The house is (basically) sold!!!

(we adjusted the price a little based on the inspection, but just formalities of paper signing now!

So we a currently "of no fixed address" LOL!

Next week we go on a house hunting trip - our first holiday on an air plane with all of us together (without DSS).

It will be fun! YIPPEE!!!

I hope this will be a sort of holiday, warmer than Alberta too. The older ones may be excited to look at houses and have a better idea about the move. Take lots of photos and enjoy yourselves! Smile

OH shoot! I had a whole response written and I just lost it... Phooey!

DH's dad passed away so our house hunting trip has been postponed. He was very unwell so this is actually a relief. The funeral will be this weekend so we will leave on Monday (probably) instead. We were supposed to leave today.

In the meantime, Ivy's good friend's family, who she stays with after nursery school two days a week has come down with the chicken pox! She was there the day before the older brother came out with spots, which is supposed to be the most contagious period, so we are waiting to see if she gets it. If she does it will be this week (joy). How will we go find a house if we can't go? We are running out of time!

Also, DH's saga regarding his ex-wife's outstanding child support, which has lasted for 7 years, has come to an end yesterday!!! YIPPEE!!! She was court ordered to pay back several thousand dollars, and it will be registered with the courts to pay back a certain amount every month. In effect, this decreases the amount of child support he has to pay until SS turns 18. YIPPEE!!! After all the years that SS has been told by his mom that we are stealing money from her, and us playing the "we believe your mother is mistaken" and changing the subject line, finally there is a court order showing that SHE actually owed US money!!! LOL!!! About time!

So here's to crossing our fingers that we don't get the pox!

I certainly hope you can make the trip Monday!
I also hope for a solid, enforceable parenting plan.

Oh my, you've been busy!

I'm so sorry to hear about your FILs passing. That must be hard for DH. Sad

But I'm so glad to hear about the house selling and all the exciting things happening for you!

First of all, CONGRATULATIONS Sara-Jean! I hope this pregnancy is not too difficult on you and that all goes smoothly!!

I heard from Sarahsunshine today. They are house hunting with the 3 young ones in BC where temperatures are warmer than in Alberta by far! They liked two houses in particular and are busy thinking about them and will perhaps visit them a second time tomorrow and have them inspected. Meanwhile, the kids are needing some attention and they hope to take them to a beach for play.

Good to hear that the courts proved biomom wrong- YESSS! So, is Skyler going to live with her primarily and visit with you guys? I am also thrilled for you living in a warmer climate Smile
So which Sarah is pregnant? Sarah-Jean? Or both? Congrats either way!!
I promise to post an update later.

They found a beautiful home and put in an offer. Sarahsunshine woke up at 3am and panicked, feeling that they had made an unwise choice! And so they changed their minds. They are now working on a different option, a place with more land but which will need some work. They are happy and excited. Let's hope this one works out! They should find out pretty soon.

First - Congrats Sarah-Jean on #8!!! That is exciting!

Second - ASHA!!! You came out of the woodwork! Good to see you my friend! You need to update (and get a family photo update)!

Third - no I am not pregnant! LOL!

Fourth - Yes, we changed our mind on the house, and really I think it is better. the other house was so beautiful that the kids would wreck it. In another 15 years it would be perfect, but for right now... not so much.

And hey, in 15 years, maybe the house we just bought will be just as beautiful!

We will be moving to an island called Quadra Island that is just east of Vancouver island. Check out Google maps and you will find it. It has 3000 year-round residents, and more over the summer. We had the house inspected and it has many small things (dry wall, base boards, etc... That need doing, and a couple larger things (vent in attic, fan in bathrooms, dry out the basement), but overall nothing that is a large concern. It has LOTS of indoor space and 5 good-sized bedrooms! Even better, it's on 7.4 acres, with a play house, barn, and lots of BIG trees!

Here is a picture of the play house that Ivy and Leo (and Forrest) just adore! I can't wait to clean it out for them!

And here is a photo of the barn. It is very solid and hasn't had animals in it for years (doesn't smell at all).

And here is a photo of the house:

I can't wait to get out there and make it home!

There are fruit trees (plum and pear for sure), and 2 large hazelnut trees. And now I need some chickens and a veggie garden!!!

Oh.. I keep on having to remind myself that we need to finish with conditions...

This is perfect and the whole property looks enchanted! I am really excited for you! You will be able to have gardens, animals, everything you need! That play house is so cool- the kids are going to spend many magical hours there. I know that there will be work to get the house fixed up a little, but there always be projects and you guys can handle that. It sounds like a beautiful change is about to happen!

Sarah just phoned that they have agreed on the price and will move ahead on the new house now. DSIL has been posting photos and seems quite excited! Smile The first of May is the date...and we grandparents will visit a week or so later and (I hope) be of some help.

Fantastic!!! I am sure you will be of help - just keeping the kids happy and entertained is a huge help, so the parents can do their work.
They found a really cool place with so much character! The property around is also a bonus!

Actually, May 2 is the day, so I hope... (unlikely) that stuff can be delivered that day. Unfortunately, I bet it will be the following week (May 5), so we will get to camp at the new house for a weekend before we get our stuff. I hope I can get some finality on that soon! May 3 is Ivy's birthday!

Ask Ivy if she could wait until we get there to party together! She might have a new friend already by then too.

Oh the fun of camping in a new house- you think it will be so much fun, but sore body in the morning proves you so wrong. maybe get a big blow up mattress?
Also, we have often moved a birthday celebration to a more convenient date- she will not mind too much as long as you do something to make her feel special on the actual day.

There will be so many fun things going on that I don't think the day will matter much. I am hoping to put together a celebration this weekend so that she can say goodbye to her friends/early birthday. I am not big on parties, but I think that 5yo is the first big one that they can really understand, and want to!

Maybe I can find some new friends on the island for playing with!

And how do people get everything done when they sell/buy a house. I wouldn't have a clue except that I keep getting told "you need to get a lawyer to...", "you need to have this form...", etc... I am so glad that costs are mostly covered because I would have had no way of budgeting for all these costs that keep popping up!

The family is now on the Island, waiting a week to move in to their new place. Their drive worked out well and the kids enjoyed the trip too, This morning they slept in and then went to the beach and waded in the water.

We will be visiting soon!
