a friend of mine....

IRL posted an article and video on fb about a women with 15 kids in Florida who does nothing to care for herself and wants to know "who will pay for her and her kids" because she doesnt feel like family services are doing enough. It is a very sad case...and for sure its the kids who suffer. They had no place to live, no food, no clothes, nothing!! THIS story is why people are so negative about large families. This story is why people assume all large families receive assistance...which we do NOT...and why people think there is NO way parents with large families are capable of caring for their kids. Its so frusterating...this women is the example of why large families have a bad name!!!

Grr-- that is annoying.

Though statistically the vast majority of kids on welfare come from families with only 1 or 2 kids-- most don't even have 3 kids.....

I saw a news clip about this woman and she's a whack job-- but it kind of just makes me mad at the new outlets.....they feed the image of welfare moms relying on the system to support their breeding.....and it just isn't the case 99% of the time.

When I was expecting...I think it was #6 I was in the hospital getting my cerlcage....I always have cerclages...and I dont get sedation...so Im awake...totally awake! I went into recovery to wait for my legs to come back and the nurses at the nurses station were talking about "how in the world she could afford so many kids" one of the nurses replied, "public assistance...thats how!!" I could hear EVERY word they said...and I was livid!! We have NEVER used assistance!! God willing...we never will! How dare people judge like that! totally annoying! THat woman in Florida with the 15 kids is a total mess. I feel very sorry for her kids!

OMG-- how did you not say something. I would have been so ticked!!! How rude!

People ask us all.of.the.time. how we afford "so many kids"-- and I just tell them that we work hard and that kids don't need everything people think that they need. Our kids don't want for anything, but they also don't have everything. Frankly, even if we had all the money in the world, I don't think I'd want to raise them differently. I want them to value a dollar, kwim? I know too many spoiled kidlets these days...

I would have to say thank heaven there is a support system for someone like her, who is most likely mentally ill. If there weren't her children would probably be going hungry or worse. The vast majority of people receiving public assistance only receive it temporarily when they come onto hard times, and I'm thankful that there is a safety net like that to keep those children from having to beg in the streets for food or even live on the streets.

But I do agree that it's total manipulation of the media to support a particular political viewpoint. It's a shame that the "news" can't be even a little neutral, or better yet, stick to the stories that are actually "news" instead of trying to sensationalize something that is just a sad, pathetic story.

I totally, 100% agree. I think I would have said something too. Some people just don't think.

That lady is crazy. I saw some news stories on her. For a while she was living with the kids in a motel room. And she went to all the tv stations complaining that the gov't wasn't doing enough for her and the kids. She was even thrown in jail for contempt because at one of her hearings she would not tell the judge if she was pregnant. Anyways, I don't think most large families are like her at all. She's clearly ill and probably not even fit to care for those kids.

OMG I would have totally gone of on that wench! I know that our family has been strugling tremendously the past couple of years, as DH's and my pay has been cut in half in the past few years. Thank God we still have jobs, but when you have the same amount of bills and half of the income coming in, well needless to say times are tough. And to top it all off we had another baby this past November. But regardless, I have never once considered using government assistance, and for that reason! That's terrible that large families get such a bad wrap. Even though we might not have as much as the next family, I do everything I can to take care of my family, as it's not the government's job to do that!
