Today wasnt THAT much better for me today... I had my big breakfast then held off til dinner- had grilled cheese and tomato soup- ugh, not the WORST thing I could have, wheat bread light margarine and light cheese, but...still...Im scared to add it up... Tomorrow is another day, and im NOT GOING TO LATE NIGHT SNACK AT ALL TONIGHT!! sooo really...If I could eat "normal" and not binge or eat trash at night, i'd probably be okay.
Ummm Deirdre- story of my life..except you work harder/more then me. I cut back to 3-4 days a week..and I go to school full time, but I've noticed lately I've been paying bills and "playing/spending" with a LOT of my savings, I used to only use my "income" to pay for things, bills, whatever i wanted.. but now I'vebeen tapping into savings AND what's in savings is my student loans....So even though it's not technically a 'credit card' i have to pay it back!
I used to be SOO AGAINST any type of loan/credit card because i just had this belief if you cant pay for it- don't buy it. but then when I switched jobs and made less money last year, I decided to just get loans "incase"...I HATE having to stress/worry about money, and Kevin makes pretty good money and pays "his" bills, but i dont want to have to ask for money, or worry about a bill or anything like that, so I got them "just incase" but now have been working a little less..... and spending a lottttle more :)
Tax return is coming, so that should help a lot, even though Kevin just wants to pay off our cars..usually we split the money and both put it in savings and it usually just sits around for a little cushion... last year we bought a heat pump..the joys of getting older right?!?!
Anyhoo, I know I'm going to be waaay more frugal this time (this meaning hopefully I get pregnant sometime in the near future) with brody I went soooo overboard.. now I could shop at ross, ebay, amazon, craigslist... not buy 3029320 matching stupid animal themed room decor items..haha... oh and I have 6 huge tupperwares of Brodys clothes and all of his stuff left... plus a closet full of stuff with tags on that I'vebeen building up because..lets face it.. I'm a shopping for baby clothes addict....
Anyhoo, rant over, I'm going to go drink some crystal light and tel myself not to eat :):):)
Deirdre and Cait - I hear ya girls! We make a really good combined income and have minimal housing costs right now since we're still living at my folks (they live over the garage and we live in the house), I've been here since my divorce (when I had to sell my dream home :byebye2:) so we should be pretty comfy...but it seems like we're still living paycheck to paycheck! Savings get depleted almost as fast as we save! And now DH wants to drop to one income and buy a house up North?? I know he'll get a raise but it won't cover my lost income!!!
I'm working on tightening up the budget and trying to get the CCs paid off and put a nice chunk in savings before I'd have to leave my job, incase i can't find anything new for a while. He says he's been good up there so far and not spent a lot, but he did buy new tires for my car last weekend.... ugh....
Cait - don't be afraid of entering your food into myfitnesspal! I take a lunch to work so I'm trying to pre-enter that and work from there. I find it makes a difference and I've got the app for my phone to so I can enter stuff as I eat it (most of the time lol) and that has helped since it makes me think about what I;ve got left for dinner/snacks in the evening. And you know it's best to eat a big breakfast anyway - so eat up! I love a big breakkie when I can get it! On the weekends DH makes me really yummy breakfasts :)
Marie - squash sounds good, DH LOVES squash so I might have to try that :) Congrats on sticking to your dinner plan! and I'm all for a chocolate reward - I once read that people who eat a small amount of dark chocolate in the morning ate fewer calories during the day!
SArah - Wow, that's awesome that you do that, I ca totally see why that would make you want another tho...
Tasha - where are our weekend details!! I want to know how it was!!!
Kim - Thanks for the website, going to check it out today. Oh and enjoy your exercise...
AFM - I broke down and weighed myself again today even when I swore I wouldn't until Monday... down 2 MORE LBS - BUT- I'm not officially calling it till after the weekend since I'm going to be eating out with DH...
Cyrstal - my problem is that I'm supposed to be the sensible one in the relationship. DH has no concept of the term "savings". He spends his money on man toys and it drives me crazy. I'm going to have to sit down with him tonight and have a talk. There is no other way around it. But I feel like his solution to the problem will be not to have another baby instead of selling one of his THREE motorcycles or stop buying accesories for them.
I often think about leaving my job or at least transferring to a department near where I live. But, I'd either loose my pension entirely, or take a bit hit in the end.
Cait- I've been really lucky in the clothes dept for Erin. My SIL has twin girls and just sends all the goodies to me. Plus I get some from my cousin and my friend. I rarely need to buy anything for her, but I still do. A girl can't live on hand me downs alone;)
With m y credit cards, I almost always pay the entire balance off every month. I HATE HATE HATE paying the extra percentage if it's not paid off. Wasted money in my opinion. BUT, I did realize this morning that I don't HAVE pay off my CC entirely this month. So if I can get DH to take over a bill or two, AND relax on frivilous spending (which I don't really do anyway?) hopefully next month I can catch up. I was thinking I would have to ask my parents for money and I REALLY don't want to do that.
And I usually don't mind tapping into my saving once in a while. That's why it's there, right? But I've pretty much committed every last penny of my life savings into this addition on the house. So I really can't do it anymore. And especially every month.
Sarah - what a great experience it must be to be a part of such joyful moments of people's life. I'm pretty much on the oppsite side of the spectrum with my job. But it pays the bills....Oh, wait. No it doesn't :O)
Hope the rest of you ladies have a great day today. I'm off tomorrow and the weekends are tough for me to get on and chat much so I'll probably just be popping in. I'm taking Erin to get portraits tomorrow (1st time). I'm not really a fan of the whole studio portrait, but my mom is begging me for one and I got a Groupon from JC Penny. Tomorrow is my mom's b'day so I'm hoping I can surprise her tomorrow night :O)
Let's hope it's not a complete waste of time......and money
Deirdre, I hear ya about the Man toys, DH only has one motorcycle but until recently (when I really had to put my foot down), he had 3 vehicles - puls the motorcycle!!! - (2 were crap but he likes fixing them) AND he wanted to buy a 4 cyl race car...AND a snowmobile... AND a NEW truck to replace his older one... the list goes on....
I was once the one who could balance the budget and run an entire household on basically what I make alone (back when I was married the first time) but DH and I have separate accounts so it's harder to control everything in and out now.
Omg, you ladies. Your hubbies could never survive in my household. I run the show 100%. I can't stand to have the checking account below a certain amount and FORGET touching the savings. When I met my hubby he was barely afloat on the titanic. So there is NO WAY I would let him handle the money ever. Have any of you ever listened to/read Dave Ramsey? I love him so much and just started his budgeting envelope system. Crunching numbers is my favorite past time..... It's funny b/c when I worked I made double what my hubby made but didn't save as much as we do now. Where did all that money go? Do'h!
Cait, I added you on fitnesspal. :)
Crystal, yeah for 2 lbs!!!!! You can keep it up. Just remember, one cheat day a week is ok. Just start the next day back on track :)
AFM, I made my 'treat' recipe for later. Oh my does it smell tasty. I made oatmeal for breakfast but looks like it's going to be lunch. My baby wants to snuggle. Thank goodness I had a few cheese chunks so I don't lose my point. Annnnnnd my scale was good this morning. Yessss!
I super duper sucked last night and had a late night pity-party binge of hershey kisses and chips and salsa. SIGH. It's so weird how the "week"that I was pregnant I ate sooo good and lost 5lbs, and literally the day after I found out that I wasnt.... just wanted to eat eat eat!! I was up 2 lbs this morning. sigh. Todays a new day though!! Got my chicken marinating and my rice cooker out to make brown rice tonight.
Deidre- I might have to read that Dave Ramsey! Kevin is the FIRST guy that I've ever dated who is good with his money. Granted, we do spend a lot of money that could be saved, but I NEVER have to worry about any bills being unpaid or anything. Kevins family...uh..sucks?? and we loan them a lot of money, His older sister, his parents, his twin brother... I feel like were a bank... a crappy no interest never get money back bank for his family! BUTTTT we have seperate accounts, and I keep saying we reallyyy need to make abudget- because I know we could be saving a looottt more..I really want a grocery/bill/allowance budget... We kind of just buy what we want, when we want... eat what we want, when we want... blah blah...
When I was preg with DS we lived apart because I was in school and lived in another town, and I did soooo good saving money for Brody... even with bills/commute I saved up a 5k cushion for when he was born, so basically I didnt even have to work the first year he was born because I just lived off of the savings (plus we lived in an apartment and hardly had bills!)
SOOO i really need to sit down, make a budget, join our accounts... and stick to it!!!
Marie- great point about waste or waist. I will start trying to think of that when I am having just a “bite” of something. I do really good about not eating the kids leftovers because I am a germ-phobe, but I will sometimes eat my husband’s pizza crust, etc. Thank you for the squash recipe. I am definitely going to be giving that a try when I get home this weekend. My darn hubby tried to throw it away the other day because it has been sitting on the counter. I was no, do you see mold on it? Nope, then leave it alone. LOL. Did you do your pilates?? I hope all your “exercise” last week pays off too. I hope mine does too… I am okay with the psychic being wrong if it means my BFP comes sooner. Marie- that is right, you are the other Dave Ramsey fan. Love that guy!
Crystal- bigs hugs for your terrible day. I don’t think anyone would blame you for eating comfort foods after the day you had. At least you followed your comfort foods up with exercise. WOOHOO for weighing and being down 2 pounds. Super proud of you. I hope you enjoy your special weekend with your DH.
Deirdre- Your dinner actually sounds yummy. What was wrong with the squash? I say kudos for handling your finances. I check mine out every morning, my DH thinks I am a bit obsessed but I just like being prepared in case something comes up. On Xmas when my laptop for school died and I had to buy a new one the very next morning to complete my classes, he wasn’t complaining about my finance obsessions then. I know you are stressed about your finances right now, and I do understand. Hell, DH is military and I work full-time and there are still times that we struggle. I try to enforce cutting out extras and putting all money into bills, but it doesn’t always work. It has helped though since I took over complete control f our finances. DH gets a weekly allowance and cannot use his bank or credit card (normally) without telling me. I hope your daughter’s pictures come out well.
Cait- I hear you on the late night snacking… here is how I cope: I love making popcorn at night. I feel like I get lots of bites of food with not lots of calories. A little bit of I can’t believe it’s not butter spray and I am happy. MMmMM…. Your dinner tonight sounds delicious!!
AFM- I read in an article on Yahoo yesterday that putting lemon slices in your water burns an extra 100 calories per day if you are drinking 8 glasses of water. I am planning on buying some lemons when I go grocery shopping this weekend.
Other than that… I have done AMAZING today sticking to my food plan. I told myself that nothing extra will cross my lips today. This is because I was supposed to be going out for a celebration dinner tonight but my peeps canceled because it looks like it is going to rain. Blah. I even dressed up. So instead, I will eat something healthy and stick to my plan. I will also promise that I am going to get in 45 minutes on the elliptical.
The area I am struggling is with exercise. I just have no motivation. I mean, I want to be skinny but I just want it to happen. LOL. Help me girls, how are you motivating yourself?
And because I am a little crazy... I just signed up for my masters program. Waiting to hear if I will be accepted or not. Oh my....
All my recipes came from http://www.3fatchicks.com/diet-recipes/ I cook from there a lot.
Cheese and Refried Bean Casserole (this is a pretty generous serving size, it really fills me up).
3/4 cup low-fat cottage cheese
3/4 cup fat-free cottage cheese
3/4 cup canned corn
3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon chili powder
1 can (4 oz) diced green chilies, drained
2 cups medium-heat salsa
8 corn tortillas
1 can (16 oz) fat-free refried beans
1/4 cup low-fat cheddar cheese
In a medium bowl, mix cottage cheeses, corn, garlic powder, onion powder, chili powder, and diced chilies and set aside. On the bottom of a 9-inch x 9-inch nonstick baking pan, spread 1 cup salsa. Place 4 tortillas evenly over the salsa. Place the beans evenly over the tortillas. Place 4 tortillas evenly over the beans. Spread the cheese mixture evenly over the tortillas. Over the cheese mixture, spread the last cup of salsa. Sprinkle the low-fat cheddar cheese evenly over the top. Cover the pan with foil and bake in oven 40 minutes at 350*F. Remove cover and let rest 5 to 10 minutes before slicing.
