don't really qualify...

I was wondering if I somewhat qualify to be here as I am TTC #3. Does that count as a big family? I am trying to see if 3 carseats/boosters would fit in the backseat of my Kia Soul. Don't know if any of you had one of those or something similar?

I am also worried about the reactions of our family when we tell them we are pg again. They know we don't have alot of $ but I don't care about $ and going on vacation etc... I figure people are family forever and who cares if I have 2 kids and can go on vacation or if i have 3 and can enjoy them but don't have the $ to do as much. I'd rather have the kids Smile Does anyone feel like they can't do as much cuz they have more then 2 kids?

Anyway.. I think it's nice that all of you have large families cuz that's what life is all about... it's not about how many "things" we can collect Smile

Welcome! Good luck TTC. You are certainly welcome to join us. A lot of people consider 3 a large family, and you are facing some of the problems that we face, such as how to fit 3 carseats in a row. I can't say about the Kia, but when we had 3, we fit 3 carseats across an Acura Legend. There was actually more width in the back seat than there was in the back seat of our Ford minivan.

thank you that makes me feel better! I think it will be the same with whatever I have unless I use the 3rd row of something (which i don't have) but then it would take up the space in the back for groceries so I wouldn't want to do that anyway Smile

I think the biggest thing that will be an issue is that we will have the older kids in boosters since they are 4 and 6 now and they are in them now so it's harder to get to the seatbelts on the side of the boosters. i guess we shall just wait and see Smile

Welcome! Car seating is a challenge....GL sorting that out.

Worry not about what family and friends think or say.....I think some of the outspoken are overly critical bc they followed their heads and not their hearts. We know we'll never regret adding a child to our family.....

Best of luck TTC!

Car seats are tough but we could fit 2 boosters and a convertible seat in the back of my DH's Honda Accord....I don't know how that compares to a Kia though.
I agree with not caring what family/friends think. All of ours thought, and probably still think, we are crazy having 4 but I love it and I wouldn't change it for the world. To be honest I'd love more but I wouldn't tell them that, not that it matters anyways since dh already had a vasectomy.
I started posting here when I had 3 and I thought we were done Biggrin in lots of places 3 is big. I think you'll really enjoy having 3, I was so stressed with my 1st two babies but with #3 and #4 I'm just enjoying them! Good luck TTC!

I fit 3 carseats in my ford explorer--but I did have to buy a new infant seat because the one we had was too wide--so I think it depends on the narrowness of the seats you are using a lot of the time. Though we did upgrade to a car with a 3rd row and it was much easier for the kids to buckle to boosters when they didn't have a carseat right next to them. I put them on the outsides and the carseat i the middle, and if they needed it, I could help them buckle--a bigger pain but they fit.

Oh, and Good luck ttc! I had a few people think I was nuts going for #4 (and whenever I talk about #5 they just KNOW I'm nuts LOL). But who cares--I love my kids!

I fit 3 carseats in our Grand Am (I had my niece a lot). It was a tight fit, but it did work. Smile I agree with Audra, I'll never regret adding a child to my family, but down the road, I may regret not having had one more. Wink

And yes... I went to Disney Land once as a kid, and sure, it was great memories, but you know my best memories are just playing with my siblings (and sometimes some tricks and pranks on each other too lol). Smile

Welcome! And don't feel weird about what people say if you choose to have more than 2 kids. We are even weirder because we have 2 kids from me, 2 from my DH and 1 together. People made all kinds of crazy comments when we had our last!

We dont' do "vacations" per se but we do "staycations" where we maximize our local activites that we normally wouldn't do during the rest of the year. There are all kinds of ways to do a family "vacation".

I was never one to think "hmm, I want a large family" but sometimes things just happen for a reason. I know we have extra challenges being a blended and large family but those challenges make us stronger and are worthwhile.

And people who say "you're crazy", well, I guess they just don't get it. Oh well, not my problem. I just look at them and smile.

So welcome - GL TTC and I hope you have whatever size family you want!!!

I think the key to fitting the seats across the back is to have an infant seat with a narrow base. I had a cosco scenera that worked pretty well, and they're really inexpensive and will last rear-facing for a long time. You do run into a problem when all 3 are front-facing, but by the time you're ready for that, maybe you will be getting a new car. If I had only 3 kids, btw, and wasn't planning on more, I'd probably get a full-size sedan rather than a minivan or SUV.

How's kids??

Hey there lady,
We just bought 2 new "Sunshine Kids 65" seats for my 2 older boys and our new baby will sit in between them in an infant seat in our VW Jetta. It is super small in the back seat but it works, at least for now. We will have to have a bigger vehicle by the time the new baby is 6 months old because it they wont fit once baby is in a different seat. The sunshine kids ones are really skinny though and comfy for my boys, they go up to 65 pounds. GL TTC #3!

We have Sunshine Radians for the 2 littles and the baby will have one, too. I absolutely love those seats! Of course now we are just flat out out of seats in our van so we will be buying a new car befor ebabe gets here...

Anyway, welcome!! I, too, agree that anything more than the norm of 2 kids is considered "large" for the most part. My attitude about it is "haters gonna hate"...lol Smile But seriously, you are always going to get negative looks and comments from people who just don't get it. Anytime I see that wide eyed look of terror in peoples eyes when I tell them we are expecting #6, I quickly say "I know it is not for everyone, but it works for us!" Smile

Thanks so much everyone! Yes it's true not everyone is going to "get' it but i need to do what i feel is right for us. My hubby and I both feel like this is our family (just in our house here the 4 of us right now) and everyone else including our parents are on the outside as far as decisions go so why should we let their opinions influence our decision making process? I know I would regret it if I didn't try to add one more.

It's weird, I really feel like God is calling me to do this. I thought i was done after 2. I always wanted 3 but after Logan and having post partum I was sure I didn't want to go through that again. But all of a sudden this year the feeling of wanting another kept creaping up on me untill it was screaming at me to get out! I told my husband and he thought I was nuts. we had even been talking about him getting snipped  Thank God I didn't have him go through with that. I think I always knew i wasn't ready for that yet. But I just reciently decided to go off zoloft so we could TTC and I was prepared to taper off etc. like the doctor told me to do. Well I forgot to take it 2 nights in a row and felt fine so I waited to see if I would need it. I just quit cold turkey and was fine! That was a month ago and I feel great. Stuff like that just makes me wonder if there isn't a higher being helping me to make this decision. It's strange who knows.

I also would love to be more relaxed with this one. I was so nervous with my 1st i feel like i didn't enjoy her infanthood. Then with my son I had post partum and I missed so much because I was wishing his babyhood away because I couldn't handle it. I didn't even get to nurse him very long. I'm excited to do better this time and be more relaxed and enjoy my last baby. My husband already said this is it since i'm 36 now LOL
