the speech that I could go for an other 12hr since baby HB was still good but they were concern I was tired, Uterus was tired and no real pushing progress (even so I pushed as hard as I could) so my OB told me to think about C-Section even so he knew I didn’t want to hear about it…. The MW also told me to think about it…. Jacques and Kate were so so supportive of me crying my soul out and hating myself for not progressing….

2pm OB and MW checked me again… and the MW couldn’t really understand “what she was feeling” my OB got in there and he could PUSH THE BABY head back…. Then he told me…. BIG HEAD I don’t think he is coming out this way…..

I made the decision… to go for the C-Section forgetting my EGO and just wanted Florian HB to remain strong for the surgery…. I knew I just threw out the first skin to skin feeling, delayed clamping etc…. but it had been 36 hours of long had work for him and me…

The Anesthetist came and uses the same “tube” that was in there for the spinal block… Jacques was of course allowed to come with me and I asked for my Doula to come and the Anesthetist said yes…. Then the nurses asked me if the student was allowed to come and I said YES and then my OB had a student too and he asked me and I said YES !! “We all have to learn”…

They got me ready I cried even more!!! All the staff was so nice the nurses knew how bad I wanted a NCB… and how hard it was to lay on this table….

Jacques and Kate came in I couldn’t feel anything and my chest was SO SO HEAVY… the drape was up but Jacques was telling all what was going on…. Kate was looking to but also putting her finger in my hairs talking to me….
Jacques told me baby is out!! And running … I guess Florian was done been in there and was wiggling like a fish at the end of a hook running with his little legs in the air….
All I could ask is “is the baby alive”!!! I heard a little scream and then quiet and nobody talked to me and I got mad and asked again “is baby alive” (to be honest it must had been ½ a second but it seems like an eternity to me) and Jacques said YES and it is a BOY !!!

I was them taking to the table where the pediatrician was doing whatever she was doing to him and I could see his legs and arm but not his face…. He as moving a lot…. Then I heard the noise of “suction” or whatever my OB was doing to me…
Florian was brought to me and I could wee him and kiss him for the first time!

I was so RELIEF and then I fell a sleep… I told Jacques “UNDER NO CIRCUNSTANCE YOU LEAVE HIM” and that’s all I remember….. Kate was still near me when I remember...

The injected me MORFINE and did what ever they had to do…. I was transfer to recovery room where I guess Jacques brought Florian to me but I don’t remember, Kate was here too but she told me I only spoke French but I don’t recall this part at all…

The recovery is thought and painful…. But FLORIAN is healthy and this is all that matters…. Kate told me I am one of the toughest people she worked with and my OB said very STUBURN too!! He told me when you decide something it is hard to get it out of your head... he said he was proud of me and he mention that he wish some of his patients should have some of my strengths!!!! (For whatever it worst I still ended up with a C-Section)

I am at peace now with the C-Section…. (I think)….

But contractions (except the back labor ones) don’t hurt and Pushing is a RELIEF so who ever out there still to give birth just think of a contractions as a progress and just breathe…

Take a DOULA she is worst a million dollar to me….

SORRY THIS IS LONG !!

Cody Jackson M was born on Friday~November 21st by C-Section at 1:11 pm. He weighed 5 lbs 10 oz & was 18 1/4 inches long. Surgery and recovery have been great! (Much easier this time around than what I remember with the first one). BF is going great too, although I have to admit at first it was a bit rough, but so excited to be on the right track now. I feel so blessed that I get to be his mommy!

I began having light cramps Friday night into Saturday morning. I got up Saturday morning and was fine until about 10:30 when I started to have cramps again and they started to get stronger. I then figured they must be contractions but figured they were just false labor pains or BH b/c they weren't very painful. They began to pick up in both intensity and frequency but were irregular and short, lasting only 30 seconds or less. They would become closer together and then start to become further apart. By the time DH got home around 12:30 we decided to call the drs office because they were fairly frequent even though they were short. She told us to go take a walk around the block and that would either make them stronger or make them go away. They definately got stronger. By the time we got back from our walk I had one that was strong enough to make me double over so we decided to call the dr back. She said to go to the hospital to get checked out to see if I was making progress. This was around 5pm.

We went to the hospital and my contrax were pretty strong. They were around 5 min apart but only lasting around 30 seconds. They were also getting stronger with each one. I was brought into a room and was checked. I was already 3 cm dilated! So I was admitted. I got into my room and my contrax began to pick up some more. Not long after I was checked by the dr. I was 5 cm dilated! This was around 7pm. We decided that it was definately time for my epidural as I was in some serious pain. I felt a whole lot better once it kicked in. I spent the next few hours much more comfortable, not feeling a thing. I was dilating pretty quickly, by 11pm I was 9 cm. Around midnight I was complete and feeling a little pressure. The nurse had me attempt a couple of pushes but they didn't move him down so she thought I should wait until I was feeling constant pressure. I felt more when I was laying on my side and around 1 am I started to push. Joshua was born less than an hour later.

He has been a very sleepy baby so far. We have to wake him to feed him every 2-3 hours. He also has a wonderful disposition and is a very content baby. We figure with all he went through in his first days of life he needs the sleep and we are still getting a good amount of sleep ourselves so we aren't complaining. It has been such a whirlwind since he was born and I spent my days in the hospital in a daze a lot of the time. He has barely been home for 24 hours and it has only been the 3 of us since this afternoon. DH is such a great daddy! I have still been very sore and have gigantic swollen ankles so I am very uncomfortable. He has been doing so much that I don't know what I'd do without him! He loves doing it too, we both enjoy taking care of him but the way DH is with him is just beautiful.

He loves to be swaddled and thanks to the nurses at the hospital calling him a borrito it's now what we call him when he's all wrapped up.

Abreham Hendrik
Born Nov 17, 2008 2:22 pm
8lbs, 15oz, 19.5in long, 14.5in head!
41weeks exactly

We arrived at the hospital at 4am for our scheduled induction due to post dates and no progress recently. I was 3-4cm (-2 station) at my last appt a week earlier. 41weeks gestation exactly. I was very nervous about inducing because my first induction had been so very difficult. We were hooked up to a monitor for a while, and pitocin was started, increasing the rate every 20 minutes or so. I had a sporatic contraction pattern that gradually became every 3 min with the pitocin and with increasing intensity. By 7am I had a nice, consistent, though not really painful pattern going. Around 7:45 baby had a decel (heart rate drop) and we cut back on the pitocin, but baby was nice and active, so no one was terribly concerned. My OB came in at 8:45 and ruptured my membranes; nice clear fluid and TONS of it. I was sitting in a pool of it! It continued to leak throughout labor. Contractions became gradually worse after that.

I spend lots of time swaying while standing, or on the birth ball, and sometimes squatting to open my hips with contractions. I was managing well though with relaxation techniques and breathing. At 1100 I was 4-5cm, 90% effaced, -1 to 0 station. I was disappointed with the progression, and decided to delay an epidural longer so I could work with gravity and movement to get this baby down. Baby was starting to have more decels with contractions, but recovered nicely in between. At noon I decied to have my epidural which was WONDERFUL! My RN checked me, no change.

After my epidural baby started having lots of decels, with every contraction, and I ended up spending lots of time on my side since that is the only way baby’s heartrate stayed up nicely. We had an internal contraction monitor and fetal heartrate monitor applied. At 1:30pm I was 7-8cm, and then at 1400 I was 9 cm and she could push the remaining cervix away.

So my OB came over and we prepared to push. Baby’s heartrate started dropping even more, instead of dropping to 70-80 with contractions it dropped to 50-60, and initially was recovering. This was also when we found out baby was OP (face up). I think I pushed about 10 times total. Baby was not moving at all, seemed to be stuck behind my pubic bone. After a couple of pushes the heart rate dropped to 60 and stayed there, I was already on oxygen, and as good as they were at hiding it, my RN and OB were getting a little worried. I am in this type of delivery regularly for work, and I was worried too. I thought we would head for a c—section any moment. My OB put a vacuum on baby’s head and 2 contractions later baby flew out! Once he was past my pubic bone he came out nicely. He had a nuchal cord x2. They put him on my belly. I was rather stunned to see boy parts! He was breathing nicely and turning nice and pink. He opened his eyes and watched everything going on. He stayed on my belly for a full hour, including for breastfeeding at 20 minutes with the exception of checking his weight, We were all dying to know! He weighed 8lbs, 15oz! and has a 14.5inch head! They measured his length as 19.5inches, but we are sure he is longer than that.

So total I was in labor about 6 hrs from when I had nice, consistent contractions. And 20 minutes pushing. Not bad for a big, face-up baby!
Apgars were 9 and 9.

We enjoyed our two nights in the hospital (I told everyone I was on “vacation”). And the girls visited every day. Ella is like a little mother and madly in love with Abreham. Arwen was very skeptical of the whole situation at first, but the moment he was home, she is sharing toys and raisens, and checks on him every time he cries. Our first night home was great, he woke up to sleep and fell promptly back to sleep. The second night he only slept 3 hrs.

My milk came in before we even left the hospital, which was great but painful. Thankfully, only sore and painful, but no skin breakdown on my nipples. I have been pumping to relieve pressure too. I've been taking my motrin religiously, and doing the occasional sitz bath to help me heal, ouch!

Overall, I was so disappointed to be induced, but honestly it went so well, and with his position and size, I’m not sure he ever would have come out vaginally if I had waited another week. I had an amazing nurse who supported and encouraged me the whole time, and was so happy with how my OB handled the delivery. And of course I am so madly in love, I would do it again in a heartbeat!

Anyway, here are the pics!

Here is my story...better late than never...
Sunday Morning, Nov 9th, 6:00 am – A big contraction woke me up. I went to the bathroom and had lost more mucous plug and had my bloody show. I showered and got dressed in hopes of going to the hospital soon. My contractions were regular, every 5 minutes, but not very strong. I could talk through them and walk around. They would tend to come and go all day and when I called the dr he said I needed to wait until they were 5 minutes apart for over an hour and strong enough to keep me from walking or talking. That never happened and I was just uncomfortable all day.

Monday Morning, Nov 10th, 2:12 am – Another big contraction woke me up. I was still losing my plug and bleeding so I was hoping the contractions would increase. Sure enough they did and by 3am I was waking Justin up to go to the hospital. We didn’t call our family and tell them because we wanted to make sure it wasn’t false labor. I got to L&D and was sent to triage. They kept me on the monitor for 4-5 hours but eventually sent me home. I was 2cm and contracting but my contractions were irregular. I would have them one after another but they weren’t strong enough to dilate me, and then all of the sudden a huge one would come and keep me from talking or moving. I was told to go home and get some sleep and take a hot bath.

I got home and took two Tylenol PM and tried to sleep. Within 2 hours I was up and in lots of pain. The contractions were 10-20 minutes apart and really bad. I took a hot bath and then got back in bed. Nothing would relieve the pain. I dozed on and off between contractions and decided to take another bath. I called the nurse and asked her to talk to the dr for me. I didn’t want to be in this kind of labor for days on end. I told her I would take a csection if I had to (kidding of course). She said that he told her he would have admitted me and broke my water while I was in L&D this morning but he knew I wanted to go natural so he sent me home. I hung up with them and felt so beat down. The pain would be easier to tolerate in the tub but I hated being in there so I got out and got back in bed. I played some music and tried to sleep through it. I got up again and decided a hot shower would help me relax before trying to go to sleep for the night. Justin had called my mom and asked her to bring over dinner. I wanted to eat before lying down. I was having more contractions on a regular basis but I knew if I went in they wouldn’t let me stay unless I was at least a 4. My mom got here with the food and before I could even open the container I had a huge contraction hit that sent me to my hands and knees on the ground. I had Justin call the dr right away and tell him I had to have some relief. He described to the dr my contractions and how I was on hands and knees on the floor crying and he said it sounded like labor to him. So he wanted me to go to triage, get checked out and he would meet me up there to break my water. So that’s what we did. When I got there I was 3-4 cm so they put me in a room. At this point it had already been 38 hours since the contractions and I was ready for a little mental and physical rest. I asked for the epidural. The guy came in and administered it and waited for it to take effect. It never worked. They would ask “do you feel warmth in your legs? Numbness? anything different?” I was getting so frustrated because I knew it wasn’t working and they kept asking. They even gave me another big shot of pain meds and I couldn’t feel that either. I felt every contraction and they were getting harder, more regular and lasting longer. The dr finally came back and removed my epidural and gave me another one. Almost instantly I felt it kick in and numb me. The nurse put in the catheter and the OB came in and broke my water. This entire time my mom, granny, in laws, brother and nephew were there. Then my other brother and sister in law showed up. Everyone hung out until about 1am. Everyone except my mom and granny left. Justin and I tried to get some sleep but that never happened, I was way too excited to sleep.

Tuesday Morning, Nov 11, Midnight - The nurse came in at midnight and I was 5 cm so she gave me a little dose of pitocin to help regulate my contractions. It was all just a waiting game. She kept checking me and at one point I was 7.5 cm, then 20 minutes later I was a 9. I was so excited that I had progressed that fast. We all just figured I would be pushing any second! Then all of the sudden I felt pressure down there and called the nurse to check me. I was still a 9. I was disappointed but figured it would still be soon so I dealt with the pressure. The pressure increased to the point where I couldn’t stand it, but ever time she checked me I was still at a 9. She would try to stretch me to a 10 but it never worked. At some point I asked my family to stay out of my room the rest of the time until he was born. I was really bothered by the pressure and having people watch you bear through it made it worse. My ob came in to check me and I was still a 9. He said he would let me push a little and see if we could get my cervix to stretch to a 10. Besides the stalling at 9, the baby’s was sunny side up and he wanted to try to flip him over. I pushed for a little while as the dr flipped Deacon over. Every time I stopped pushing my cervix would tighten up again around his head and make me start over. I was getting so discouraged because the pressure was no longer just pressure, it was painful and I felt like I had to push and couldn’t control it. The OB gave me two options 1. Throw in the towel and have a csection or 2. Give it another our and see if I dilate. I decided to wait it out even though I was crying through every contraction and losing my temper. After 50 minutes I was yelling for the nurse to check me. I told her that if I was still a 9 to take me directly to the operating room because I was passed done! Ugh, still a 9. She called the dr and they set up the OR. They rolled me down the hall and within no time I was getting more drugs and being cut open. I was so loopy from the meds that my eyes couldn’t focus and I had no idea what anyone was saying or what I was saying back to them. I remember feeling the incision and the tugging and then I just heard Deacon crying and crying. They has Justin come over to the warmer and see him and they were all taking pictures and doing footprints and I just laid on the table thinking “I can’t see him, this is not how its supposed to be, I can’t see anything”. And I was so sleepy that I didn’t care to see him right away, I just needed to sleep (hence my eyes being closed in the picture, the picture I don’t remember taking).

Anyhow, Justin took Deacon back to my room and my family got to meet him. The nurses wouldn’t let anyone hold him until I got to the room and held him first, I thought that was awesome. Just told me about it later because I had assumed they had all passed him around by then. I got to breastfeed him right away when I got to the room but I can’t remember what that was like. Justin told me it didn’t work. The nurse opened up my shirt and put my naked little baby on my chest, that was the best moment I had had all day. He just looked up at me and stared.

I think its safe to say that my birth story is the exact opposite of what I had hoped and planned for but it is exactly what I needed. I don’t regret the meds or the csection for one second. I never knew my little boy’s head would be too big to fit through the cervix and I never knew I wouldn’t dilate past 9, so I can honestly say that all these unforeseen events didn’t make me have a bad birth, just an unplanned experience.

I was scheduled to be induced on sat. morning at 9am. We arrived at the hospital and they brought us up to our room and my nurse did all the paperwork. (the hospital is in the process of going paperless so they were all still learning all the computer stuff, so that took quite a while!) At 10:30 my dr came in checked me (i was 5-6cm, was 4cm at my appt on thurs) and broke my water and we waited about an hour or so to see if anything would start on its own. so dh and i walked a bit. i had a couple contractions but nothing too terrible. so at 12:00 they started the pitocin. it didnt take long for that to kick in and start feeling contractions!! After about an hour i was wanting an epidural! so i got that at 1:30. i tried to get a little rest but i got the shakes so bad that it was hard to relax! dr came back at 4:00 and i was fully dialated so i started some pushing with the nurse. dr came in every once in a while to check how that was going. after 2 hours of pushing (i was getting pretty exhausted!) she asked how much longer i thought i could go before she should think about either the vacuum or forceps. i told her i'd go for another 1/2 hour. she thought that was resonable. so after that she came in and pretty much knew she was gonna have to use the vacuum. through all the checks she was pretty sure that Alyssa was facing down. well after the 3 HOURS of pushing and using the vacuum to get her out, she wasn't! she came out sunny side up! dr said that was the reason she wasnt coming down enough.

Dh was so incredible through the whole thing!! and he is so completely in love with his little girl!! my heart melts just watching the two of them!!

breastfeeding is going pretty well. we go back on monday for her checkup and also a check with the lactation consultants. which will make me feel a little better that hopefully shes getting enough.
we had a bit of a rough night the last night in the hospital. she just cried and cried! and so did i!! it just broke my heart!! we ended up giving her some formula and that seemed to help her!

heres a few pics!

We have another beautiful daughter! It was a long day but she's here. I got to the hospital at 7:30 this morning and by the time I was checked and monitored it was around 8:30 when I was admitted. I was nervous this time, really, really nervous.

There was a lot of things to worry about this time around, I knew what I was doing going into delivery and I knew what to expect, that changes the experience. I was worried about Emma and Kailee, and I hated the thought of being away from them for so long. I was worried about how they were behaving and if they were going to get through me not being around for four days, all of this was on my mind as I waited.

As the time passed, one of the doctors who was going to assist with my c-section came to tell me that there was an emergency surgery and that I wouldn't be going in any time soon, I'd be waiting a couple of more hours. It was 9:30 at the time. DH decided to go out to the waiting room and let everyone know. My Dad and his SO decided to take the girls home for a while, and they willingly went. Now I was just worried that they wouldn't get back in time.

In the meantime I tried to rest but that was not an easy thing to do. Finally it was my turn. I actually walked into the emergency room. That was so strange, it was so cold in there, but after being in recovery for so long with the heat blasting it felt so good. Now it was the dreaded epidural time, again like the previous two times it took long and they had a hard time getting the catheter in place, they had to stick me twice.

Once it was in place it happened quickly, I felt like I couldn't breathe and started to freak out, I was obsessed with throwing up and made sure that I had my cocktail (a mixture of three different anti-nausea medications) which Dr. promised me and told me that she suffers during surgery the same way and this is the only combination that worked for her.

I still couldn't breathe and was really freaking out. Dr. told me she understood and was talking me through it, I just wanted Lou. They allowed him to come in and he was rubbing my forehead, which was good cause it gave me something to concentrate on, as well as trying to regulate my breathing by concentrating on the air in my nose. I kept saying that I wanted to be done and that I wanted to go to sleep. I think I started to dose off a little cause I was finally calm, then all of a sudden there was relief, massive relief, and our daughter was born! I couldn't wait to see her, and hear her cry, which Dr. Sklar told me to give it a minute cause the cord was wrapped around her neck and around her body between her legs. Finally she cried, she sounded like a squawky bird!

Lou got up to see her and said she was beautiful and looked a lot like Emma. He cut the cord and then came back to sit with me again. He got to hold her and bring her to me so I could see her and kiss her. I was so relieved, Dr. then asked me if I was having any more babies and I said no, close me and be done! She laughed and told her associate that, that was not the case and that she knows me so well, and I had asked her just that week if I could have more children!

Needless to say, she knows me very well. She told Lou that he could go with Gabrielle and tell our family that she was born, but once he left he couldn't come back in, and he hesitated. I told him it was okay, and Dr. told him to go also, that she was going to take care of me, and that it was going to be a while to close, because I had a lot of scar tissue and she planned on cleaning it up so that when I have another baby she won't have to suffer! She was taking her time to make her job easier the next time around! I love her!

No one knew that we finally picked a name which hadn't happened until right before I went into surgery. I didn't want Lou to tell anyone because I wanted to do it in person with Gabrielle, and I wanted my sister to be first to hear it and hold her, but it didn't work out that way. Gabrielle wasn't ready to be seen for a while, so I just shared her name. Her full name is Gabrielle Michelle, using my sister's name as her middle name and her being the godmother.

She weighed 8 pounds, 9 ounces, and was 20.5 inches long, she was born at 12:54 pm.

We are in love! I kept her with me in the hospital all day and night despite attempts from the nurses to take her to the nursery. She is nursing like a champ, and did loose some weight (down to 7 pounds 11 ounces).

The girls are in love also. Emma REFUSED to leave the hospital before seeing her and me, she was a trooper and stayed at the hospital until after 8:00. I was so loopy from my medication and was throwing up off and on for several hours but nothing as bad as my previous surgeries.

On Sunday, I was up and in a chair before lunch, by the evening my catheter was removed and after two assisted trips to the bathroom, I was on my own. By Monday morning I was walking around the halls. I was determined to have a better recovery this time. I have my older girls to go home to!

I was released on Tuesday, which was Lou's bday, we went to my sister's house for dinner and cake, and then Lou, Emma & I came home. I am so happy to say that despite some family hiccups, our plans were well executed and as requested, Emma missed no school! She is such a trooper, and is going with the flow like she always does. She is an incredible help, and as Dr. Sklar said in surgery, to Gabrielle, you are going to have three mommy's! She indeed does!
